There was an author (last name Wilson I think) who said this story was a critique on the materialism & progressivism of the New England Yankees. Sleepy Hollow was happy with itself, and in blows a Connecticut Yankee who only saw the abundance as something he could use to make money, so he could go west and make more. Greed. Read the book “The Yankee Problem”. Good book.
Good lecture. Gave me lots of insights and context! Combines lots of good themes of the early 1800s. Story could never been written in our non-agrarian times.
