That would mostly be you as far as I know, Ken. The number of multiple dips you talk about and movies you have to have because the steel/slip/package look great. Even movies you say you didn't like that much or not at all barely slows you down if the package catches your eye.
As a collector I follow the rule of thumb that I must actually like the film or find cinematic value in the film to buy it. Many famous movies that everybody likes but I don’t that will never be in my collection. Ex: The Exorcist Which makes my collection personalized to me and saves me money as well
Agree...for me, a movie collection should be representative of the collector's taste and interest. I would never collect to be a 'completionist' or otherwise collect in a manner to represent general taste of others or what 'should' be in a collection.

That one scene totally took me out of the movie as I know the first thing I do if I feel threatened out in the middle of the woods at a house I've never been to before is get high so I can dull my alertness.
I was at Wal-Mart a few days ago and noticed this package. I even said out loud, "That's a nice package for a movie that doesn't deserve anything special."

I got sad when you mentioned Hush because at least in the US, you can’t watch it anymore. Netflix removed it in 2023 and it never got a physical release. I could be wrong but I don’t think you can even buy it digitally either. I agree with you that it is a better home invasion movie than the original Strangers movie.

The disc has been watched once only... The artwork is great looking... The cases are fair to great... over all my lot is worth if I sold individually... Would be worth $10,000 The only reason I'm selling is because I upgraded my DVD to BLU-RAY, then I upgraded my BLU-RAY to 4K, then I upgraded my 4K to Steelbook 4k And My 3-D Is Duplicates... But They are movie's you want to watch over and over again, and have in your collection for sure... Quality over quantity, that's what I say. I only buy films I like, regardless of label and packaging. If I don't like a film it has no value to me. There's always cool stuff I want so why waste money on crap I don't want. Each to their own.
Given the hundreds of ridiculous comments regarding the NOES artwork, the flip side of this video should be; "Why do people refuse to buy cool movies because of 'terrible' packaging?"
Ken. I trim the back portion/side of the J card so that it fits inside the case. That way I can see all special features. You only have to trim a tiny bit off the three sides.
On another note, I also enjoyed Strangers Prey at Night more than the original ( I thought I might be the only one ) mainly because it was nice to see a character ( the 15 year old girl ) have more common sense than her adult parents or older brother and take care of business the way it should be when being attacked by masked murderers.
I've definitely done this but they've all been on clearance. "3 from hell" don't like it but still have the steel book on the shelf. Damn you $5 bin!!!!!!
I don't think the strangers is terrible but it doesn't do anything new which I expected the first movie to go that way. Anything new and interesting will be happening in the next two movies. They filmed all three at the same time ,but are doing reshoots for the next one due to feedback they got so they should be out soon hopefully
I bought the Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny steelbook, which isn't even that good looking, simply because I had the steelbooks for the other four Indy films and I wanted to complete the set. Disney got this collector. There have also been films that I liked, but I was kind of on the fence about owning. But the steelbook was cool and that tipped the scales in favor of me buying. Young Guns and Sleepy Hollow come to mind.
I'm new to the movie collector channels. A few months ago I started watching Daniel's The Cobweb Channel and subscribed. Of course I began getting other like channels and that's how I found yours. After watching a few videos I subscribed to your channel. Part of the reason I like your and Daniel's channels is because I like you guys and like the way you both present your content. I love, love, love listening to other people's opinions on movies - even when they disagree with me. I think it's important to get different points of view. And I absolutely agree with you that if you haven't seen a movie and it's one that seems interesting to you then no matter what anyone else says about it you should see it anyway and judge for yourself. There's been several times when I saw a movie that's gotten generally average to bad reviews and I liked it. Bottom line is it is subjective.
It’s definitely just you Ken I’d never buy a movie that’s shitty just because of cool packaging, if you stopped buying crap and double dipping all the time you would actually have more time to watch movies you already own. Most of the videos I’ve watched of yours is you talking about how you haven’t watched this particular movie,I’m always shocked by some off the ones you haven’t seen already. I do see you as more of a collector than someone who actually enjoys and loves movies.

