Then he beat Rick "rick roll" Astley to number 1 in album sales last year. Plan B another band. And the RENAISSANCE, is here, now. Ren has started somethjng unstoppable. His story is amazing, keep learrning guys!
According to Ren, the split with Sony was amicable on both sides. He wasn't "dropped". It just didn't work out. They even let him have the rights to keep music as his own that they didn't have to. He sounded like he was OK with the split even though he was obviously gutted over having to end it due to his failing health.
I'm sure this has been said many times but this video is a live one shot. They shot it a few times (4?) and picked the best video/audio for the video. He does a lot of his videos as live one takes. I said this on your Beat Down reaction, Ren has such an eclectic catalogue of music, he is truly a genre crossing and genre bending artist. He can act, sing, rap, play multiple instruments and he is self taught in almost all of it. Ren is a once in a generation talent. You guys will be blown away with every new song, so many change ups and style differences from one to another.. I don't even want to recommend a song because he has so many amazing songs, I don't feel right only listing one or 2 songs. Check out "The Big Push - I Shot The Sheriff/Road To Zion" cover for an amazing live song. The Big Push is his busking band.

Great reaction video. I'm an 80s metal, 90s grunge kind of guy so I haven't listened to a lot of rap and I'm probably not the target audience anyway. You will find, reading the comments, that Ren's fans cover the whole demographic spectrum. All ages, all races, all sexes, all religions, all political identities, all musical genres and tastes. From old folks that strictly listen to country to kids into death metal or rap or reggae. Being authentic and vulnerable connects with people and Ren has connected with a lot. These people call themselves the Renegades.
You guys did really well with the interpretation and discussion. Thanks to Link for remembering to pause. You should also go back 5-10 seconds after pausing so you don't miss things when doing reactions, too - you did miss a couple lines I think would've resonated. Ren came up busking (street performing) and there is a ton of great content available from most of those years. Everything he touched turned to gold, whether it was solo, with his really talented friends like Sam Tompkins (Ren helped him get started busking at 16 and last year he opened for Bieber in the UK) or with his band, The Big Push. But as wild as his fanbase was considering what he was working with, he didn't blow up until around a year and a half ago and that was on UA-cam - largely due to the reaction community. If you check out reactors like Knox Hill, Black Pegasus, CliffBeats, AR, etc you'll see 50-100+ reactions each to all things Ren. They believed in him and made sure he was pushed to their audiences. BP compared it to being on an old school street teM handing out fliers. Ren made sure it was a symbiotic relationship, letting reactors monetize and giving interviews with even moderately sized channels (I think BP was at 100k-ish at the time, he gives all the love to Ren for him get traction). But reactors, aside, y'all hit the nail on the head with Ren's opening himself to be so personal and raw - a LOT of his ride or die fans are people he's giving a voice to... those with their own struggles with various illnesses or feelings of hopelessness. Some people call him a UA-cam artist but he's so much more than that. He has not called anything "Renaissance" as far as I know... but he does refer to his storytelling songs as "Bardcore". He has more that are really thought provoking, but I'm sure you've been told ad nauseum that's not all he is, either. He storytells, he rap raps - with bars, punchlines, double and triple time, complex rhymeschemes, everything. But he also sings in many genres and plays something like 7 instruments. Produces beats, produces his own work... he even edits most of his own videos. I recommend Sick Boi and the Money Game trilogy to finish putting the Kujo Beat Down into context. The Hunger, Genesis and the lyric videos for Seven Sins and Wicked Ways for rap. Losing it is a fun rap over an EDM beat. Back In 74, Chalk Outlines or anything from The Big Push for singing. Personal Big Push favorites are Sweet Little Lady, Bongo Bong and What Kind Of Woman Is This? for actual videos and the I Shot The Sheriff/Road To Zion/Hip Hop mashup for busking. I also really love the acoustic version of Blind Eyed with Sam Tompkins (The MC filming is best) or their busking videos.

