How a service dog travels.

As many of you know, Magnus is able to travel with me because he is also my SD. During COVID he became my task trained service dog for a severe seizure disorder I have.
Here are some of the most common questions I get asked about traveling with Magnus.
Where does he sit?
Do I need to pay for his ticket?
How does he go through security?
Does TSA ever search your dog?
Does he ever get distracted in the airport?
Where does he go to the bathroom.
This video shows what often happens when I take him through security at the airport. As you can see, there must be an extremely high level of trust to go along with the extensive training in order to have your dog completely untethered in an airport. Most dogs would simply run away and probably head to the food court. LOL. However, Magnus ALWAYS remains locked onto me. Knowing that Magnus always behaves like a rockstar makes traveling so easy and stress free.
What else do you want to know about traveling with a service dog?

Such a gentledog. Acts better than humans ive seen at the airport 😂.
They should have a large SD on every flight .... The two legged animals flying would behave then 🤣. I was flying back from Mexico in 2022 and we had 2 service dogs and about 10 cats and small dogs in carriers and none of furries made a sound. It was BEST FLIGHT EVER! It was a UA flight ❤️🌐
@@talesfromtheleashexpatdogl1426 I would of loved that flight
Yeah people should learn hahaha a dog being such good rolemodel.
Definitely has more class than the 2 legged animals
@@truethought7288 two legged animals are the biggest problem the planet has
He’s better behaved than half the people you see at the airport.
More than half, like 99.9%
Isn't that the truth LOL
YEAH BETTER THAN SOME ADULTS AT AIRPORT
I hate going to the airport but I love the flights it’s peaceful (usually)