@@nuancedgamer3609 you just need to watch a couple of his videos to know he’s just in it for collecting sake, for example 3 months ago he did a video talking about the hitcher he said it was ok and not what he was expecting. That it was his first time watching it even tho he already owned it on Blu-ray digibook. So he already owned the movie and never watched it and then payed for a deluxe edition for him to watch it and say it’s ok. 2 weeks ago he uploads a video talking about the second sight 4K and now all of a sudden the film is amazing, he’s completely gone back on what he and I bet he will pick up the 4k as well their is loads of times, he’s mentioned not watching a film despite owning it.

I've stopped doing my collection videos because I can't tell you how many times I've heard that I must be a trust fund baby to have the collection I have. I've been collecting since early 2000's, I love collecting cool editions, and I've worked my butt off at my full-time job for over 30 years to have the money for the hobby. I'm really tired of the judgement and gatekeeping so I collect what I like and share a lot less of it. Enjoy your movie. I grabbed it too. 😂😂
@@MovieChatter01 that's something I learned to do as well. My collection isn't as big like most but I tend to just share less and enjoy what I like and buy what I want. There's a lot of people in the community who have a hive like mind and think you should buy what they deemed is good and if you get anything else then they will belittle you. Mind you they probably have some movies in their collection that isn't liked by many people but yet it's their preference. It's just a internet thing for people to feel like they are better than you simply because you like something that they don't
You’re great Stephanie and have always been one of the most knowledgeable resources for movies and physical media. I get it for sure, but just know there were way more people that appreciated those videos than were judging you for sure.
People with UA-cam channels have extra money to spend on things with super chats, patreon and just the money they make from UA-cam so you can rent all those movies you can buy all those movies you get so many movies sent to you the average person Works full-time and has none of those extra perks
I thought the 1st movie with Liv Tyler was decent and the 2nd one not so good. I prefer suspense over straight up slasher which the 2nd movie end up being, including a near superhuman killer akin to Jason/Myers. The 1st was just normal people in masks terrorizing and doing awful things.
I get why You Tubers will buy anything regardless of whether they like it or not, they need content, but anyone else who buys movies solely for cool packaging or any other reason than simply liking the movie isn’t a fan of movies, they’re a fan of collecting shit and how cool that shit looks on a shelf. The second someone says “I hated that movie, but I needed it for the collection” I walk away. They’re the modern day equivalent of the kid in school who wore the shirt of the band they didn’t listen to just to fit into a community.

The only time I think it’s truly shitty is with everything being a limited edition these days, seeing people who truly love a movie miss out because maybe they had to wait until payday, but it’s sold out and I know for a fact a good percentage of those purchases were bought up by people who have no intent whatsoever to watch it and just want to have it look pretty on the shelf or even worse, show it off on social media and then sell it off later at twice the price. It’s actually kind of pathetic what physical media collecting has come to. It was so much more satisfying before the internet.

Hi Ken. You go ahead and buy whatever you feel like. Ignore the critics! I’ve sometimes blind bought movies simply because I like the look of the artwork and extras. I would agree that some poor movies are not always worthy of the chunky box set special edition releases but I say each to their own!
I think a healthier way to look at film is to be able to differentiate between objective quality and one's own subjective view on it. Simply put, it's ok to LIKE a poorly made movie (terribly written, badly shot or edited, flawed effects, etc) if there's just something about it you latch onto. Though I have to say, while there are plenty of bad films in my collection, I don't usually go out looking to buy movies I don't personally like, and I certainly would never go out to buy a movie I dislike just for the packaging alone. There are exceptions, of course. Sometimes a movie I do like is part of a set with one or more movies I don't, and the one I want is harder to track down separately. And sometimes even a movie I strongly dislike can get the ol' gears turning in my head and get me thinking about what I might do differently if I'd had any creative influence over it.
As a collector it really depends on the film itself, I try to buy movies that I like instead of just having nice packaging. Most are blind buys movies with nice packaging like Blue Sunshine from Synapse Films which I ended up enjoying. In the end if the movie sucks I may just end up trading or selling it even though it has beautiful packaging.
Appreciate your thoughts on it. I will check it out sometime once price goes down. As for buying special packaging, the movie has to be good enough for me to want to own.
i didn’t mind the film, amazing artwork too. i don’t think there’s anything wrong with celebrating cool artwork even if the film isn’t a masterpiece. to each a zone but imo we’re collectors 🤷♂️
I'm definitely not grabbing this one, but I love that packaging. I'm used to having to take all my cases out of flaps like that since I use those hard plastic protectors. I hope they continue to do it since it's basically the best of both worlds. I imagine Retro Protection will eventually have a protector that'll fit them.
I mainly buy stuff I know I’ll watch. But sometimes I buy nostalgic stuff (like 80’s/90’s cartoons) that I probably won’t rewatch again, but I want to have it on the shelf. But otherwise I would never buy a movie I’m not interested in just because it has fancy packaging or because it’s a part of a ”blue line” or whatever.

