SERENA WILLIAMS TRIED EXTREMELY HARD TO EQUAL AUSTRALIAN MARGARET COURT 24 G.S. BUT SHE FAILED MISERABLY THRU ANOTHER AUSTRALIAN AJLA TOMJLANOVIC U.S. OPEN 2022 ON SERENAS LAST MATCH.
Novotna and Seles were an entertaining match up. Jana as a decent record against Monica and ave her a.l sorts of trouble. To women who remained in the top ten fr a long time. I loved ‘‘em bot o much. RIP Jana!
these games excite me. See Seles always brave on the field. So talented and seeing her satisfied beating a great rival such as Jana excites me. what you have and what talent of these two girls. and what a beautiful and heartfelt hug and hand squeeze on Jana's back, not only congratulating her on the great game she played, but also giving her condolences on the death of her father. epic and glorious moment of women's tennis. Thank you for what a prodigy you were and jana for being such a talented and respected woman on the circuit, thank you for having existed.
These two played some great matches - such a brilliant clash of styles. So sad when you think of the tragic things they'd both go through in their lives.
I remember this match well-Monica's father had died only a few weeks before and she wore black out of respect. She also wore her dads wedding ring around her neck at times during the tournament. Novotna told her how sorry she was at the net-sadly she is also dead-a very talented serve and volley player. And Monica is without compare
Both were such amazing players! Loved them both. Their handshake at the end was so wonderful. You can definitely see that these two had a great bond. :)

What a great match,Monica was such amazing. And thinking that she missed her father in april 1998 and played so well is incredibile.I love her, such a brave and brilliant. She is allways in my heart.Jana had such passion for this sport, acctually she liked to play against and with Monika in double.Nowdays they play tennis without strategy and heart, only strong beat and that is it
I always got the feeling that these two never really liked each other but the handshake at the net here proves they actually had lot of mutual respect for each other.
After the stabbing, the 1998 French Open was the best she ever moved, looked and played… this was the level I think we all expected after this tournament…
Hard to believe that Jana died at such a young age of 40 of cancer. She detected it when the cancer was at stage 4. Both tennis legends Chris Evert and Martina Navratilova had the same cancer but luckily they detected it at an early stage and survived. They are both now into their 70s and still playing actively on the tour but not winning as routinely as when they were in their heydays. Monica, on the other hand went on to marry a billionaire who is twice her age..
@@samuelmagrath2541 cuz it was the last time she would be slamless and get over all those choking comments …. Monica had a trip to the final with her opponents left but zvereva got the best of her… and would have played novotna in final…
Crazy or not but I think and remember many people hoped and saw her as a hot favourite..not many players had such support from fellows and audience and she was ready..to me it was crazy to see Tauziat in the finals
Actually anyone watching this would think Jana had a great shot at Wimbledon that year. She looked fit, confident and was hitting very well off the ground. Her winning W in 98 was hugely celebrated but not really a huge surprise.
she was up for this match...because she knew that Novotna was one of 15 or 16 players, I think, that DID NOT want Monica's ranking to be protected for a period of time, after she was stabbed and took time to recuperate. I suppose many of those ladies had their own reasons for voting NO, when the WTA pres (Martina Navratilova) proposed it..but that had to leave a bad taste in Monica's mouth. Suffice it to say, Novotna felt the wrath of Monica "The Grim Reaper" Seles. during this match.
Monica Seles was the most offensive high risk tennis player that I have ever seen Man or Woman. She would hit down the line very often even if she was down match point in a G.S final. None of that endless cross court to cross court bullshit that we see with Novak and other ATP players.
her and Agassi, yea....both out of Nick's academy. There was an army of players, some of the names I recall very well, that came from Nick's tutelage. But her and Andre were the first, to sit right on top of that baseline and take balls on the rise, off both sides, like they were hammering nails in a wall. Monica was the more fascinating of the two, because in the beginning, she was this little thing, striking the ball with power that we had never seen before. The most devastating shots of all time, in my opinion, was Andre's two hander down the line and Monica's two hander, down the line. You just didnt see those shots coming..and by the time you took a step to defend against them, they were by you.
@@jeffreykaufmann2867 plus going for angles and target..amazing killer instinct but also well measured agression..and I agree about pathetic nowadays' tennis
That handshake in the end is what sports (and life) is all about! RIP the great Jana Navotna.
Sweet Jana was such a consistent top 10 player for over a decade. I loved her game and such a lovely lady. Met her twice. Rip sweet beautiful Jana!
The great Jana Novotna..
She doesn't need to win 24th GS like Margareth Court did..
Jana is always great in our HEART !!!
100% more respect for no or a than nearly any other female athlete (Monica being my all time fave)

@@michaellane3017 you could tell that when Jana commented Monica's matches too.
Monica also wore the pink hair tie she wore in the 90 final in the final against arantza.
Hard to believe Jana Novotna has passed.
I love them both my respect and admiration to both players.
Love both players and their handshake. ❤️

This is the best Seles moved, looked and played… After the stabbing of course. Such a difference from here and to the ‘98 US Open.
To me Jana Novotna was like the Patrick Rafter of the women's game during the 90's. R.I.P.
And Hicham Arazi and Conchita were kind of alike to me😀
RIP Jana Novotna
Awesome tennis from Monica!
Always a pure joy to watch her play. ❤

They actually we're really good friends and played doubles together
Classic match between two legendary champions and dear friends.
Love Monica forever
I do love Jana, but Monica is simply the best ever
Oh Jana, we loved you.
Seles the greatest
It's crazy how just two months later in Toronto Monica had already gained a lot of kilograms, the attack really destroyed a star.
Oh yeah?
So good!!
Also, it could be the camera but Monica looked very slim here.

Jana was an amazing talent.
