    Very cool! Ingenuous re-use of what would have been thrown out. Very impressive piece of work. I look forward to seeing your demonstration of this with a flare. When I was younger I liked to build all sorts of things, most of which either didn't work or caught on fire. Your horn is a pleasant contrast to my typical disastrous projects. Keep it up!

    Luke ... kudos kid! ... you really did it. Awesome horn. If I were to close my eyes while standing on the shore, I would swear an ocean liner was approaching the harbor. The video production was outstanding as well. Great format. I used to work with a production company and saw what worked and how to put it together. Great job. This will surely be a treat for all who watch. Keep up the great work my friend. ...Jay

    I made one similar but with 8' of tubing and attached it to a regular airpump like for tires, and it blasts loud and a deep sound that travels REALLY far.

      I've got a piece of polycarbonate in one I made. It's 4" and I have a 2" PVC pipe touching it. I can't get it to make a sound. Does the polycarbonate have to be slightly floating? Think a coin rattling in a cup holder as you drive. Or does it have to be sandwiched firmly around it's circumference?

      @@chrsrumbaugh yes, you have to adjust the distance between the diaphragm and the tube. It should just barely touch.

    Luke, you’re doing well so far. Add a 12’ tube, then find what you are calling “flare” (in fact it’s called a bell, because of its flared shape). There are all sorts of things you can use for your purpose, a funnel being one-off the cheapest and best. It will provide good amplification for your project, and should you decide no longer to use it, you could repurpose it as a tuba!

      You can use Fiberglass and mold it on. Douglas Smith did. Fits any.But a Leslie 300 is as loud as a locomotive. So the 3 to 2 inch reducer needs to be twice the diameter. 6 to 4 inches.

  • @roadlimoster

    u should try with a rear differential cap off a cars rear gear axel instead of that Jacuzzi part because that would be more readily available. and as a flare maybe a traffic cone

    • @LukeSantore
      @LukeSantore  10 років тому

      I've never come across one of those but if I do I'll take a look at it, and yeah a traffic cone is a good idea but it is rather flimsy and I'm not sure how it would handle sound amplification. But I might try that. Thanks!

    • @LukeSantore
      @LukeSantore  7 років тому +1

      No, this is a boat horn, not a train horn. I do not have a decibel meter, so I cannot answer that question. And I did not refer to the "black part" as a Jacuzzi pump unit, I said it came from a Jacuzzi pump unit. Obviously it is not a pump unit.

    wow.. thats great.. i bet you could make main bodies out of plastic closet flanges from the hardware store.. the flange that toilets mount to in the floor. perhaps a pair of them bolted together.. .. very cool.. very loud. there are also cast iron versions that have rubber sleeves that tighten with 3 bolts to pinch the pipe.. might be easier to mount to the pipe for adjustments and fine tuning.. www.homedepot.com/b/Plumbing-Pipes-Fittings-Valves-PVC-Pipe-Fittings-Fittings-Flanges/N-5yc1vZbuvl
    don't forget. there are also PVC and ABS pipe elbows.. so you could in theory create loops of tubing like a tuba out of plastic..