I personally don't go by others' opinions because everyone likes something different. If I go by other opinions, then I'm going to go into the movie with negative views before ever seeing the film. I myself also like to watch movies knowing that it's somebody's ideas from their mind coming to life. It's a lot like living through their imagination, so if the movie is a masterpiece like intersteller or a b-rated movie like trailer park shark they are both someone's creation. With this line of thinking makes movies that much better for me personally.
I haven't bought very many movies I knew I disliked when I bought them. There are way too many movies I really like to waste money on releases I hate, especially if they're in some bulky collectors set that isn't shelf friendly. Maybe as a gag gift for someone. My sister and I go back and forth on giving each other movies we think they'll hate, like I gave her the recent Cats movie. She gave me The Sound of Music [but the jokes on her, because I didn't want to buy that movie, but now I have the Blu-ray on my shelf, which is good enough for me].
It depends I have the entire MCU on steelbook not all hits but I'm in TOO DEEP to not have 1 on steel cause it's an "ok" movie. I have Halloween 2018 and KILLS on steelbook BUT I don't even own Halloween Ends cause I thought it sucked. So for me it just depends if it's really bad I might not even buy it for the collection regardless of packaging. I'm not gonna knock anyone for what they spend money on.
I think the side of the card package could have been a slide out, or magnetic flapper on the top could have happened, oh and the lead actress was in the series Riverdale. And she was also great in the 2020 movie Sightless.
Often the quality of the movie/ tv series is the least important factor when I make purchase decisions. I have a fetish for certain production companies or when there is a great transfer and interesting extras of a mediocre movie.
I'd like a decent 4K release of Vacancy, which I watched "blind" as a projectionist after I built it and couldn't get any ushers/cashiers who wanted to watch it. I thought it was a Rom-Com/Comedy because it had Luke Wilson. I was pleasantly surprised, even though it wasn't perfect by any means.
Movies are very subjective!! If I listen to the opinions and reviews of the movies I own before deciding to buy . I would have miss out on a lot of good times. But I still love talking about and here’s everyone’s views. I love physical Media!!
I think Lionsgate could've made The Strangers: Chapter 1 steelbook slightly cooler by making that peephole clear plastic, ideally in a way that would distort the image with that fisheye look. The top flap doesn't bother me. STOP BEING LAZY, KEN! jk. Good point about it wearing out over time. I have that Anchorman Blu-ray with similar packaging and it has obvious wear on the flap, but I've literally opened it only once, and I bought it brand new, from Big Lots for $5, but brand new and sealed.
I thought The Strangers was pretty good, but I hated how it went/ended, so I only watched it once, but to me it was effective at eliciting a negative emotional response from me, so I did order the upcoming 4K. I didn't care much for the sequel. I'm probably not getting the Chapter 1 steelbook or even bothering to watch the movie. There are way too many movies to buy/watch for me to bother with new cash grabs like that. The movie isn't even that old. That'd be like them remaking The Dark Knight already. I'm good.

