I gotta say man, that you are one of the best tutorial youtuber's i've heard in a while. Between your Minecraft tutorials and this - you make learning sandbox style games much easier to handle. Kudos!
So glad you decided to play EQ Next Landmark Paul! I'm a huge EQ fan and can't wait for the release of the actual EQ Next game. I hope you make a series of this as it's very exciting while it's still in alpha and we can watch you go all the way through to release of Landmark like you did with Minecraft and hopefully see you play EQ Next as well!
Really liked it paul. Everquest has come a long way it seems since it first came out. Nice to see them using a bit of the minecraft model. Keep the videos coming.
great a landmark tutorial from you just what i need. when first got minecraft i was so lost and your tutorials saved me heres hoping this video does the same
Hey Mr Soares, just paid a visit to your plot. That's some prime real estate you have there.. Especially the Sun Soaked valley to your SouthWest.. Make a balcony on the Cosy Cottage, so you can overlook the valley.. I'll be sure to follow you both here and ingame. Thank you for showing me this awesome game: Your introductory video won me over to get the Trailblazer pack *smiles* Be seeing you !!
Thanks for the video. I love building games like this and wasn't sure I was going to buy closed beta access when it's going to be F2P but I'm gonna at least drop $20. I didn't even finish the video and you had me sold!
You should show everyone the grappling hook! This is nothing like Minecraft - Minecraft uses "shaped crafting" where you put in a shape of something to make. EQ Next Landmark uses "collection crafting" where you just need the right amount of resources to craft stuff. They haven't added the cave system yet so everything is above ground at the moment. They're going to add mobs into Landmark "eventually", as well as making it to where you can die in this game. Oh, and this is Alpha for Landmark, if you want Alpha access, you need to pay, otherwise you can just wait for its release to play for free. I also picked up the Trailblazer Founder's pack of this as well - I'm on the "Courage" server if you ever want to drop in. I don't have much of anything other than my basic stone forge and sawmill. I'm planning on building a "ruined fortress" type of building.
Best not to compare this one to anything you've seen before. Everquest increased the MMO genre's size by 10 times, Everquest 2's clone WoW increased the MMO genre again by a further 10 times. I wouldn't be surprised to see another major shift after this one.
Question: if I build an underground lair, by putting my claim mostly underground, can I still put trees on top of it? I mean, what happens if the trees are big enough that the top of them are outside my claim area?
Good question and this is a fairly hot topic. Currently, your claim height is limited but you can raise/lower it to grab more underground/sky to your desire. The process is apparently still being tweaked.
See, I knew you could lower it or raise it, but what happens if a piece (not a square, but one of the larger "pre-built" pieces, like a tree) sticks outside the box? Oh well, alpha is alpha I suppose!
paulsoaresjr Great video, Paul! I was trying to talk myself into not getting this, but, as usual, your informative videos have been leaning towards getting :D Brings up a lot of questions (not necessarily answered by you, but these came to mind): If claim size has a vertical (up and down) limit, can someone 'dig out' around and below your claim and leave your cool looking buildings on a square of floating ground? Can trees be 'built' (Like, if you wanted a courtyard with trees and shrubs can plants be placed?) Is the landscape going to look like some horrible strip mining project after a few weeks? Do resources regrow for future players? And more :P
Ghelmaron These questions and alot of others are answered in the livestreams which are now going to be weekly, but to answer these specific questions. First remember SOE is one of the first mmo developers, they know what they are doing. So to the first question, yes and no. There is a claim buffer that keeps people from claiming land too close to yours, however that land can be mined ect, but it heals back over time as does all the unclaimed land. so yes they could spend the time to dig out your claim but it will heal after awhile, however the mineral/gem veins heal back randomly. and yes trees can be built, they are in with the props, but they are not harvest-able like the "wild" trees.
TheRubberDuck77 Thank you for the information. I have since bought the game and played for several (many?) hours. I see that it would be difficult for someone to dig around another player's claim in an attempt to grief; the digging can be laborious. No horrible strip mining as digging out ore deposits only result in small holes that fill back in over time. And resources do regrow. In fact resources are rather plentiful, a player just needs to go out and gather them.
You still get work in your kitchen done? Man, that must be a hell of a kitchen ;) The video is great as always. Keep up your fantastic entertaining work. :)
Hey Paul! Love your videos! I let you convince me to play MC after watching survive and thrive for days on end. And then I let you convince me to play Rust. How did you get so much power! :D Soo of course I'm excited to see you build something in this one! I am just curious to see if this is worth the $60/$100 investment! Thanks for all the great vids, keep em coming!
I am really interested in this.. ty for the vid :) I have a question, if anyone knows I would be interested to hear; are the "nodes" for resources personalised? or public? i.e. if you chop down a tree, is that tree then not available for another person coming along? I'm just thinking long term, is this a fight for resources? or is it all personalised, what you can see on your screen? (a bit like the GW2 way of mining/logging etc)
Im a little confused. I have seen some videos of Landmark and Next but if it is a persistent world and if you can change it (like digging) , why isnt it there any other holes from other people that have digged somewhere?
Looks pretty cool. but Paul, I see you digging giant holes in the ground. What's to stop a troll from spending all his day digging a giant pit around someone's claim?
This is assuming you have spent money on a Founder's Pack, which I have not. I am in the Closed Beta and cannot even find how to camp out! After playing EverQuest for so long, I am finding the controls hard to fathom; why are they so different? Also, I have got lost already, after finding some ore and some heartwood for myself, and cannot find my way back to the "spires". :D
Does anything transfer over to Everquest Next from Landmark? As in items and armour etc? The game that I want and care more for out of the two is Next and if putting down some money for Landmark nets me things I can take into Next then I'll do it. Thanks in advance.
To be honest the bonuses are very minor. Also, you can upgrade later, and reduce the price of the higher packs by what you've spent already. So you get the Settler pack for $19.99, and later you decide you want to upgrade then the Explorer pack would cost $40.00 instead of $59.99. Same with the Trailblazer etc.
They are separate. Landmark will be free to play, you only have to spend $100 if you want all the goodies. There is also a $50, and $20 option, each with less in game freebies. When you consider that you can make and sell buildings, parts, props etc. for real money in the store, then that takes a bit off the price shock.
Alpha stages are the longest of the stages (it can varity to up to a year)... betas are the ones that usually last like 1-2 months before closing and near its full release. You don't really have to worry about the wipe so early.....
Hey Paul, I have been meaning to tell you about this new game, it's called "Wildstar". I think that you would like it once it comes out. It's like WOW, but with a lot of extra cool stuff(Crafting included). Please look into it and if you like it maybe make a video out of it. The game really needs as much publicity as it can get and I think you can help with that. Thank you for reading!!! Sincerely, Frozenwater1000
*gasp* This game (EQ2 that is,) is my life! Mainly because thats how me and my mom play together over long distances. She lives on the Northern part of the country and I live on the south. I still waiting for EQN to come out, but this will do for a while.
It's actually pretty intensive. I have an Intel i5-2500k with a Geforce 465, and I have to reduce the resolution and put everything on medium if I want an FPS of 40-50. With max settings and max resolution I get about 5-9 FPS. Definitely going to be upgrading my video card.
i have a sapphire r9 270, and i think its bad optimization or a bug or wathever, because when i use msi afterburner, it just use ~50% of the graphics card, and on requirements, it does the recommended so i think when the game release, we will get more fps...
I played EverQuest (the original), So as I see it. This is for the people to buy into and develop it. Make towns, stores and communities. Is this right? When can the average Jane play and will it cost when it's public?
Hope this helps! Let me know if you want to see more of Landmark!
Why did they can Everquest next?
Great video Paul....... I was on the fence with this one, but I think you've prompted me to get it now.
Paul, I think you deserve more views, you always manage to entertain us all
Watching Paul's videos is like curling with a good book or watching Mr. Rogers... it's like comfort food for the thoughtful gamer.
I gotta say man, that you are one of the best tutorial youtuber's i've heard in a while. Between your Minecraft tutorials and this - you make learning sandbox style games much easier to handle. Kudos!

