This is what I love most about Gandalf. He’s easily one of the most ancient, powerful, and wisest beings in Middle Earth. But his favorite pastime is making fireworks to entertain common folk.

G E T R E K T 905 He probably became serious cause of *when* he became Gandalf the White and more, not to mention he was the only one among the five Istari who was doing what he was supposed to do in his mission for the Free People and Middle Earth. If Gandalf could, I'm sure he would have one last good time like when he was known as Gandalf the Grey

Exactly, I love that, too. Not only that, I also love the fact that we see him dancing with Hobbits, then later he's laughing has he grabs more fireworks to light up for the Hobbit children and others in Bilbo's name, his closest friend, if not one of them.
It's a shame he had to leave Middle Earth. Does anyone know if he had some kind of yearning to return from Valinor one day? I can imagine he did.

@Luc Germain The blue wizards did go to the east, but they were actively looking for sauron and putting down Melkor worship, if there was any. It seemed like radagast was doing nothing, but one of the valar wanted him there for a reason. It seemed like his job was more about protecting nature. After all, no one else was. It makes sense why he would, seeing how Sauron's evil can corrupt nature and the creatures that rely on it. Gandalf was just more active. I don't think any of them failed their mission except Saruman, since he was the leader and was the most powerful and supposedly the wisest, yet he betrays everyone to side with the enemy and then take the ring for himself. The other 4 wizards seemed to follow their mission, but they did it in different ways.

The ring takes a long time to take hold of it’s keeper on top of the fact that hobbits are the most resilient and noble race in relation to corruption. According to the book, Bilbo regarded Frodo as the best hobbit in existence, and Bilbo had a great respect for Frodo.

In the book, some of the presents he gave were snarky.
"'For ADELARD TOOK, for his VERY OWN, from Bilbo'; on an umbrella. Adelard had carried off many unlabelled ones.
"'For DORA BAGGINS in memory of a LONG correspondence, with love from Bilbo'; on a large waste-paper basket. Dora was Drogo’s sister and the eldest surviving female relative of Bilbo and Frodo; she was ninety-nine, and had written reams of good advice for more than half a century.
"'For MILO BURROWS, hoping it will be useful, from B.B.'; on a gold pen and ink-bottle. Milo never answered letters.
";For ANGELICA’S use, from Uncle Bilbo'; on a round convex mirror. She was a young Baggins, and too obviously considered her face shapely.
"'For the collection of HUGO BRACEGIRDLE, from a contributor'; on an (empty) book-case. Hugo was a great borrower of books, and worse than usual at returning them.
"'For LOBELIA SACKVILLE-BAGGINS, as a PRESENT'; on a case of silver spoons. Bilbo believed that she had acquired a good many of his spoons, while he was away on his former journey. Lobelia knew that quite well. When she arrived later in the day, she took the point at once, but she also took the spoons."

Sauron, many of the Elves, Dwarves they made some of the best magical enchanted weapons, armour and buildings to protect themselves they are no slouch in combat either.

We should accredit all the great work Christopher did for the world in further his father's creation, but not deify him as being more then human. He believed these movies utterly failed to capture the seriousness and splendor of Middle Earth instead capitalizing on it for commercial gain. His criticisms ring completely hollow, as he had already stated these opinions before the movie even began shooting and declined numerous offers to meet Peter Jackson over the years of production. Christopher really became Denethor in a way, a great man who believed he was the only person capable of stewarding the property at the expense of furthering the property.

What I love about this scene isn't just the fun of Gandalf and Bilbo but how it shows Sam's Growth as a character through the movie.
Here he's terrified of just LOOKING at the girl he likes and Frodo pushes him to her, and then at the end he sees her when he comes home and immediately gets up and talks to her. It's heartening to see how he's gone through so much and has finally reached the point where he can stand up and not be scared anymore.

I realize the significance of the Shire scenes (aside from world-building and just showing us the peace our heroes fight for later) is to also establish Frodo and Sam. Sam here is so nervous, shy and reserved. Frodo is cheerful and full of glee. When they return, Sam is bold enough to find love and run for mayor. Frodo on the other hand...

I never noticed how different saruman and gandalf were in their use of gunpowder.
While gandalf used the gunpowder for fireworks that could bring happiness and joy to people, saruman used the gunpowder to create machines of war and bombs to destroy and kill.

It’s really sad but Bilbo’s party and the Green Dragon was pretty much the last time Frodo seemed genuinely happy until the end. He really was forced to hit the ground running :(

1:19 Bilbo is reading a chapter to the young hobbits about the day three transient trolls tried to eat him, Balin, and Filli and Killi for dinner. what happened was the trolls rustled his horses Filli and Killi and Balin were on watch and they sent Bilbo in to steal the horses back. Bilbo got caught and those stinking trolls hung him upside down. for six hours they argued their soup got cold and they argued over on how they were going to cook Bilbo, Balin, and Filli and Killi. as they were arguing the sun came out and they never saw their cave again because once sun hits a troll they turn to rocks.

It's nice to see all the references to the Hobbit in the Lord of the Rings. I love the scene of Bilbo telling stories of his adventures, years before we'd ever get to see them in film.

I love how, immediately after the point where this video ends, the movie cuts to a scene of Merry and Pippin washing dishes, as Gandalf stands watch over them glaring down.