I just wanted the cool steelbook art. Also, I am (usually) a completionist. So you know... I have every Fast and Furious movie, even though some (*most) are absolutely hawte garbage. Same with Saw, Transformers, Resident Evil, etc. Got an IP that has one good movie and the rest could fill Donald's diaper? Yeah, I probably own it. Stay away from me Insidious... 💩I already own one... Dammit! Yep. Bought all the Jars Steelbooks... Feck! I bought The Meg 2: The Stench because it had a cool steelbook... So then Wallyworld just had to go re-print the steelbook for The Peg... Yeah, apparently my ADHD compelled me to bend over and buy that just so I can have a complete set. So no judgment from me. 😂

There’s no excuse for buying something you don’t like just because of the packaging. It’s just ocd that’s getting you to do that. Terrible movie, wastes money, wastes space, collects dust on shelves and never to be viewed. Maybe a one time viewing max and it’s still not worth it. Anyone who’s willing to invest in a fun hobby like this should think smart about it, and not compare themselves to other youtube channels who hoard movies and they think they’re missing out. In reality, you’re not really missing out on anything. You just need to sort out your priorities and spend money wisely and know what’s right and wrong. Because if you don’t know the basics, you’ll have a distasteful collection. There’s no better collection than only having the movies that you know are going to be viewed multiple times. That is a proper movie collector and collection.
How many times are you really going to watch the movie and have to take it out of that case? It shouldn't wear out, unless you are going to watch it everyday.
I like this movie and movies like it, but I usually watch those on netflix. I have bought some CDs with cool covers where I only kinda like the album, but not movies.
I don’t buy every movie I see, but I do buy those that I will watch, and maybe 😅rewatch a few times, now I am still trying to find that movie that will make me happy I have my Denon a1h with all speaker terminals filled in, but so far I haven’t really herd a movie utilize all speakers and sound great… with everything going, most movies probably only need about 2-4 height Atmos channels… which is kinda of sad… now o wish people would plug in and use all 6 heights.. to make it more worth it for the movie producers to make with an awesome Atmos track, that will utilize a 7.2.6 speaker set up… but I generally do like steel books, especially those I can get in Amazon now that Best Buy stopped selling Blue Rays…. I don’t like going to Walmart to pick up movies….
Same thing with Halloween ends I didn’t like the movie but bought it because steelbook looked awesome but enjoyed the strangers more than Halloween ends 🤷
I'm a horror fan that's not too hard to please. My favorite labels are Severin and Vinegar Syndrome their releases are great because they focus on cult and hard to find or rare movies. And their packaging is top notch. When it comes to recent movies I buy the DVD unless I liked it a lot then I buy the Blu-ray and 4K like with Terrifier 2. I ended up blind buying this 4K, because I loved the packaging when I seen a copy left at my Walmart. My GF & I ended up enjoying it. We loved the look & sounds great on my Dolby Amos Soundbar.

It’s a shame about the dumb characters. That’s one of the things I liked about the original is that the characters do some smart things, even if they don’t always work out as planned. Also, the original had incredible sound design. If you have a full surround setup, it felt like you were in that house being terrorized along with the characters.
Sorry. I dont buy any movie that I did not like because of nice packaging. Just not my style. I enjoy the definitive packaging of a movie I like. Example: I have the Scream Factory 4K of Aligator, which was just a standalone edition, so last week I bought the 101 edition with both 1 and 2 in a steardy sleeve with great art on it, also a booklet and poster.
I feel like Lionsgate knew this movie was ass, so they put out a cool steelbook cause that's the only way people would buy it. I sure as shit wouldn't lol
I avoid any movie in a steel book, I definitely don’t have your size collection but never understood the obsession with packaging. Sure I can appreciate a nice chunky box with the booklet and poster/art cards, but thats only once never have I (or anyone IMO) picked a movie off my shelf because of the pins or stickers included, but steel books include nothing appealing. Is rather have a an ok/good movie in a paper sleeve than a steel books (i do have some because often they are the cheaper release) but steel books add nothing, it smacks of hoarding behavior, like collecting bottle caps or a empty fast food containers. I agree with you about about the original Strangers with Liv Tyler it was ok first run, but not something I’d pick up again.

Ive started selling off my limited edition sets without the movie. Aka i just sell the boxsets and goodies and i keep the amaray case and movie. Feels so good. Same for slipcovers. Selling all of them. My bank account is rising
I am not sure about the "we" part. I collect movies. I collect movies that I like. I don't give a rats ass how cool the package is, if I think a movie sucks, I don't buy it. If anyone feels pressure to buy a movie because of the package, they are collecting for the wrong reasons and need to reevaluate what they are actually really collecting.

