The infamous £40000001 bid not only proved how stupid Arsenal were in negotiations at the time, Liverpool weren't entertaining any negotiations with Arsenal and Arsenal missed out on Higuain at the same period to Napoli. The bid that chased the course of Liverpool and Arsenal for a decade. Had Liverpool accepted the bid, no question Liverpool would be dreaming of playing Champions League football and ending their 3 decade wait of winning the Premier League title. Arsenal on that same contrast would win their first Premier League title for 10 years and Leicester City would be 2nd that time with Arsenal winning another Premier League title with Alexis Sanchez backing up Suarez. Instead Liverpool missed out on the Premier League title in 2014, however Klopp arrived in 2015 and we all know what happened since and Arsenal went deep into mediocrity and allowed Leicester to do the unthinkable by winning the Premier League title and went without Champions League football for six years with more mediocre players like Mustafi, Sanogo, Lichtsteiner, Sokratis, MKH and Pepe stinking up Arsenal. The infamous bid was a stuff of legends in football. It was unforgettable for Liverpool to harden their resolve to keep Suarez and further cement Arsenal as the status of mediocrity and disillusionment for years at the time. If they still looked that bad perhaps Klopp would never come. Arsenal could have picked up the 13-14, 14-15. 15-16 titles and who know that momentum could have carried them on for more in what really became the Pep-Klopp era.
@@kevinjenkins6657 Correct. Liverpool would indeed invest in the Suarez a year earlier than expected but since they did invest poorly during the Adam, Borini, Downing, Allen era, Klopp wouldn't even consider joining Liverpool and even if he did, Liverpool would be far more deep in mediocrity than Arsenal were. Essentially, it’s the old phrase “the rich get richer” but applied to football. To win the treble you need to have a truly great team. It’s far easier today to build a great team (if you’re at the top of the pyramid, of course) than it was in yesteryear, especially before the 90s when the EU foreigner limit was in place and when the hyper-commercialization of the game hadn’t yet occurred. Today top teams can buy many more top class and world class players, have essentially no limit on importing foreign talent, and can build larger squads with superior bench players owing to their deeper finances affording such players. They can sign the excellent players that routinely win matches and tournaments, as well as the good players that can come off the bench and seal a scrappy but necessary win in the league or the cup as the starters rest/recover. Add to this the vastly superior nutrition/fitness/health science, technology, and resources available and your ability to fight on all 3 fronts for 10 months becomes greater. Finally, it’s worth mentioning that since UEFA made it easier to qualify for the Champions League in the mid-90s, 3 of the 6 European treble winners won editions of the tournament in which they would not have previously qualified as they hadn’t won their league the season before, so United 1998-99, Bayern 2012-13, and Barcelona 2014-15’s trebles would not have happened

(Alternative idea: what Evertons religation would mean to everton and english football)
Bidding £1 more and thinking that's going to buy someone's loyalty is like the firms who give people a few pence over the minimum wage to make it up to a 'round figure' - it's pretty much a sign of "we're going to make a really obvious 'look we're doing you a favour' when really, if we could pay you less, we would"
Good one Alfie. Thank you. Can we please have a video about Maltese Football ⚽
Look at those chompers, no wonder he kept doing it.
The greatest season perfomance on a Liverpool N°7 Jersey in the history of the Premier League. I know Liddel perfomance was more important tho but I just wish somebody's elder have seen him would tell me just how good was Nienhuwenhuys during his prime I'm sure there has to be somebody alive today whose grandfather saw him wear that jersey.
The shaw cut was so good lol
5:42 Love this! 😂😂
Errare humanum est, Alfie. You sure ain't no clown for it. 😉
ayyyy, HITC early gang, Alfie the 🐐
Still shocked Arsenal didn't sue Liverpool then
Then perhaps there were things that Arsenal, like every big football club, does not want a court looking at.