Glad to have a sneak peek at this, please carry on with it!
Really liked it paul. Everquest has come a long way it seems since it first came out. Nice to see them using a bit of the minecraft model. Keep the videos coming.
great a landmark tutorial from you just what i need. when first got minecraft i was so lost and your tutorials saved me heres hoping this video does the same
Please do more of these when the game is released. I enjoyed your Minecraft Survive and Thrive series very much!
Paul, I was going to recommend this game on the next vid I saw, and look at what it was! I love this channel, I hope you make vids for a long time!

I got this game because of your first look, been debating for awhile, now I got it! :)
You should show everyone the grappling hook!

It looks nothing like the Everquest i used to know

Man, that must be a hell of a kitchen ;)
The video is great as always. Keep up your fantastic entertaining work. :)
YES ... pls paul ,make these like you did with minecraft . I really enjoyed your minecraft lets play . Please do the same with eq lqndmark... TY
I hope you will play it as an series.
PLZ!
Is there a set limit to how big your plot of land is or do you get to pick how much you want?
Keep up the good work PSJ!!!

Un-claimed land regenerate over time.
Good job Paul
It looks very good. Something I will have to try myself. I wish day was 48h long to try all this cool games recently :)
I liked the video Paul. More would be good. Do you get the games free for doing the videos? Or get paid?
PAUL PLAY MORE PUNCHWOOD ISLAND WITH YOUR FAMILY PLEASE
Looks pretty cool. but Paul, I see you digging giant holes in the ground. What's to stop a troll from spending all his day digging a giant pit around someone's claim?
It looks worth every cent.
I'm trying to figure out how your character screen is so smooth and clean? My screen looks like a 1990's game. I don't get it.
interesting, would like to see more please
This is assuming you have spent money on a Founder's Pack, which I have not. I am in the Closed Beta and cannot even find how to camp out! Is landmark going to be around forever or is it just going to be around before EQ Next. And then after EQ next comes out, landmark is gone.
I'm not sure if I should buy the Explorer or trailblazer Pack... I really can't decide, is money worth it for trailblazer?
To be honest the bonuses are very minor. Also, you can upgrade later, and reduce the price of the higher packs by what you've spent already. soo, are landmark and next seperate games or will landmark be included in everquest next? 100$ for a game where you just build stuff seems a bit much.
They are separate. Landmark will be free to play, you only have to spend $100 if you want all the goodies. There is also a $50, and $20 option, each with less in game freebies. Chris Mullins I am pretty sure that Next will be F2P as well, with All Access members getting full access to the game.
Actually I had no idea what Landmark was before watching this video.
I imagine what these worlds will look like after viewing many many griefed servers, I can only imagine lol
Uber Laufer people can grief their own claims -- my minecraft experience using a near ungriefable public server.
if you apply for the beta , about how long does it take to get in?
A while, and don't be fooled like I was my friend. The beta key they send you only lasts 7 days
this game looks verry promising plz do more
Do you know how long it will be before the wipe??
Alpha stages are the longest of the stages (it can varity to up to a year)... betas are the ones that usually last like 1-2 months before closing and near its full release. You don't really have to worry about the wipe so early.....
7 min into the video and I already want the game.