Quality over quantity, that's what I say. I only buy films I like, regardless of label and packaging. If I don't like a film it has no value to me. There's always cool stuff I want so why waste money on crap I don't want. Each to their own.

On another note, I also enjoyed Strangers Prey at Night more than the original ( I thought I might be the only one ) mainly because it was nice to see a character ( the 15 year old girl ) have more common sense than her adult parents or older brother and take care of business the way it should be when being attacked by masked murderers.

I don't think the strangers is terrible but it doesn't do anything new which I expected the first movie to go that way. Anything new and interesting will be happening in the next two movies. They filmed all three at the same time ,but are doing reshoots for the next one due to feedback they got so they should be out soon hopefully
I bought the Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny steelbook, which isn't even that good looking, simply because I had the steelbooks for the other four Indy films and I wanted to complete the set. Disney got this collector. There have also been films that I liked, but I was kind of on the fence about owning. But the steelbook was cool and that tipped the scales in favor of me buying. Young Guns and Sleepy Hollow come to mind.
I'm new to the movie collector channels. A few months ago I started watching Daniel's The Cobweb Channel and subscribed. Of course I began getting other like channels and that's how I found yours. After watching a few videos I subscribed to your channel. Part of the reason I like your and Daniel's channels is because I like you guys and like the way you both present your content.
I love, love, love listening to other people's opinions on movies - even when they disagree with me. I think it's important to get different points of view. And I absolutely agree with you that if you haven't seen a movie and it's one that seems interesting to you then no matter what anyone else says about it you should see it anyway and judge for yourself. There's been several times when I saw a movie that's gotten generally average to bad reviews and I liked it. Bottom line is it is subjective.

That it was his first time watching it even tho he already owned it on Blu-ray digibook. So he already owned the movie and never watched it and then payed for a deluxe edition for him to watch it and say it’s ok. 2 weeks ago he uploads a video talking about the second sight 4K and now all of a sudden the film is amazing, he’s completely gone back on what he and I bet he will pick up the 4k as well their is loads of times, he’s mentioned not watching a film despite owning it.

I've stopped doing my collection videos because I can't tell you how many times I've heard that I must be a trust fund baby to have the collection I have.
I've been collecting since early 2000's, I love collecting cool editions, and I've worked my butt off at my full-time job for over 30 years to have the money for the hobby.
I'm really tired of the judgement and gatekeeping so I collect what I like and share a lot less of it.

@@MovieChatter01 that's something I learned to do as well. My collection isn't as big like most but I tend to just share less and enjoy what I like and buy what I want. There's a lot of people in the community who have a hive like mind and think you should buy what they deemed is good and if you get anything else then they will belittle you. Mind you they probably have some movies in their collection that isn't liked by many people but yet it's their preference. It's just a internet thing for people to feel like they are better than you simply because you like something that they don't

I thought the 1st movie with Liv Tyler was decent and the 2nd one not so good. I prefer suspense over straight up slasher which the 2nd movie end up being, including a near superhuman killer akin to Jason/Myers. The 1st was just normal people in masks terrorizing and doing awful things.
I get why You Tubers will buy anything regardless of whether they like it or not, they need content, but anyone else who buys movies solely for cool packaging or any other reason than simply liking the movie isn’t a fan of movies, they’re a fan of collecting shit and how cool that shit looks on a shelf. The second someone says “I hated that movie, but I needed it for the collection” I walk away. They’re the modern day equivalent of the kid in school who wore the shirt of the band they didn’t listen to just to fit into a community.

The only time I think it’s truly shitty is with everything being a limited edition these days, seeing people who truly love a movie miss out because maybe they had to wait until payday, but it’s sold out and I know for a fact a good percentage of those purchases were bought up by people who have no intent whatsoever to watch it and just want to have it look pretty on the shelf or even worse, show it off on social media and then sell it off later at twice the price. It’s actually kind of pathetic what physical media collecting has come to. It was so much more satisfying before the internet.