I'm sorry but the name Dick Law is absolutely hilarious :D :D :D
That transfer proved to be more than I imagined
What is wrong with the grammar in his Tweet at 1:15? I don’t see anything glaring.
it should be 'the Emirates'
The issue is they tried to do a barcelona on Liverpool. Like barcelona used to do in past with their dirty player tapping thing and unsettling the player that would force the club into letting him go in cheap. They thought they are so big that they could carry it out on Liverpool 😂😂
Best German players in the premier league of all time. (Day 541)
I will not give up until the video is made or Alfie himself tells me to stop. Everyone else telling me that will be ignored.
If you don't believe my number, just go back to the previous videos. I'm at the bottom most of the time, but I'm there.
Kenny Daglish had to comeback from retirement when we down grade to Roy Hodgson ... Brendan Rodgers won't win us anything dats 100%. Loads of things to undo b4 getting Klopp.
Yep, Klopp really stabilizes Liverpool. Don't forget the chaos before FSG takes over and almost bankrupt back then. That's why, when Liverpool had bad season last year and did mess transfer, I have faith everything will be alright 😆😆😅
Day (lost count +14): The despicable despotic president of Bangladesh Football Federation
As an Arsenal fan, this video is painful to watch. What could have been.
TBF whoever decided on a release clause of only 40 mil was asking for it. Given players like Højlund costing 72 mil and Nkunku costing 52 mil, 40 mil for a world class striker like Suarez is too low.
Can't compare it to Høylund and Nkunku. £40 million back then is equivalent to something like £90 million now, it was a huge amount for a player.
40mil release clause in 2014 is much more than 100mil nowaday. Neymar to PSG is 200mil 5 years ago. That transfer damaged market price.
Do you think Hojlund and Nkunku worth their price?
Suarez, greatest striker of all time in my eyes. He could do it all. Nazario 2nd for me.
Man, if Suarez and coutinho both stayed at Liverpool they probably would've won so many trophies. Especially with klopp.
Suarez's transfer was successful, but Coutinho's was disastrous to his career and for Barcelona. What a story
No.
I wonder if Arsenal's +1 trick would work in FIFA or Football Manager. 😄
In Fifa 23 you just click pay the release clause and start negotiations with the player because that's how release clauses work. Not sure about Football Manager.
I’m ngl as an Arsenal fan I can’t believe they thought the bid wouldn’t piss liverpool off🤣
I am still furious at 2 games suspension for literally biting. But not completely neutral here ;)
8:48 time stamped.... Same thing as signing Houjland 😂
We would basically live in a different world if this transfer went though!
They would have 3 champions leagues and 4 Premier leagues
Its crazy that Henry admitted to breaching the contract with Suarez, knowingly and then lying about it to the press ... and he didn't get the crap sued out of him?
I can't stand Suarez, but no ones boss should be able to so brazenly violate their contract like that.
Well, no one know the precise amount Suarez's release clause tho 😅
You know what is direspectful? Liverpool dismiss the contractual buyout clause and openly mocked Arsenal's bid.
The craziest ever bid because at that time,my beloved Arsenal did this just think that they were like a beggar which ultimately embarrased Arsenal's board of directors, good friends!!!Sorry to Liverpool but shameful to Arsenal, good friends!!!🙏
Im a liverpool fan i remember the time of the bid arsnal were a laughing stock after it 1 extra pound still to this day it seems so stupid to me

It would be great if you put your videos out as podcasts.
Suarez being cheaper than caroll shows that English players get far to much pressure n oruvmce tag Maguire caroll n any other English half decent kid 😊
Can you please make a video on the ongoing controversy on Luis Rubiales forcibly kissing Spanish midfielder Jenni Hermoso during the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup Trophy Presentation and backlash/anger that Rubiales’s subsequent actions have caused?
Hello, Alfie. Can you make a video about what is going on with Malaysian football right now? With the senior national team are prepared for playing at Asian Cup in January next year, Johor Darul Takzim(JDT), one of Malaysia biggest football club are aim to achieve 9 time Malaysian Super League in row in this season. JDT also unbeaten in all the competition in this season and Malaysian under 17s squad are crash out in group stage on AFC Under-17 Asian Cup.