This is the exact reason why I tell my boys all the time don’t disturb a working dog. They have a job to do and protect the people they are trained to. Show them respect. ❤❤
What a great thing to teacher your children I wish adults would understand that even if they are beautiful gentle dogs and very well behaved it's their job.
Thank you 🙏
Well said
Magnus is so obedient ❤️
😢😢😢
Yep! That's a real service dog! You'd be surprised how many people ask me why my service dog is so well behaved. My answer is always, "Because she's a REAL service dog and not just a dog in a vest."
It blows my mind there isn't a more regulated method of approving service dogs. The fact that anyone can bring in a dig and claim they are a service dog makes no sense. There should be a card or something you have to carry to prove they are. And to get a card they have to go through legit training and pass a test. Like getting a license or something.
@@kaylalamers950 it can be harder for disabled people to get that kind of registration, especially if it has to be government regulated training. It can be too expensive, upwards of thousands of dollars, just to have a trainer and not train them yourself. As long as the dog is trained to perform a task for a disability, it is a service dog.
It blows my mind that you have fake service dog.
In my country service dogs are documented, so if someone is trying to pass a regular dog for a service dog you can simply ask for they documents to check... If it is not a service dog it cannot be in most interior places.
Had a class once where a fellow classmate had a service dog, vest and everything. The dog never interrupted class once, never caused any problem, ever. Very well trained dog.
@Tiffany Patton we had a little dog who was a service dog and trained to be with me where I go, he was an emotional support animal but still had to be trained as a service dog. I had and still have several depression and an anxiety disorder/ since I was a kid. He was a good boy and sadly passed from cancer. I do think for a emotional support animal tho they should still be trained. When walking with him we ran into some other people who had an emotional support dog (claimed on vest) much bigger than mine too and there dog was clearly not trained and ran up to attack my dog, me needing a support animal because of my mental disorders, that happening caused me to have a sever anxiety attack and my mum who was with me had to run in and grab our bby from getting hurt any worse than he already was. So yes I’m sorry but I really do think you need to get them trained. The money part isn’t as bad depending on where you go to get them trained. Think about it too, if you want any animal you need to make sure you have the money for vet bills if needed and vet bills are much higher than taking ur dog in to train to be a service animal.
He’s a good boy
The good-est.
I can't read your comment using my normal voice. I read it like I'm talking to my Chiweenie.
🙏🇱🇷🌝🌝🌝
A great boi
I need him to fly with me l am scared of people at the airport and heights and planes.
He is definitely a sweetheart, deserves that human kiss 100%
okay but props to the parents and child in the background. they didnt pet or anything and just observed. those parents taught the girl right!
A service dog should always focus on the owner when the dog is not in the house. Magnus is a perfect example of a great service dog.
And love your shirt😅
Service dog should be living a life focused on someone who needs him not some bozo who clearly doesn't need a physical support animal... he should walk away from that bozo and tell him to get his f*cking life together
Well he is a therapy dog which isn’t a service dog
@Smol my point exactly....this is not a service dog... this is clearly a conduit of attention for this clown ass owner who is exploiting this dog for his own attention at every turn.even to the point where doing it in public wasn't enough but he now needs to post it on the internet.. and brain dead cucumbers like yourself eat it up...🤣 and he still can't clothes that fit... hillbillies are hilarious for all the wrong reasons 😂
Unless they are the owners' eyes or are ptsd dogs. Not every dog is going to stare at their human depending on training.
LOVE THIS!! Perfect example of a TRUE service dog. Beautifully done!
Exactly!!!
It’s too bad there are so many that try to pass pets as service animals while traveling. 😢 Nice to see a trained service animal as a brilliant example.❤
Me too in special when he gave him a kiss .
Exactly! That's how a real service dog acts. I am so sick and tired of people bringing dogs into any and all public locations with either fake vests and what not on or better yet - nothing at all and they figure they can just get away with this crap cause everyone is afraid to say jack to anyone these days. Don't get me wrong - I love dogs. However, I seriously don't need someone else's dog jumping all over me when I'm trying to shop or barking and jumping or being right up on me when I'm trying to eat dinner in a restaurant.
@@TErickson-se3xd Oh well, you know Karen, you can always ask for the manager. 🙄
Beautifully done, good boy Magnus… and owner for that matter. I’m sure this was the easiest or one of the easiest check-in’s the employees have ever encountered.