This is really cool!
I have the closed beta and my FPS is horrible and is on average 10 fps. Any possible reasons why? I can play other games fine at 60 fps
I get a Starboard meets Haven and Hearth feel?
This looks like an awesome Minecraft on steroids. :-)
if I pay for the 100 dollar pack do I get to play everquest next? not landmark but the actual everquest next.
was wondering the same here
*gasp*
This game (EQ2 that is,) is my life! Mainly because thats how me and my mom play together over long distances. She lives on the Northern part of the country and I live on the south. I still waiting for EQN to come out, but this will do for a while.
Thanks, Paul. I take it this is still in development?
Whats the difference between EQNL and EQN?
This site explains it: www.eqhammer.com/column/ask-druid-differences-between-everquest-next-and-landmark
Landmark is primarily a crafting/building tool/game. EQ Next is going to be the full-blown MMORPG
paulsoaresjr Pls record more of this! :)
OMG, I want it! I would love yo see more :)
You're right Paul, he does sort of look like Mr. Clean, only his evil counterpart from the Mirror Universe. You know, like Bearded Spock? :)
Moar please, I was properly lost in this game for a while and was about to give it up.
So what kind of video card will you need to play this game on good quality
It's actually pretty intensive. I have an Intel i5-2500k with a Geforce 465, and I have to reduce the resolution and put everything on medium if I want an FPS of 40-50. With max settings and max resolution I get about 5-9 FPS. Definitely going to be upgrading my video card.
Chris Mullins Yea im running mine with a i5-3570k with a sapphire radeon r9 and i can only run on medium. need to crossfire 2 cards
i have a sapphire r9 270, and i think its bad optimization or a bug or wathever, because when i use msi afterburner, it just use ~50% of the graphics card, and on requirements, it does the recommended so i think when the game release, we will get more fps...
What kind of computer do i need to play this? Can a normal laptop play it?
You dream
I played EverQuest (the original), So as I see it. This is for the people to buy into and develop it. Make towns, stores and communities. Is this right?
When can the average Jane play and will it cost when it's public?
Woaah this is really cool. I wish I had a windows computer :(.
#paulsoaresjr Do you kno how long they are going to keep these founders packs for sale :D ?
is the world infinite siza like minecraft?
minecraft is not infinite size, it's only 60 million x 60 million
Joost miner
Unless you are playing on xbox it is infinite
xAngoryx rly
Not right now, there are multiple islands per server which are a few miles each way, but they're only temporary for alpha.
TehDocc I guess youre talking about everquest?
So fun to whatch
I wasn't too interested in this originally, but this piqued my interests a bit more. Between this and Star Citizen I'm going to be SO broke...
What world is he in and island
Does this cost money? Because now eq2 is free unless you buy premium if its free where can I get it?
It's going to be free when it launches but right now you need to pay.
is this on steam?
Do you know if the game will ever be free to play?
yes
Love it!!!
how do i make a flat surface?
I think you use the build tool and build blocks to make a surface. Or you can use the smooth tool or delete tool.
Does this mean you are going to play Everquest Next Paul?
I played a lot of the original Everquest 15 years ago! But I'm not certain my schedule is any good for MMO'ing anymore...
paulsoaresjr
I hear that lol. The last mmo I played I lost 20 pounds...from forgetting to eat. :P
More if you enjoy the game!
Why are you missing mindcrack S14?
im gonna try to get into terraria/starbound . I obviously have fallen behind in the builders world :(
need more landmark
Is this supposed to be like free realms
Nekosushi Otakus free realms was the game of my childhood
can you have more than 1 claim?
Will there be PvP?
Yeah there will likely be pvp later on.
Can you not mine everything with the founders pick? Well that's dissapointing..
Hey Paul
Didnt this turn into Wildstar?
Continue this as like how to survive and thrive
love it
more please
Hey paul, what is your favorite Game EVER!
Oh geez, i could never pick just one! :P But I suppose if I was stranded on an island and could have only ONE game it would be.... Civilization :)
paulsoaresjr The irony!
So, this is kinda like Starbound?
paul u should try league of legends on your other channel u might like it
