    I can confirm that hydrangeas are a pH sensitive flower and acid makes pink. Also, pretty sure your marigold + iron really is marigold. The green looks like what I'm familiar seeing with marigold + iron.

    I did enjoy it! It was interesting and fun! I’m thinking of messing with a few mini skeins. I don’t have much bare yarn but I have done very pale minis I’m willing to sacrifice. I have purple dahlias I want to try and a gorgeous red orange hibiscus. We’ll see. Thanks for all the info!! Take care of yourself and that baby!!! 🤗💕🤗

    Bella, love the results you got. I have so many black eyed susans in my yard. Going to load up a jar tonight. I hope I get the pinks.

      I have to be honest, I will be a little salty about it if you get greens or grays 😂 but if you want pinks, I hope you get some too!

    Cool experiment! If I had yard/garden (…space !!…) I’d be looking for veg matter to use & see what colors emerge! Enjoyed this !! Please keep us posted on any future dyeing endeavors!

      Not sure what sort of space your working with, but you might even be able to get results with a good sunny window! And as far as yards/gardens there are lots of kitchen scrap type ingredients you could try instead like onion skins of any color, red cabbage, avocado peels& pits, black beans, tumeric, tea & coffee...lots of options!

      Hmmm, you’re right! I’ve used tea dye on some crocheted doilies I made-forgot about that! Now you have me thinkin’…
      Space/sun (lack of direct) an issue. BUT I will try the hot water in a pan method. Turmeric ! Onion skins, beets… Thanks for better/ more ideas!
      Always wanted to Koolaid Dye…seeeee, you have me on a roll!!!

    I loved seeing your results! I think natural dyeing is fascinating. I have dyed yarn with eucalyptus in the past (currently working on a sweater with it) but I have been itching to try more things.

      Oooh eucalyptus is one I'd love to try! What color did that yield- pink?! 😂

      Thankfully not pink! I got some good orangey browns.

      How does plant dyed yarn hold it's color? Does it last once laundered?

  • @anndennis7163

    How long does the color last? Light fade? Washing?

    • @fiberandfox
      @fiberandfox  6 місяців тому +1

      Properly mordanted colors (& made with light fast pigments) should last a long time. But certain colors fade faster than others and are more sensitive to sunlight. You kinda have to go case by case as you choose dye materials.
