I hang on his every word. He just knows how to express himself 👍🏻 Greetings from South Africa 👋🏻 We share the same passion for our land like all of you Micronesians commenting here.
I'm Filipino American . I was raised on spam and corned beef along with rice. It's a total staple for our culture. Hawaiians love it too. Seems like all islanders love it
Thank you for being fair in your descriptions of our islands. I am a mix Micronesian (Palauan and Pohnpei) and very proud of my origin. I was born in Palau then raised in Pohnpei and Saipan. I love all our cultures and our diversity. We do have all kinds of delicious food and unique recipes. About Pohnpei, you described Mahr which we ferment to get a certain dexter and smell, just like some cheeses especially Blue Cheese 🤢Lol Whoever made you try mahr did not have you try the sweet version. I myself can not stand it if it was not done correctly. About animals in Pohnpei, we have lots of Exotic birds like our National bird the red Parrot which is not found anywhere else in the world and if you have gone into certain part of our jungles you will find other interesting animals besides spiders 😇. Thanks again for describing some of my most favorite food from Pohnpei. God Bless
Hi I’m Prasad from India.I like very much Micronesia. I want to be there for quite some time. Is it possible to get job there as I have pharma marketing exp.
4:32 that’s because in our culture, love is secret. It’s not something you show. It’s like that with most Pacific Islander cultures. When there’s a party and 2 people that like each other wanna talk, they disappear. And when they come back, they act like they don’t know each other lol.
Love you Micronesia. Just saw this video today. Been to Yap, Pohnpei, Chuuk, Guam. Also Palau, Saipan, Rota. Absolutely loved it there. Food is delicious and meet some of the most gentlest and kindest people. I have a very large map of all of Micronesia on my office wall. The young man above shares a good impression and insight on my experiences as well. Beautiful people and culture. And one more thing, when I arrived in Yap in the airport I was welcomed with a flower lei. I dried and kept the lei.
I have some friend from Yap and they are some of the most amazing people I have ever met not to mention they make the best bar-b-q I wouldn’t trade those guys for the world
I lived on the island of Moen in 1986-1987 as a 3rd-4th grader. I loved every second of it. Green mangos dipped in salt and soy souce was the jam. Kook aid packets mixed with salt. Super weird but makes my mouth water to this day. I’ll never forget the framers framing up houses hammering in a beat. Good times!
Oh wow I teared up listening to you!. I am a half-kas. Kosrean/ american my dad is white. I try to tell my husband stories of my life there when I went home for a year and you solidified everything I told him. I'm writing a book that I hope someday will be an epic movie. I would love to have you involved. Anyhow thank you for sharing your beautiful experience...
Oh that's cool!! I'm full Kosraean but I don't know much about the kosrae because I moved to america when I was three or four. People in my family said it was a beautiful place
I lived in Pohnpei when I was a kid- thanks so much for sharing - brought back so many memories- I remember eating dog- the ghosts, huge eels in the river near the waterfall in Metalanim - wonderful memories I lived at PATS in the 70’s
In the 70s when I was there, many people walked around hand in hand. One day I saw 2 teenage boys hand in hand. I asked about them, whether it was a romantic thing. The answer was no. They were best friends and had been since they were little. Nobody thought anything about it. It was normal. I'd like to add that it was also normal in my grandmother's generation. and when I was a kid in the 50's it was also common in Hawaii. I used to walk in the evening down Waikiki arm-in-arm with my grandmother. We also used to comb each other's hair, like I saw in Pohnpei as well. Things changed for the worse.
Homeboy is low-key working undercover for the Micronesian Tourism Bureau here no doubt. Killin it as shadow promoter too, great job. All the tourism development boards gonna be clamoring to hire him to rep their sets for sure. Mad respect to decent respectful travelers like this one.
Thank you for sharing. Spot on, in my opinion. My family and I lived in Pohnpei for 3 years and my daughter was born there. I very much miss Micronesia. Ih lelehki tiahk en Pohnpei. Kili en wai, apw moahngiong en Pohnpei.

Very informative. Young man is so enjoyable to listen to as he is well spoken and so knowledgeable, I loved the details he shares. Thank you for this wonderful educational video
You brought back old memories! I lived on Pohnpei for 2 years 49 years ago. It's easy to remember the years because my son was born there 49 years ago last month. Back then, there were no paved roads. You didn't mention that delicious drink called sacau (just kidding). There are also African snails which only come out at night, so maybe you didn't see them. The Japanese brought them there because they loved to eat snails. Did you see the big eels in the river? We also lived for 4 years in the Marshall Islands. At that time, the older folks had gone to school while the Japanese were in control and schools were in Japanese. So those who had gone to school before l945 spoke Japanese, and those born after that year were educated in English.
This ! 🙌 for the japanese part i can confirm it’s really true. My great grandfather spoke japanese bcus he lived through the japanese era as for us the younger generations learned english while speaking our native language. Hope your experience there was great.
My father was a member of a U.S Air Fore C.A.T (civic action team) that spent 9 months on Pohnpei 1988-1989 helping build up the infrastructure on the Island. He loved it there and I personally would love to move there. Also a friend of mine owns a construction company called JACO that is currently building there and I hope to go soon
I was on Pohnpei CAT team January 85 to July 85. I've probably met your father. I was Army. Air force took over in 88. Ask your Dad if he remembers Rick.
i live in micronesia and its the best state ever....the corona cannot even reach any single person in fsm because we are protected by god and the sun is also protecting us
I don't know when this guy was there, but i was in Yap in 2016 and 2017 because I was dating a Yapese man, and the women did not go topless. We went all over the island and saw/met many people and the only time I saw anyone dressing traditionally (not wearing Goodwill shirts like 'hotdogs, hotdogs, hotdogs!' etc) was the occasional really old person. Regardless, much respect to all islanders. It was an honor to be able to visit.
I heard a story about early Yap when the American Administrator said that the women needed to wear a T-shirt when coming to the government offices. The women didn't understand why, but they obeyed but cut two holes in the front for comfort!

They would be so much better off not jointing into our society. Look what the USA did to native Hawaiian people. If anyone from that country is reading this plz set boundaries, they will try to change you they have done this since taking over North America with natives here. USA life style is horrible and it’s nothing to desire. 🥺❤️ found this because I’m looking for somewhere to escape too eventually, I live in the USA rn and it’s mentally torturing at times.
Which is funny cause I fell down and started bleeding then my 3rd hour teacher ask me to see a doctor. I replied that the injury that I got is nothing but a scratch they were shocked that I said that..
Coconuts are like that throughout the islands, they younger they meat has not fully formed, thus the softer and sweeter lol. Banana spiders are harmless, I bet they dont play with Recluse or Black Widows. Anyone who has lived here knows that.😅😂😊
As a melanesian I can confirm that micronesia are the most chill people in the Pacific 😍😍
