Filming this video was intense. Even though I pretended to look relaxed as if I was enjoying myself, we actually had to shoot it in 20 intense minutes, as JR East had kindly booked out the entire cabin for us and the other passengers, who got to experience the first class cabin. I was literally running up and down the cabin trying to get the shots and do it justice and all in all it turned out well, but a fun and relaxing shoot it certainly wasn't. Still, incredible seats.
This is One my Favorite Videos in Abroad in Japan. This will be a good Journey Across Japan from Kagoshima to Sapporo by Shinkansen. (When the Hokkaido Shinkansen Extension is Finished)
The real story behind this proves how well of a filmmaker you are! If you never said you only had 20 mins, or the amount of difficulties you encountered, I would have never believed it!
Brilliant concept of a channel, allowing us to deep dive into our favorite parts and seeing more into past videos/unseen footage, love it mate. Cheers!
When I finally get to Japan (when the borders re-open, and just as importantly, I save up the money) I want to travel by train, rather than flying, to see more of the countryside, and I am debating if I should budget for one leg of the journey to be done in Gran Class, just for the novelty of the experience.
I wouldn't bother. I rode rock bottom class on the shinkansen when I was there about 15 years ago, and it was still very roomy, comfortable seating and you're spending most of your trip staring out the window anyway at all the amazing sights.
@Adoniya Mirahy It already cost $201.00 one-way to get on that train in the cheapest section. However I just looked it up, it actually $335-$340US for the cost of a Gran Class ticket, even round trip still doesn't cost $750.
I do feel like the green car is the best of both worlds. Definitely want to try granclass at least once when I get to visit again. *cough* open up Japan, please *cough*
This Abroad in Japan Clips of What Japan's Most Expensive Bullet Train Seat Is Like via Abroad in Japan Clips features what looks to be an exciting trip. Seeing the people featured in the video luxuriating in the experience and enjoying their food can definitely elicit enticement to eventually try out the experience for oneself.
I know it looks cool , although I have never experience Grand Class as a personal opinion I'm more fond of being able to ride the night train, the one who goes from Ueno to Izumo or to Takamatsu...
While I haven't ridden GranClass on the Shinkansen, the seats are very similar to JAL's domestic First Class product, which I have experienced. Would be nice to get around to it. When you say $750, where are you getting that from? Because I just looked up on Hyperdia, and it's 39,200 yen for Tokyo to Shin-Hakodate-Hokuto. Unless you're talking about two tickets.
The same person that stays at the $12,000 hotel room will use the $750 train to "experience" how peasants move around when there is no private jet or helicopter. If they move to Japan, probably their children will go to school in premium shinkansen too. 🍸
Chris: "I often take the Green class coz I need a lot of space" Me thinking, "oh yeah coz you're fat" Chris: "When I'm editing on the train" Me: "oh shit sorry"
This was useful to me. I am a bit of train snob and I do travel first class when I can. I might have thought to do the same when I am finally able travel to Japan. Now I know I won't. Don't get me wrong, the carriage was very nice, but definitely not 750$ nice. It's not just Japan though. First class in Swiss trains too is far too expensive for what it offers. It's really just about status, not comfort.
Way too decadent and I wouldn't say that interesting, but there is always a part of me which wonders what it will be like since ultimately its something I will never do.
IIRC Chris said once that everyone else in the cabin are JR East employees invited to be extras for the video. The one blurred out guy is the PR guy I think

The struggle with filming is real. Making things look enjoyable while suffering horribly.

Subtitle is broken?
I’m enjoying the clips, but I think you’ll get more views if you turn the clips into 1 minute shorts
Wow over $700 for a 20 minute ride, grand class indeed

We need Ryotaro back for some more videos :D
That ‘lady in red’ was absolutely stunning
One of the incredible experience that most people won't get chance to try, it's so fun seeing iit through video!
In America you can ride in a sh*t propeller plane for $200 - 400... so $700 for a luxury experience doesn't seem that far off.
Haha - "GranClass". Because nothing is better than what your granny does!
Spot the uncomfortable salaryman who didn't want to be filmed appearing later on hiding in a different seat
I can’t believe I missed this episode! I’ll have to go look for it 😮
Love the new channel! Can't wait for more.
I haven’t even watched this video yet, but I already love it. Have never clicked faster.
I see ryotaro and I click no question ask.. I know is gonna be a good one.

Getting there by train from outside Japan will be an experience!
@@denimadept It would be a feat of enggineering to really marvel at.

I thought this was a Ryotaro's Japan video.
"It comes for free (if you pay $750) - how luxurious is that?"
$750 is insane already but, in Japan? That seems quite expensive!

@@TheBaldr that makes more sense..
Chris you the man!
Haven't watched this video before, this clip is actually made me want to watch the full video...
Legendary video
Gran class sounds like a class my grandmother would teach.
Very nice! I'd love to see some behind the scenes clips,
that guy in the suit was so sick of you lmao... you can see him regreting his decision to step foot on that train
Ryoutaro is like james May's sidekick in his Japan series
"but the memory will last a lifetime"
its on the internet
it will last multiple lifetimes now
So lucky ah both of u
I do feel like the green car is the best of both worlds. Definitely want to try granclass at least once when I get to visit again. *cough* open up Japan, please *cough*
Coughing like that is why the country was closed in the first place.😆
…it’s a little bit ‘snooty’ *Rolo [AKA Riotoro]!😄🙃
**I nicknamed Riotoro ‘Rolo’!

Im not following his social media but any idea why he got off at Utsunomiya? Maybe to film something in Nikko?
Shinkansen E5 Granclass' :)

When filming in public spaces like this, do you address everyone there and ask permission to film beforehand or do you go person to person?
I was looking here if anyone had asked this but when thinking it the answer "yes" would be only locigal.
We miss rissotoro
that 2 girls are cuuuuuute but the other one left side (right side of them ) should not eat anymore HAHAHAHAHAAAHAHAHA

well when people discussing ticket it's usually round trip price
how luxury is getting a small bento box for paying 750$ to get on a train

Enjoy the cost of an entire holiday on a single train ride… it is different air mind

best thing a "free" bento after paying a fortune for it XD
"The air is different" is the Japanese way of saying "the atmosphere is different". Since the atmosphere is made of air 🤣
Meh thats just natsuki smoking thousands of cigars for the experience.
@@Founderschannel123 That might be it 🤣
Aw, the Academy Award level sad face isn't here.
How much more expensive is it to spell the name of the class with the d?
Im wondering why the Guy in the back change seats 3 times and settled on his first seat instead 🤣🤔
🙏
I'm amazed at how many people are keen to pay 750 just for a seat. I mean, sure enjoy yourself but wow... There's a few passengers
Except it's nowhere near $750. It's only 39,320 yen, or just over $340.
@@dangeorge809 Your right, I just looked it up, I was thinking maybe round trip, but that still doesn't even add to $750.

All passangers.. women.. the heck? Do guys just not like to spoil themselves, or do women in Japan get better money now? :D
I think this was a media promo tour, as in invited and complimentary
He was invited by the train company
Wdym...chris and ryotaro are there...but yes women in japan receive better pay nowadays
