I'm not sure where to leave this comment, but I feel the urge to express it somehow. SPOILERS
I'm so disappointed with this show. I love the concept of stalker movies/tv shows, but am constantly let down by how they portray the stalker. There was so much more to Jake (or could have been, if he hadn't killed his mom and instantly been written off as a villain. I don't really believe that a child having never witnessed murder or violence of that nature and who's not in a life threatening situation, would think to kill his own mother.) I understood the concept that his father killed his mother and therefore forever imprinted murder onto his mind. But why would he tell Lindy that his father killed her and then be so upset when she found out the truth? His entire mission was to get her to understand him. Why more lies at such a pivotal moment?
Jake just wanted to be loved - to love someone like his father and mother used to love each other. This is a noble cause in itself, but it got twisted. If he'd only realized that it's not outer perfection that matters most, but INNER beauty...he would have never sought Lindy out. She was such a bitch to him in the end with that stupid smirk of her's as she exposed him. I hated her more than I ever have in this show. She didn't even TRY to understand him. (Even though I believe that the writers made a big mistake in making him kill his mother.) I don't care that he was written off as being crazy like his parents. It wasn't a good choice to make him kill his mother like that. Lindy would have been the focus of his time in jail (if there was a season 2), and he never would have gotten over that betrayal. He would become more broken and insecure because of what she did. It's such a normal human desire to be loved and accepted. That's all he wanted. I wish he would have found the person who could do that for him, instead of seeking outer beauty and killing people when they don't match his standards. There's so much bitterness and anger inside him...if only he found a healthy outlet and a good person to love him.
Jake should have heeded his father's words in a different manner. He should have sought out the one by looking for someone who can understand or is at least willing to try. In the tv show Dexter, Dexter meets a woman who is a counselor for psychopaths. That's what Jake needed. Not necessarily a counselor, but someone who is willing to listen and take into account everything he's been though.
She should have realized it was him who was the killer. Because the killer didn't kill him, even after public displays of affection (which she should have known not to do in the first place, since even a one time date guy was killed in episode 1.)
I hoped this show would turn out better. I hoped the killer would find what he's looking for on a more emotional level. That would have been a better show. Lindy could have actually taken the time to understand him and given him what he needs as a human being. They truly could have been soul mates if she had a different personality and if he wasn't written off as the villain.
So glad they didn't just kill him, like in almost every crime show ever. There's more depth to these people than given credit for. When you only show the bad side...they're portrayed as a bad person. But everyone has a bad side and we are foolish to think we are better than anyone else.
