Oh man, I was thinking about this game today, thanks for posting this. I remember doing mail runs to Chelan amongst other cities, I would love to replicate these in MSFS
I bought the 1983 edition of SOLO FLIGHT for my Commodore 64 as a tape version from a flea market in Koivukylä, Vantaa (Finland 🇫🇮) this morning. Now, that was a rare flea market find 😺👍. And it only cost 2€. 😺👍🕹️
very much still a valid experience despite the slow frame update. The sensation of speed and weight is very present once you establish what you're looking at. The framerate actually is perfectly usable And the only sim to this day that has a mailrun aspect. Terrific sim still and one that teaches the use of vor for planning and straight out being lost in blind cloud. I still play this at least a couple times a year and this coming from a guy that hasthe latest Flight Sim on his Xbox series s. Thanks for vid
Yes I agree. It still holds up very well despite the obvious shortcomings on the visual side. There’s definitely something about this that has fans returning to it time and time again. Thanks for watching.
I had this as a kid (like 7th or 8th grade). I had no idea what I was doing or what VOR meant. I think I shelved it because it wasn't very fun for me. After high school I did enlist in the Navy & because a naval aircrewman on Lockheed P-3C Orion's & once I got out of the Navy I solo'd & had like 60 hrs. I scared myself though one time flying to Trenton, NJ by myself because I did a full approach to the wrong runway. I noticed the wrong # at the last minute & aborted & it was a controlled field so I felt like an ass. I had to make up a lie to the tower & said I had a malfunction light on and need to go around & try again. Then I landed on the right runway but it shook me up pretty good. After that I would just fly around my local airport or go to airports that were uncontrolled & I was comfortable in. After that life kicked in. I got hired at a company in Washington state & moved across country, married, kids etc. I feel like if todays GPS, glass displays were available in 1995 I would have really excelled. But for me, all the VOR/radial stuff was confusing. I didn't trust myself to do a cross country flight fearing I would get lost & panic. When I was living in Seattle an instructor friend took me on a demo flight in a Cirrus SR22. It was crazy inside with the glass displays & just putting in the airport identifier then watching yourself on the moving display and just following the line to get there. Big difference compared to the C-152 I learned in. I also had a demo flight in a Diamond airplane which was also fun. Great video btw & thanks for posting, cheers!
I spent hundreds of hours in this game doing mail runs.