Can you do a video about players that failed medical tests as I don’t know anyone who has an it would be very interesting
One of the funniest videos on HITC yet💀💀💀💀football isn't real
Video suggestion: ranking every Champions league season since (whatever year you deem fit), based on shocks, comebacks, quality of final, quality of football, iconic memorable moments.
For example, last years CL will probably be quite far down the list but the 21/22 season would be much higher cos of Real Madrid’s run where they were the underdog at some stage in every single round from Ro16
With this, some of the “best” CL seasons might include 2018/19 where you had the 2 semi finals, 05/06, 08/09, 11/12 etc
27:12 if anyone other adult in any other field of work physically bit their coworkers--not just once but thrice, no less--they'd be fired, blacklisted from the industry and shamed into exile. They'd also probably be institutionalised.
The transfer hunt that kicked off 442oons.
I'm so glad Arsenal didn't bid £50M or higher for Suarez :)
Deadline day is tomorrow..
24:26 😂😂😂😂😂
Thanks for that, I never really understood the extra pound and I never really understood why it was a bid. Why pay more than a release clause? So basically, it was a matter of Liverpool's lack of understand of Tort. Strange that no legal action was taken but Wenger has always been a gent. I was actually rather pleased that he didn't join Arsenal, there's something fundamentally unnerving about a racist with Pica disorder.
Should have just bidded 41 million
@@ohgin12345 Why?
@@runswithcows at least from a psychology point of view, the Liverpool owners would not have stopped the transfer
@@ohgin12345 They broke the contract, the release clause was met, what difference does any figure over the release amount make? The Liverpool owners disregarded the release clause, that's pretty much the whole point of the video.
@@runswithcows You see. If arsenal bided 41 mill instead of an insulting 40 mill + 1. The Liverpool owner would most probably have accepted it as he knows he got caught with his pants down and since Arsenal was generous enough to offer him a million dollars more, at least, he would just accept this offer. But since Arsenal only offer 1 dollar more, of course as the Liverpool owner, I will make sure that the deal does not go past as it is going to be embarrassing for me. Sometimes you need a bit of common sense. 41 mill is still a good price for suarez.
The bid was embarrassing. I'm quite glad we never signed the bitey racist.
Suarez was so good.
How did you get 30 mins out of this? 😂
If you know the lowest selling price of a car you want at an auction is, let say, $15,000, would you bid $15000 or $17000?
John Henry’s wife.... just what is attraction??? (💰💰💰💰💰)
I think that Liverpool US guy only sees sport through the US lense where they own the player and can do with them what they want (i.e. trade anywhere without consent, etc.) - aka modern slavery. He also did not seem to be able to distinguish between a release clause and a player just wanting to move.
Also, Suarez and his agent should know if the contract had any release clause. If Liverpool simply ignored it that is literally breach of contract and they could have gone to court and they surely would have if it existed. So I doubt that it actually existed.
Either way, still hoping for that Austrian Wunderteam video 😇✌.
All I know is, Henry has the cutest wife in world football.
Best players to never participate in a world cup?
😂A REAL GEM OF A TWEET😅😅
There's only one Ukrainian player playing in the Russian premier league, sounds like your kind of thing
The moral? Don't haggle with the very cheap and canny.
what team does this guy support
Hull city
No MSN no Football
Suarez was an arse, but one of the greatest strikers of the era.
Laziest bid of all time
Why? What's so strange about offering to pay 40 million for a player valued at 40 million at the time?
The cheeky £1 was the lazy part

Ahhh…. I see you have chosen to speak about the dark times…. Oh dear
The failure to ban this player for continuously biting is beyond shame
I don't care how good he was
Plus, you know, the racism
I remember when Defoe bit Mascherano and no one batted an eye lid. A lot of players have done worse and are still playing.
@Ice-tc5vn I would agree 👍, however, its unacceptable behaviour
So Wenger didn't want to sign Higuain because of his 40 Million+ fee? Clearly that guy was out of touch with Modern Football back then as well.
No wonder RVP saw the writing on the wall...