He's the goodest boy ❤️
I love how the family stepped back so as to not interfere.
The dad obviously stepped between his daughter and the dog, to protect her if the dog wasn't good. Never trust an unleashed dog until you have proof you can, especially with children around.
There's something to be said for that family for sure! They're a great example of how to act around a service dog.
Friendly reminder to people that there are some service dogs that look around a little bit more or check on their environment for PTSD, hearing, detection, or sighted/non-sighted guide tasks. Obviously, they should still be well-behaved and well under control, house trained, focused on their handler, etc. But some legitimate service dogs may still be working hard even if they dont look "laser focused" every single second! ❤
True; as long as they are well trained, housebroken.. It's hard to know what tasks the dog knows disability someone has. I have a retired Yorkie. He's 13 I line in NYC. He was super well trained, rode all buses/trains/planes/ferries. Always laid under feet and walked everywhere. Never needed a leash, he was so well trained he knew what buses/trains to take and when to wake me up.
Now I still occasionally take him with me but all that walking his whole life his; knees are weak and he has some breathing issues and I have to carry him; usually in a backpack. He still knows his tasks.
I don’t think it makes him less of a service dog when he comes with me. Needing some help.
Also why not just not use metal stuff. At the airport isn’t it easier to just walk through; make it as seamless/quick as possible for everyone? That’s what I did. Unless of course you have mobility dog/guide dog. Just seems odd to choose metal color at airport.
@@bravo795mp I totally understand and team accommodations are so helpful. Just be aware, if you ever end up needing their support, the ADA may or may not cover/protect/assist/give rights to dogs above 8-10 years or handlers working a disabled animal ❤️ service handler here myself so just want you to be aware of any even potential forfeiture of rights coverage.
Use to work at a laundromat and had a man come in who’s sevice dog would always do a complete perimeter check before settling with the owner.
It depends on what specifically they were trained for. I know some dogs a trained to know when glucose levels are going down to alarm their owners. Others for seizures, PTSD, ect.
Exactly this.
My service dog and I would never be this far apart when he is working, and we don't cross through security points like this.
When we went to a courthouse recently we did the answer questions ("is that a service dog?" ect), walked through the metal detector together with him in gear, I got wanded with him in a sit two feet to the side, he was ignored by security, I put my stuff back in my pockets, and we went on with our day.
TSA does a full pat down and swab of us, whatever gear I can put through the x ray goes there. We don't travel alone. We don't go through the metal detectors (this video is may be a regional airport or old, I can't imagine the TSA letting anyone record these days), we hang around and wait for the all clear, collect our stuff and go on our way.
My boy will constantly be scanning the environment, sniffing things, in motion. This doesn't mean he's out of my control. It means he is working, making sure that nothing is going to trigger my PTSD. When we're in an environment that already has me on edge (a place like this for example), he will also be ready to give an alert on something - which means one or two barks until I acknowledge him. Due to breed bias (German Shepherd) this can be read as aggression. He's just enthusiastic about his job.
Beautiful, he's well trained. Great job!
Better behaved and cooperative than most kids
And many adults!
@@BarbeloSees lately? Dude, Mfers enslaved people, killed two presidents, and shoot shit up. This is a constant.
Never seen a kid freak out during TSA, but i have seen grown adults do it.
crazy -acting pets or kids?...check out the adult (owner) in "charge"
Lol especially your rude kids
WOW…he was so unbelievably laser focused on you…but my absolute favorite thing in this video is your T-shirt…hands down the best slogan ever…luv it!!!
I made the same observation! Great t-shirt - I'd have one that includes "and cats" because whichever one prefers these pets do wonders for their humans!
Perfection in a dog. Also, I love that man’s shirt, more dogs, less people. I couldn’t agree more.
He is beautiful and so much better behaved than most kids.
Kids these days...!!! On the whole, children up until only very recently have been VERY WELL BEHAVED.
and people! lol
magnus is a SUPER cute gentleman
@@guineapigshavetakenovermyl6602 Yes, it's been a total downward decline, children and adults alike. Of course, children have the excuse that their poor behavior is caused by their parents, hence, we adults are at least _doubly_ failing...! 🥴😕
It takes a special person to train service dogs and both the trainers and the dogs deserve my admiration for their work.
There are not enough words to express the good that is done by these people and the dogs expect "THANK YOU FOR YOUR SRRVICE!!!!! AND GOD BLESS YOU❤️

