@@markfrederick5012 you need to run Windows Update first for 8.1 and install all of them, plus CS 1.3 runs on older version of Goldsrc game engine which only works properly with WinXP and earlier, running older CS with modern version requires high priority on task manager or it may slow down randomly. Also CS 1.6 is the actual last version. Win 8.1 is good for gaming but lacked modern games compability, such as DX12 support, which Win7 had it in 2019 with limited amount of games and update.
Not trying to bring down your benchmarks here, but i feel the correct way to do these tests is NOT with a freshly installed OS but with a stripped down and optimised (as much as you can!) OS. The difference between a stock OS and an optimised one is staggering. I do myself have a main Windows 7 installation, suuuper clean and optimised, and as i had to install Windows 10 (LTSC) in another drive to be able to play Hogwarts Legacy, i'm working on stripping down and optimising that OS too. It's a work in progress, but from the very start i've been cleaning its garbage, for example: instead of using the stock W10 LTSC iso, i've used NTLite to remove Windows Defender and other crap out off the iso. I can tell you that, first of all, both take very little time to boot, almost identical. I can understand W7 booting slow in your test due to the HDD, but there's no way LTSC is so far away from 7. Like, your LTSC may have some serious crap starting at startup, or unoptimised drivers. Secondly i want to state that W7 is still my favorite between the two, always feeling more snappy, responsive. In the end, i will be using W7 99% of the time, due to my audio usb interface not having proper drivers for W10 (I use the pc mainly for audio purposes), but other than that (for example, if i had a more recent audio interface with good W10 support), i think the performance is fairly similar between the two, if these two are properly optimised.
Thanks this is a valuable comment for me choosing between W7 and 10 to run Adobe Premiere 2018 CC on an Asus i7 16Gb RAM. Still looking into it. I myself initially inclined more toward W7. The laptop itself produced to run W8(.1)
@@Intourist. Sadly Windows 7 gets more and more unsupported with time. I do use Sony Vegas a little, and while its version 17 works fine, new released audio plugins do not, so i'm missing godly plugins like Goyo. Also, encoding in Vegas using NVENC to take advantage of my graphics card, is not possible with the latest compatible drivers for W7. I will be moving to W10 completely at some point, i don't like it a single bit, but i have optimized it well.
These differences are negligible. The reason for people still using Windows 7 is not really the speed, they actually want to avoid MS spying, and want better stability of OS.
I assume this was a mechanical HDD? I've got a Rufus USB ready with LTSC and am a bit uneasy still to make the jump to install. But my testing in vbox suggests that it will be incredibly fast on NVME when directly installed. I managed to get MS Store working in the VM, this is because I want to game. I'm pretty good with a command prompt and okay with PowerShell as long as I have the web for searching. I assume I'll probably be fine.
this proves nothing it depends on the hardware and how your hardware is most compatible with the os , but LTSC gives you at least 5% boost in any game.
You should have updated all your drivers using some Driver update utility like IOBits's Driver Booster or something like that. That would have eliminated the difference in performance caused by different version of drivers.
I'm on Windows 10 LTSC 2019 and it takes nowhere near that long to boot, under 20 seconds in most cases. Windows 7 on the other hand, in my personal experience, takes over 2 minutes.
you have a lame install setup then and are also going to be using "fast boot" for w10 which isnt even a clean boot.. it a fake boot similar to hibernation so ffs.. for your own safety.. disable that and optimize a proper boot!

Oh and fyi.. I did the same tests here on 3 diff systems before only with "optimized" install tweaks applied to actually make each system perform their best and I was able to get w7 to be the fastest boot constantly.
