I got a question in the exam that was:
If we had listened to the radio, ___________ (type 1 conditional)
I messed up and did type three, however, what would be a suitable answer?

@@Divviiii That's very tricky of your exam/teacher to mix up the conditionals! The most common answer here would be a type 3 conditional, like "If we had listened to the radio, we would have heard the traffic report and could have avoided the congestion from the accident." But it IS possible to mix conditionals if you want to refer to different times. For example, you could say "If we had listened to the radio yesterday, we would know the answer to today's trivia question" (mix of type 3 and 2). But, honestly, I can't think of an example where that type 3 sentence stem would sound natural with a type 1 conditional answer. Please let me know if your teacher tells you what the answer should've been. It's a very unusual case.

Hi there, the first conditional pattern is "if + present, will + base verb." The simple present form of the verb "be" is "is" when the subject is "he." Hope that helps!

If I study hard, I will pass my exam easily. (first conditional)
If I studied hard, I would pass my exam easily. (second conditional)

The pattern is "if + present verb, will + base verb." You can use the "if" clause as the first or second clause. Here are some examples:
- If I study hard, I will get good grades.
- I will get good grades if I study hard.
The verb after "if" takes the simple present form (add -s for third person singular) and the verb in the main clause can take any of the three future forms (will + base verb, be going to + base verb, or be + -ing verb). Hope that helps!