You can always tell a real service dog when you see them. Well behaved and highly trained. ❤❤
Doesmt he need the appropriate markings on his collar or shouldn't he have the vest
@@shayslay3416 if he's "working" his collar may say service animal or SVAN. Doesn't have to though. If they have the card and paperwork that will suffice. They have to be harnessed or have a collar for sure
If I took my dog off his leash 😂…..😂😂😂😂😂. That’s why we love the big boy so much. He never takes his eyes off of you. Truly love of your life and we are enthralled 🥰🥰

A true service animal is trained.
And he was trained well as a puppy and knows nothing else. Every step done to perfection.🎉
My friend’s service dog believes she’s service dog to the whole world. Lola has shoved me out the door of my shop to the mall’s food court when my number dropped low. She could smell I needed food!
RIGHT!!!
Great respect for service dogs and those who train them
I love the fact that it says "Less people
More dogs"Love that shirt😂❤
Great post and example for people to see. I had a dog I started with gentle obedience training when I first got her. At 6 months old she would heal beside me as I carried her kennel through the Philadelphia Airport.
A well behaved dog (as a well behaved human) is welcome just about anywhere.
Magnus has more of a heart and soul than most of humanity ❤
Как же радостно смотреть на то, как у вас люди относятся к животным!!! ❤ Не растеряйте это😊
Thank you for sharing! As an airport worker, I extend my support and appreciation for you and your fully trained service assistant. As I see so many people on a daily basis who abuse this regulated accommodation, I only hope those individuals get to see this video and realize their abuse of the system makes everyone suffer, especially your legitimately trained companion! I wish you and yours a happy and long time together!
I hope you're speaking of true abuse and not just individuals who are forced to owner trained and maybe made a mistake or are struggling. Getting a service Dog is extremely difficult for most civilians, but obviously they are needed, so some people are forced to do the best they can on limited or zero income usually. Please keep that in mind when you're judging these teams and try to remain compassionate & empathetic toward them.
I hope you're just as outspoken with your coworkers who don't know the law, force handlers to remove their gear, and roll eyes at those of us with invisible disabilities who don't "look" like their ableist expectations. Because I sure do face a lot of that as a 20-something year old Woman Veteran with a genetic disorder that went undiagnosed till the wear and tear started eating my joints.
A Service dog is suppose to only do things on command and that Service dog was definitely doing all the right things.👏🏻👏🏻😁❤️
No PRBLEM for Magnus...💯🐾❤️
Magnus has better social skills than a lot of flyers.
I wish more people acted like this handsome young dogs ! Airports are insane
You know what's insane? Getting your plane highjacked because someone put a knife in their service dogs vest. Safety over comfort people..
Look at this distinguished gentleman! Good boy Magnus ❤
Ughhhh, that lil wiggle walking full focus. ❤ So sweet. Precious dog.
He's an amazing dog. The dad loves his boy alright.❤
What a fine good boy ❤
An actual service dog. Neat.
He just watched and kept his attention on him such a good pup. I absolutely love dogs and honestly we humans don't deserve them
Your dog is a breath of fresh air. I hate going to stores where the dogs are barking and pulling, and peeing all over the place. I want that shirt you are wearing!
Such obedience and preciousness
Service dogs get what most dogs would enjoy. They are with their special person all the time. ❤
Such a good boy!
What a distinguished gentleman.
Had a service dog several years back who had to travel with us by plane. She had done the same. The flight went very well, especially when landed at our first stop when she "totally" refused to use the "doggy bathroom" and insisted on going outside! Fortunately, we had enough time to do so.
I would imagine it smells terrible in there! I would be scared I'd come out smelling like hot festering urine. No one wants to smell like that, especially not when traveling and you can't bathe!
What a perfect example of a service dog! Well done pupper! Focused on his human at all times! Beautiful pup! ❤️💯
Those people are so respectful that's nice!
I've had three different instance of people stepping on or hitting my SD with their suitcases because they're trying to rush through. She's only 33lbs so now I pick her up for safety.
Much respect... That truly is a service dog❤
Better behaved than most passengers on airlines these days. He/she is amazing and beautiful.❤

In canada, we aren’t allowed to remove their leash or collar ever. They go through the detector with it on, and my girl hates dragging the leash, so she picks it up and carrier it through. Also the last time I flew, she didn’t have to remove her vest either and was just swabbed.
Swabbed or scanned?
Yeah I’m a bit confused as I’ve had multiple service dogs go through airport checks in US with their leads on I’d say most have a policy against taking restraints off!😅

Having a well behaved trained dog is one of the biggest flexes ever.
Whenever I see a person with a well trained dog, I automatically have immense respect for that person. It clearly means that he/she spends a lot of time with the dog and knows how to control his/her pet.
My brother trained his German Shepherd himself to move with him and follow commands. It really is impressive but he's a pretty amazing person anyway

That’s the most beautiful and amazing dog I’ve ever seen in my life, he’s a king❤
You do NOT have to remove all of his gear. They can do a patdown on him once he clears the detector. That being said, my SD goes thru "naked" as well but I don't take off his bodysuit. It always puts a smile on the faces of the TSA agents when big fluffy service dogs pass thru. Most people don't realize how difficult it is to travel by plane with a SD. Like Magnus, my SD is a real showstopper but we just want to be ignored. If I had $5 for every photo taken of my dog in airports, I'd fly free for life 🤣🤣🤣 #IGNORETHEFLUFF