Hi Ken. You go ahead and buy whatever you feel like. Ignore the critics! I’ve sometimes blind bought movies simply because I like the look of the artwork and extras. I would agree that some poor movies are not always worthy of the chunky box set special edition releases but I say each to their own!
The only way I'd end up buying a terrible movie would be because it was a blind buy. Never had anything I blind bought and up being terrible though.
The question of your video could be asked about any movie put out by Vinegar Syndrome. Questionably good movies are part of their business model.
I think a healthier way to look at film is to be able to differentiate between objective quality and one's own subjective view on it. Simply put, it's ok to LIKE a poorly made movie (terribly written, badly shot or edited, flawed effects, etc) if there's just something about it you latch onto.
Though I have to say, while there are plenty of bad films in my collection, I don't usually go out looking to buy movies I don't personally like, and I certainly would never go out to buy a movie I dislike just for the packaging alone.
There are exceptions, of course. Sometimes a movie I do like is part of a set with one or more movies I don't, and the one I want is harder to track down separately. And sometimes even a movie I strongly dislike can get the ol' gears turning in my head and get me thinking about what I might do differently if I'd had any creative influence over it.
As a collector it really depends on the film itself, I try to buy movies that I like instead of just having nice packaging. Most are blind buys movies with nice packaging like Blue Sunshine from Synapse Films which I ended up enjoying. In the end if the movie sucks I may just end up trading or selling it even though it has beautiful packaging.

I'm definitely not grabbing this one, but I love that packaging. I'm used to having to take all my cases out of flaps like that since I use those hard plastic protectors. I hope they continue to do it since it's basically the best of both worlds. I imagine Retro Protection will eventually have a protector that'll fit them.

I mainly buy stuff I know I’ll watch. But sometimes I buy nostalgic stuff (like 80’s/90’s cartoons) that I probably won’t rewatch again, but I want to have it on the shelf.
But otherwise I would never buy a movie I’m not interested in just because it has fancy packaging or because it’s a part of a ”blue line” or whatever.

I personally don't go by others' opinions because everyone likes something different. If I go by other opinions, then I'm going to go into the movie with negative views before ever seeing the film. I myself also like to watch movies knowing that it's somebody's ideas from their mind coming to life. It's a lot like living through their imagination, so if the movie is a masterpiece like intersteller or a b-rated movie like trailer park shark they are both someone's creation. With this line of thinking makes movies that much better for me personally.

I haven't bought very many movies I knew I disliked when I bought them. There are way too many movies I really like to waste money on releases I hate, especially if they're in some bulky collectors set that isn't shelf friendly. Maybe as a gag gift for someone. My sister and I go back and forth on giving each other movies we think they'll hate, like I gave her the recent Cats movie. She gave me The Sound of Music [but the jokes on her, because I didn't want to buy that movie, but now I have the Blu-ray on my shelf, which is good enough for me].
It depends I have the entire MCU on steelbook not all hits but I'm in TOO DEEP to not have 1 on steel cause it's an "ok" movie.
I have Halloween 2018 and KILLS on steelbook BUT I don't even own Halloween Ends cause I thought it sucked.
So for me it just depends if it's really bad I might not even buy it for the collection regardless of packaging.

I think the side of the card package could have been a slide out, or magnetic flapper on the top could have happened, oh and the lead actress was in the series Riverdale. And she was also great in the 2020 movie Sightless.
Often the quality of the movie/ tv series is the least important factor when I make purchase decisions. I have a fetish for certain production companies or when there is a great transfer and interesting extras of a mediocre movie.

I'd like a decent 4K release of Vacancy, which I watched "blind" as a projectionist after I built it and couldn't get any ushers/cashiers who wanted to watch it. I thought it was a Rom-Com/Comedy because it had Luke Wilson. I was pleasantly surprised, even though it wasn't perfect by any means.
Movies are very subjective!! If I listen to the opinions and reviews of the movies I own before deciding to buy . I would have miss out on a lot of good times.

