Something to know about being a CASA is it can come with similar ups and downs as fostering. It requires developing relationships with children without knowing the outcome of those relationships. You have to be able to maintain important boundaries for the child/children's well-being.
For Australians watching Laura’s video, there are lots of organisations in our country too that allow you to volunteer to support foster kids. One organisation in my city is Pyjama Angels. 😇
The Fosters is a TV series about foster care that Is fiction but where they put a lot of effort and research into a realistic portrayal. While it is also entertaining and dramatic (I cried so much while watching it). I believe the writers do have experiences with fostering/adopting themselfs and the whole cast is just one big heartwarming family. So I really recomment!
Hi Laura! Yes true, and it was preachy here and there but I truly fell in love with all of the characters! It was a very formative show for me. Especially the strong family bond that was always there no matter what.
Thank you for this! I've been thinking a lot lately about looking into fostering as a single woman if I'm still not married within the next several years (I know it would be a lot harder without some kind of partner, and ideally I /would/ like to be married, but if things continue the way they have been I don't want to have to wait for a guy to be able to start making a difference), but these would probably be better options for me to start with to begin getting involved. Thank you so much for your channel!
If you have more than one child either fostered or biological how do you introduce them and settle like arguments or disagreements. It would be very interesting to see a video on that
My grandson (F) moved into a foster home when there was already a much older young man (J) fostered in the home. J really helped by talking to F, especially on his first night, and lending (and then giving!) F a soft toy he'd used on his first night. He loaned him a shirt, that he ended gifting too. He talked to him about his own first night, acknowledged F's fears and reassured F that it was a good family to join. A while after J went back to his mother's at 16, the family discussed welcoming a new yp into their family. F was very much involved in this, and asked that it be a boy. When C came, I'm told that F acted in very much the same way as J had for him. The 2 of them have become so very close and consider themselves brothers. Sorry this is so long but I hope our experiences can help someone
How do you handle bullying situations? My daughter and another kiddo who’s being fostered atm, were being bullied by another kid. I messaged bully kids mom to let her know and she came completely unhinged. Everyone says I did the right thing by standing up for my kid, but now I’m anxious about safety in our own neighborhood for everyone. Thoughts?

yes! thanks for adding this in! :)
I really appreciate this. I recently lost one of my closest friends, who was a former foster youth, to suicide. The needs are so real.
I’m so sorry for your loss 💔
I’m so sorry for your heartbreaking loss.❤

A coworker has his first foster youth. Thank you for your wisdom, I feel better able to support this family.
