Will you do a declutter of the backup box if you find you're not going through products fast enough? It seems like products could languish there as well. Also I love how you say languish
It’s interesting because you do seem to be acquiring more things through your work on UA-cam which I know you have talked about. I wonder as you continue to collect more things, when do you say “no more”? Because you will acquire faster than you can use. Even though you are giving away, your collection from an outside perspective seems to be growing. There’s no judgement there - we shouldn’t assess this as “good” or “ bad” as thresholds are personal. Have you thought about what is your personal threshold to say “no more” - even if that’s just for the next 3 or 6 months?
Thank you for raising this in a really nice non-judgemental way. So many comments on these last few videos have been so negative. I think we’re all wondering how this is going to work but it isn’t our place to judge. Thanks for being a kind soul.
I was wondering this as well. after watching Hannah try to reckon and struggle to keep up with the influx of PR despite her very, very strong attempts to maintain a small flow, the truth is that her (and anyone’s) collection would definitely just continue to grow faster than it can be reckoned with/stemmed because it takes no time and almost no money at all for companies to gift a piece of product but it would take a single person months/years to use up even at a consistent rate, while new items keep coming and coming. No judgement here, either, just the reality of PR: it’s like trying to plug a dam by using a bandaid on the crack water’s still coming from. Eventually you move to a bucket, but that still doesn’t stop the river behind the wall, y’know? I’m interested to see how this is dealt with in the new year. I’m noticing a trend in these decluttering videos where comments about “using up in 2020” and “panning entirely” are being subconsciously put out. Idk what your plan is, Hannah, but perhaps returning to a middle ground between a no buy year and the budget, with a focus on finishing already half-empty items would be beneficial if you’re still receiving PR?
I'd love a peak into your backups box! And maybe what your rules for yourself are regarding the products inside and buying from categories that are in the backups box! :) Kudos to you for decluttering to much!
I think it might be helpful in 2020 to set boundaries for accepting PR. For example only excepting two or three items per month. I feel like it’s getting really overwhelming for you and I can totally understand why that would be
I didn't really want to comment this video because I didn't have anything to say, but then I went through the comments and omg 😱 so much negativity! And it is a recurring thing for this series of videos! So Hannah, I want you to know that there are many people who really enjoy your videos and value your work on UA-cam, don't get discouraged by the criticism you are receiving 💓
@@nairabee245 You are absolutely right. Criticism is not necessarily a bad thing, but in this specific case I had a feeling that also "the nicer comments" were crossing the line a bit. We don't go around criticizing or giving advice on every aspect of someone else's life, especially someone we don't know well, because it would be rude and inappropriate, but somehow online people feel free to do it. Hannah is a real person with real feelings, she reads what we write, so there is no need to point out every little thing we would do differently, because it's not what we would do with someone we know in real life.
Beatrice Tambosi as long as they weren’t rude and some weren’t, some were respectful I don’t see a problem with pointing things out. I saw no one pointing out tiny differences and nitpicking her to death, the ones I saw were about what they felt were fundamental changes in the direction of her channel which I think is fair. Not saying I agree with any of it. Just that I don’t think it’s the end of the world or bullying to respectfully voice an opinion that isn’t overwhelmingly positive.
@@nairabee245 Reading what I wrote I realized that it sounds like I am saying that all the comments are negative and it's absolutely not true, there are many comments that are perfectly fine, even if they are not, as you said, overwhelmingly positive. But there are also a lot of comments (maybe not under this specific video, but under the others of this kind) that were really unnecessary. Not the end of the world and definitely not bullying, but not the way people would behave face to face. I hope I made my point clear now 😊
Hi Hannah! I'm wondering if you would like to share if you actually 'got rid of' all the products you decluttered in your series? Since you often speak about how the rest of your familiy has minimal interest in beauty products, i'm wondering if they even wanted to adopt this huge amount of makeup and skincare? I hope this doesn't sound rude, I'm just genuinely interested if you gave away all of your stuff or if they are still in some kind of 'declutter box'. Love your channel and i hope you had a great christmas with your family!
I was also wondering the same thing. I recently decided to declutter a lot of items from my home and was trying to give some of my stuff away to friends and family. One of my family members said "all your doing is making your junk someone else's problem!" Wow. I had never thought of it that way. This was the moment I realized that the only way to be a good steward of the land was to actually reduce the amount of stuff I actually bought or brought into my life. I could no longer just make my junk "Someone Else's Problem".
