      Same thing here, Ubuntu is perfectly fine. Ran into an installation problem with 21.10 but that was a bug due to my hardware configuration. In order to get 21.10, had to install 20.04 then upgrade to 21.10. 21.04 seemed to have the same installer bug. My only problem is the shitty Nvidia drivers causing janky/stuttering UI issues. Just switched to Mate Desktop, boom problem gone. USB Creation issues are user-error, but some machines are also really damn picky I've noticed as well.

    • @CataclysmZA
      @CataclysmZA 3 роки тому +2

      No, the reason is because of how MSI implements secure boot. Some USB installer creators will handle this correctly like Rufus and Unetbootin, whereas Etcher shits the bed most of the time. The workaround is to disable secure boot and enable legacy bios booting, but then you lose some advanced UEFI functionality and support for things like pass-through for virtual machines.

You will need to use AMD or Intel graphics for with Wayland. I have not encountered the issues you raised with 21.04, but due to some tools I use (such as simple screen recorder) not yet supporting wayland, etc... I choose to stick with Xorg, although I have tested Wayland (on AMD graphics) and I see none of the graphical issues you reported.

    Sandisk USB sticks are the only one working without problems when making bootable media. Avoid Kingston, they may boot but it takes 5-10 minutes and then the install takes 3-4 hours or fail before that.

    I use the Cinnamon Desktop, which doesn't use Wayland anyway as far as I know. I had similar issues when I tried to test Ubuntu 21.04. But right now, I'm using the Ubuntu Cinnamon Remix built on 21.04. It's excellent, but it comes with gnome data mining and tracking software pre-installed. Those, and numerous other packages had to go. I've used Wayland with Gnome on the same hardware that I usually run Xorg with Cinnamon on. I know it's supposed to be better and faster than Xorg, but I haven't seen any difference. This is with an AMD/ATI Radeon card. I got away from NVIDIA several years ago. To be clear, I'm not a fan of Ubuntu. Never have been. I prefer Debian-based distros running on the Bullseye and Sid repos. Ubuntu Cinnamon Remix caught my attention because it runs on a generic kernel 5.11, which is newer than the latest Debian kernel on Sid. May be a Liquorix kernel.

      Lol you are a funny guy ubuntu is alo debian based distro try kde and wayland is fast but not on faulty hardware the thing is that unix systems even mac os in the core unix is an operating system that is designed zo work on servers that is cofigurated in nodes of skalable computers wich work as a unit thatswhy it seems slow the kernel of linux is monolithic and not modular like windows where hardware and network has ther own sections Linux is designed like clien server principles so comunixate each package you are aditionaly installing need somehow to send and receive information thatswhy on some distros it is adviced to compile everything from sourxe each time a new hardware comes to the kernel

      If you have enterprise grade hardware the lack of drivers it a common thing under linux also do not install drivers from the web use the drivers from the repository use synaptic or muon or any package manager and search for the desired driver the driver installer does not work allways and if you chose to install manually it is neccesary to blacklist the kernel drivers for that particular hardware

    Crooked hands and a poor English accent are the crucial reasons for your problems. I have never had any of these problems that you just mentioned for many years. But to be honest, I have to add that 21.04 is actually an unstable release and not recommended for usage as a primary operating system. Just use Long Term Support releases and have some fun. Or use unstable releases for testing and give up judging it as crap.

    Ubuntu 21.04 is like always almost perfect and it has one major improvement, it supports now a 3 level storage hierarchy!
    1. I had absolutely no problem installing Ubuntu 21.04 using the Ubuntu StartUp Disk Utility.
    2. I had no problems with Wayland on my AMD desktop and not on my Intel iGPU laptop. So you probably did run into open source video driver issues with your specific NVIDIA hardware. For me Wayland is perfectly usable and it is faster than Xorg on both AMD 3 2200G desktop and Intel i5-2520M laptop.
    3. You overlooked one major change. ZFS-on-Linux 0.8.4 is replaced by OpenZFS 2.0.2, which is a joint development between Linux and FreeBSD. It has a number of improvements and the major improvements are encryption and a persistent SSD cache. So Ubuntu now supports a three level storage hierarchy, that I use as follows on my 16GB desktop:
    - max 4 GB memory cache (L1ARC) containing ~7.1 GB of lz4 compressed records;
    - 120 GB SSD cache (L2ARC) containing ~198 GB of lz4 compressed records;
    - one datapool with 2 x 500 GB striped and lz4 compressed HDD partitions and one datapool with one single 500 GB lz4 compressed HDD partition.
    My virtual machines boot from L2ARC and run from L1ARC. It like running e.g a Fedora 34 VM from RAM disk.
    I'm using Wayland also in Fedora 34 and also there no issues, it is rock solid with Gnome 40.
    You had too many strange problems, maybe you should test your memory and disk.