I brought this 4k Steelbook of The Strangers Chapter 1 and it's weird but watchable....I Guess 😅😅😅
I think Lionsgate could've made The Strangers: Chapter 1 steelbook slightly cooler by making that peephole clear plastic, ideally in a way that would distort the image with that fisheye look. The top flap doesn't bother me. STOP BEING LAZY, KEN! jk. Good point about it wearing out over time. I have that Anchorman Blu-ray with similar packaging and it has obvious wear on the flap, but I've literally opened it only once, and I bought it brand new, from Big Lots for $5, but brand new and sealed.
I thought The Strangers was pretty good, but I hated how it went/ended, so I only watched it once, but to me it was effective at eliciting a negative emotional response from me, so I did order the upcoming 4K. I didn't care much for the sequel. I'm probably not getting the Chapter 1 steelbook or even bothering to watch the movie. There are way too many movies to buy/watch for me to bother with new cash grabs like that. The movie isn't even that old. That'd be like them remaking The Dark Knight already. I'm good.

There’s no excuse for buying something you don’t like just because of the packaging. It’s just ocd that’s getting you to do that. Terrible movie, wastes money, wastes space, collects dust on shelves and never to be viewed. Maybe a one time viewing max and it’s still not worth it. Anyone who’s willing to invest in a fun hobby like this should think smart about it, and not compare themselves to other youtube channels who hoard movies and they think they’re missing out. In reality, you’re not really missing out on anything. You just need to sort out your priorities and spend money wisely and know what’s right and wrong. Because if you don’t know the basics, you’ll have a distasteful collection. There’s no better collection than only having the movies that you know are going to be viewed multiple times. That is a proper movie collector and collection.
How many times are you really going to watch the movie and have to take it out of that case? It shouldn't wear out, unless you are going to watch it everyday.
I like this movie and movies like it, but I usually watch those on netflix. I have bought some CDs with cool covers where I only kinda like the album, but not movies.
I don’t buy every movie I see, but I do buy those that I will watch, and maybe 😅rewatch a few times, now I am still trying to find that movie that will make me happy I have my Denon a1h with all speaker terminals filled in, but so far I haven’t really herd a movie utilize all speakers and sound great… with everything going, most movies probably only need about 2-4 height Atmos channels… which is kinda of sad… now o wish people would plug in and use all 6 heights.. to make it more worth it for the movie producers to make with an awesome Atmos track, that will utilize a 7.2.6 speaker set up… but I generally do like steel books, especially those I can get in Amazon now that Best Buy stopped selling Blue Rays…. I don’t like going to Walmart to pick up movies….

I'm a horror fan that's not too hard to please. My favorite labels are Severin and Vinegar Syndrome their releases are great because they focus on cult and hard to find or rare movies. And their packaging is top notch. When it comes to recent movies I buy the DVD unless I liked it a lot then I buy the Blu-ray and 4K like with Terrifier 2. It’s a shame about the dumb characters. That’s one of the things I liked about the original is that the characters do some smart things, even if they don’t always work out as planned. Also, the original had incredible sound design. If you have a full surround setup, it felt like you were in that house being terrorized along with the characters.

Sorry. I dont buy any movie that I did not like because of nice packaging. Just not my style. I enjoy the definitive packaging of a movie I like. Example: I have the Scream Factory 4K of Aligator, which was just a standalone edition, so last week I bought the 101 edition with both 1 and 2 in a steardy sleeve with great art on it, also a booklet and poster.

I avoid any movie in a steel book, I definitely don’t have your size collection but never understood the obsession with packaging. Sure I can appreciate a nice chunky box with the booklet and poster/art cards, but thats only once never have I (or anyone IMO) picked a movie off my shelf because of the pins or stickers included, but steel books include nothing appealing. Is rather have a an ok/good movie in a paper sleeve than a steel books (i do have some because often they are the cheaper release) but steel books add nothing, it smacks of hoarding behavior, like collecting bottle caps or a empty fast food containers. I agree with you about about the original Strangers with Liv Tyler it was ok first run, but not something I’d pick up again.

I am not sure about the "we" part. I collect movies. I collect movies that I like. I don't give a rats ass how cool the package is, if I think a movie sucks, I don't buy it. If anyone feels pressure to buy a movie because of the package, they are collecting for the wrong reasons and need to reevaluate what they are actually really collecting.

With Biden/Harris I simply can't afford physical media anymore. I had to sold all my physical media just to pay bills . I miss buying physical media