There are a number of organizations that accept gently used cosmetics and skin care products, as do many women's shelters, for people who do not have friends and family who want their declutters. But I think Hannah has friends in and out of the beauty community who trade beauty products as well as her family.
Have you considered a "What I got in PR this month" along with your "What I bought with my budget this month" next year? It's a bit shocking to see all the skin care items i think you got in PR (as I don't recollect a lot of budget purchases of most of this skin care)....I could be wrong of course! ETA I commented before the end of the video...maybe your project might address this. I know many viewers care and see you as a friend and are reconciling the amount of product flow through your life with your enjoyment of luxury and trying new things and also your "fewer, nicer things" vision.
I feel like your backup box must be overflowing by now, and I'm very curious about how many nieces you have as you are giving so many products away haha :)

Oh, the allure of those higher price tags!! Is it worth it? What makes 'it' SO special to COST (not necessarily the VALUE of the thing) so much! What magical ingredient(s) must the thing possess to be so spendy...!!?? I fall into this trap too sometimes; trying very HARD to find more affordable options for skin care!!
Check out Dr. Dray’s channel. Skin care does not have to cost a lot. What’s working well for me is cereve lotion, differen gel, the ordinary vitamin c, basic acids from the ordinary, holika holika oil cleanser, Rosehip seed oil, and a Korean whitening cream that’s like $13. Nothing I use is even $20. None of these products are sexy, but they work.
Mystic Fox speak for yourself. I find the ordinary and cera ve very sexy. How was ur experience with differin btw. I used the ordinary’s garnactive retinoid 2% and it broke me out. Turns out I was using it wrong so I’m gonna see if the changes on how I was using it make a difference but did u experience purging with differin?
As I've gotten older, I've really streamlined my "routine"--lol I know that seems backwards but it's working for me. One cleanser- purity by philosophy; vit C from the Ordinary in the AM followed by hyaluronic acid (the ordinary), moisturizer (cere ve) then sunscreen. Night time- cleanser, then either retinol, retin A or AHA (my one expensive product- Honeymoon Glow by Farmacy) and then the cere ve moisturizer again. Easy and cheap. If my skin feels particularly dry, I have a J beauty essence/serum and the marula oil from the Ordinary.
Thank you all for these suggestions. I have a few products from The Ordinary and do like them! The Vit C Suspension took some getting used to - it is kind of like paste - but I do like it. I am using The Buffet, Niacinamide, Vit C, and the AHA to use soon. It's totally a mental thing; believing (hoping...??) that costly products are miracle workers. They truly haven't been, in my experience (just my opinion). Thanks again!!

Watching these end-of-year declutters for the first time and agreeing with you so much. Thank you! No wonder Hannah was disheartened at the start of her 2020 project!
It looks so much better! I've just finished reading Marie kondo's book and I've just declutter ed my makeup and skincare along with you. It's so nice just keeping the things that truly spark joy, I really do love it as a technique :)
You did so good on ur declutter. I have always wanted to se the top of ur vanity so thanks for that I aways wondered what u kept on top of it. Have a happy New Years
Hannah, I’ve read through a lot of your commenters comments about the direction of your channel and the amount of products you have etc. and I’ve noticed you haven’t responded to anyone. Do you plan on doing that?
The Weleda Skin Food is an amazing thick (THICK) skin cream in a tube. Even the “light” version is really heavy. The baby version doesn’t have fragrance.
Hi Hannah! That's a super satisfying organisation on your vanity) what are those stone things sitting in front of your skincare? They look interesting but i have no idea what are they for haha
I hope that in the new year you will be more transparent about the direction of this channel. I think, if you want to remake it into a typical review channel, your subs deserve to know. As of right now, I'm just not interested in your reviews, as so many of them are just: "this is a great 150$ face oil, that I would never buy with my budget!", like, ok Hannah, neither will I. It's not really a fair review, or a particularly useful one. If your skincare (or makeup, actually!)was bought with your budget, your recs would be worth something to me (and they were, when that was the case), but seeing you keep 5 Natasha denona palettes that you would also "never buy with the budget" is just two-faced and frustrating to watch. Unloading the burden of your unused things into your non-makeup using family is also jarring and goes so much against so many of the things you, yourself, had said during your no-buy. I love your makeup playtime vids, and appreciate your point of view of the world, but if this is the plan for next year, I'll have to unsub, even though I'd be really sad about it. I think this is the first vid in a year that I just couldn't watch all the way through.
Did you see that Timeless repackaged their serum products? I was confused and ultimately disappointed when my recent vitamin c serum came in an orange plastic pump instead of the glass bottle with dropper. They claim it's to help with the photosensitivity of the product, but I find it bulky and ugly PLUS you cannot control how much product comes out of the pump. I messaged them with some feedback and haven't heard anything back yet.
I hear you on the hydration step(s) overload. Two affordable nourishing moisturizers I like that come in tubes are the Illiyoon Ceramide Ato Cream and the Acure Radically Rejuvenating Whipped Night Cream.
As I am going through the videos I am getting worried for you. I see really bad habits coming back, 7 face oils, multiple back-ups. You distinctly said about a year back you only would ever need 1 all purpose face oil, now you have 7, not to mention anything you have in your back up box. I do realize you didn't have to purchase any of these items as they were all PR but it does feed into the same bad mindset of never having enough and always looking for the next best thing. There were also things you are decluttering that were never reviewed so I am wondering if there is a steady stream of items that routinely make it into your collections we never see, Just be careful please. You are so far away from your 1 in use and no back up from a year ago in almost every single category, not to mention a probably already overflowing backup box. We see your overflowing table get more and more cluttered with each passing month. I am concerned.
Rebecca Sahraoui was that ever really the goal? Seems like it was more financial freedom. Clutter isn’t a good thing but all this product is actually *making* her money. This is a very different thing than what was going on before. I think it would be cause for concern if she stopped considering her feelings about it all and broke her budget, which she hasn’t. Idk, I’m just not convinced this is cause for concern ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
@@elisecccccccc you may be right. If it was all about her getting pretty and expensive things for free then I guess goal accomplished. But then that really just makes it one more over-indulged influencer pushing stuff on followers who could.never afford things like $160 face oil. I guess I had always thought of her channel as something special, not just a very high priced form.of every other beauty influencer.
Rebecca Sahraoui I don’t think that was necessarily the goal, but it is what is happening. I also think it’s important to understand- UA-cam is an advertising machine. One important thing to remember is that if something (whether that be a product or service) is free, then you aren’t the customer. If you can look at things in that light and understand that even if she shows you a $160 serum, you still don’t have to buy it. Or any other influencer for that matter. Our personal habits are fully within our control and I think the most we can ask of just about any influencer is for them to keep entertaining us. Hannah’s channel is special in that it is considering all of these shopping behaviors and spending habits in depth and that she has a new project every year. I love Hannah’s videos and the way that you can see the arch of her mindset changing over time, but as for being an over indulgent influencer or not, that seems like a very black and white definition in a world that is very grayscale.
@@elisecccccccc You do make valid points. However, I was using her own words. In her first year she mentioned continually how unnecessary it was to have multiples, both financially and in responsible consumerism. She has also mentioned many times the need to keep the number of.things coming in very low so she doesn't trigger herself. These are her words, not mine. If this is only a business that's fine. But you cannot preach minimalism to all the people who watch your.videos and sit on thousands of dollars of free product at the same time. It is hypocritical.
@@beckrick2523 In her video about PR, she said that getting free stuff didn't really had the same effect as shopping. The reason is that she never gets in PR things that she wishes for and most of the shop addiction comes from searching for the product, comparing prices, adding to cart... (which doesn't take place when receiving free stuff). However, it definitely must be an overwhelming feeling to manage so many products (what to keep, what to give, where to store it...etc)
That giveaway box is not for subscribers, it is for her family and friends. From what I understood, her friends and family are not that enthusiastic about makeup and skincare as she is, so it makes sense that the product goes to the person who would enjoy it the most (in this case, Hannah).
Not that big of a deal in my opinion. I’m sure many of us have “saved” an item or two we put into a box to take to donate. At least she is aware of doing it and the reason.
"From what I understood, her friends and family are not that enthusiastic about makeup and skincare as she is, so it makes sense that the product goes to the person who would enjoy it the most (in this case, Hannah)." But then why would they want dozens of other items Hannah didn't like or that she deemed to have inferior, potentially skin-damaging ingredients?
Agreed! The thing is, I agree with a lot of what those comments are trying to say. However, the way they are phrased is just patronizing instead of being constructive. It makes me kind of uncomfortable. Hannah is not your child to be “concerned” over. You do not know her better than she knows herself. Look, I’m not the biggest fan of the direction her channel is going in (but it’s completely fair for her to take it in that direction) and will likely unsubscribe if it doesn’t change (which is completely fair for me to do/express). The constant intake-declutter and review videos are not what I thought this channel was about, and hurt rather than help me stop buying as much makeup. BUT she does not exist to support my recovery process - it’s neither her fault nor her problem that it doesn’t help. If she wants to become a more traditional review type channel with a somewhat anti-consumerist edge, that is entirely her prerogative. If people are sad that they’re losing what many viewed as a unique/special space in the YT community, they get to feel that. What they shouldn’t do, however, is talk about her like she’s an infant.
I don’t know if you can get in in the US but, after your initial explorations on night cream I ended up going to Weleda Iris night cream. It is thick and smells really clean and good. In the uk £12.99 a tube. They also do a rich skinfood in a tube. I like them because I can change tubes every 2 months.
Victoria Byers - the iris smells of a beautiful gentle iris. It is a soft white cream with a more oily than waxy feel. Sinks in well without leaving oily residue. Very gentle and effective.

Watching these end-of-year declutters for the first time and agreeing with you so much. Thank you! No wonder Hannah was disheartened at the start of her 2020 project!
So satisfying! I'm definitely going through my own vanity and getting ready for a more streamlined 2020! 🤞🏻♥️
It looks so much better!
I've just finished reading Marie kondo's book and I've just declutter ed my makeup and skincare along with you. It's so nice just keeping the things that truly spark joy, I really do love it as a technique :)
My mom got them for me for Christmas and I just finished kon-mari-ing my whole house! The freedom is astounding.
You did so good on ur declutter. I have always wanted to se the top of ur vanity so thanks for that I aways wondered what u kept on top of it. Have a happy New Years
Thanks for sharing Hannah! I love an end of year look evaluation!
Not sure if you’ve done this because I am a semi new subscriber but could you do a favorite skincare oils video? 🥰
Just tried weleda skin food this year and it's the BOMB. I freaking love that stuff. My skin is super dry and it's so nourishing
Hi Hannah! That's a super satisfying organisation on your vanity) what are those stone things sitting in front of your skincare? They look interesting but i have no idea what are they for haha
L Crook looks like the bar soap (for soap brows) and a marble dish
@@nltz85 ooooh! Makes total sense thank you)
Such wonderful progress! Nice vanity! Thank you! ;D
Oh man loved that vintage essence from Amorepacific!! That’s a real treat since it’s such a steep price!
Thanks Hannah! A very inspiring video.
Two affordable nourishing moisturizers I like that come in tubes are the Illiyoon Ceramide Ato Cream and the Acure Radically Rejuvenating Whipped Night Cream.
wow what a difference!
great job hannah
Fewer. Nicer. Things. Unless it's free, then I'll take it all. Yikes.
I couldn't have said it better.
have to agree.
You took an item out of the giveaway box because you discovered it was expensive? 🤔
Of course! Expensive = better. Wasn't that one of the main lessons during the no-buy year? /s
"From what I understood, her friends and family are not that enthusiastic about makeup and skincare as she is, so it makes sense that the product goes to the person who would enjoy it the most (in this case, Hannah)."
But then why would they want dozens of other items Hannah didn't like or that she deemed to have inferior, potentially skin-damaging ingredients?
no thanks Please find a more positive use of your time 🙏🏻
Cant wait what 2020 holds for you (and me as well :D)
you can buy airless pump containers for moisturisers on amazon.
Many of you in the comments need to stop micro-managing her. Hannah is a grown woman.
THIS.
I've only tried the skinfood! How does the iris night cream differ? I'd be interested in trying it :)
Victoria Byers - I have only tried the itis night cream!! It smells of a beautiful
Victoria Byers - the iris smells of a beautiful gentle iris. It is a soft white cream with a more oily than waxy feel. Sinks in well without leaving oily residue. Very gentle and effective.
@@lizseville1 that sounds lovely! I'll definitely have to see if they carry it at the store I buy the Skinfood from! Thank you :)
Victoria Byers - what’s the skinfood like? Do you buy the light or the rich?
Aww i missed the echo of madwoman
But will Joe notice? 😂