For me I found the courage to write an understanding letter to the nurse who found my godchild after she commited suicide in a mental institution. That letter gave me closure.. I'm in the last weeks of my life, waiting for approval for euthenesia, and my funeral has already been written down. I watched it later, as promised, and it was definitely a 🔥 reaction! A lot of musicians, rappers, filmmakers have been inspired by his creativity, and I'm a visual artist who has been inspired by him also. When you mentioned how he connects with his audience in a personal way, he developed a lot of that with his busking (street performances), which he did for years. Amazingly, that's how he paid his rent!
You guys had some good insights, especially at the end when you reflect on your own lives. Ren is so authentic in every single musical choice he makes (even going back to baby Ren) and his every action radiates a deep integrity which is evident if you pay even the slightest attention... that's the power of Ren. That is what speaks to such a wide ranging audience. He makes an honest connection to his audience and that is a worthy goal for you or any other artist out there.

So finally come to watching this. Being himself is something that got me looking more into his stuff. What kept me was his raw talent and his character that shows through through all of his songs. I will leave some more suggestions: If you want more of his acting, you should definitely look into the 3 songs of the tale of Jenny and Screech If you want more of his emotional and vulnerable side I can suggest Freckled angels and For Joe. Warning though: These songs always get tears in my eyes and I'm normally not the emotional guy.

A lot of Renegadeswill send you all sorts of places next, but I suggest a previous viral video. Blind Eyed by Ren and Sam Tompkins. I’m not sure which of the several street busking videos was the viral one, but it was followed by an official video with a plot, and a studio session video, and finally one they attempted in a car park but they were kicked out and made it work for them. Any of these are worthwhile, but save the ‘Angry Car Park Attendant’ until after you’ve seen at least one of the others. Sam Tompkins has since gone on to open for Justin Beiber and then get a contract and is on tour, including some dates in the US.

According to Ren, the split with Sony was amicable on both sides. He wasn't "dropped". It just didn't work out. They even let him have the rights to keep music as his own that they didn't have to. He sounded like he was OK with the split even though he was obviously gutted over having to end it due to his failing health.

I'm sure this has been said many times but this video is a live one shot. They shot it a few times (4?) and picked the best video/audio for the video. He does a lot of his videos as live one takes.
I said this on your Beat Down reaction, Ren has such an eclectic catalogue of music, he is truly a genre crossing and genre bending artist. He can act, sing, rap, play multiple instruments and he is self taught in almost all of it. Ren is a once in a generation talent. You guys will be blown away with every new song, so many change ups and style differences from one to another..
I don't even want to recommend a song because he has so many amazing songs, I don't feel right only listing one or 2 songs.

Great reaction video. I'm an 80s metal, 90s grunge kind of guy so I haven't listened to a lot of rap and I'm probably not the target audience anyway. You will find, reading the comments, that Ren's fans cover the whole demographic spectrum. All ages, all races, all sexes, all religions, all political identities, all musical genres and tastes. From old folks that strictly listen to country to kids into death metal or rap or reggae. Being authentic and vulnerable connects with people and Ren has connected with a lot. These people call themselves the Renegades.

Ren came up busking (street performing) and there is a ton of great content available from most of those years. Everything he touched turned to gold, whether it was solo, with his really talented friends like Sam Tompkins (Ren helped him get started busking at 16 and last year he opened for Bieber in the UK) or with his band, The Big Push. But as wild as his fanbase was considering what he was working with, he didn't blow up until around a year and a half ago and that was on UA-cam - largely due to the reaction community. If you check out reactors like Knox Hill, Black Pegasus, CliffBeats, AR, etc you'll see 50-100+ reactions each to all things Ren. They believed in him and made sure he was pushed to their audiences. BP compared it to being on an old school street teM handing out fliers. Ren made sure it was a symbiotic relationship, letting reactors monetize and giving interviews with even moderately sized channels (I think BP was at 100k-ish at the time, he gives all the love to Ren for him get traction). But reactors, aside, y'all hit the nail on the head with Ren's opening himself to be so personal and raw - a LOT of his ride or die fans are people he's giving a voice to... those with their own struggles with various illnesses or feelings of hopelessness. Some people call him a UA-cam artist but he's so much more than that.
He has not called anything "Renaissance" as far as I know... but he does refer to his storytelling songs as "Bardcore". He has more that are really thought provoking, but I'm sure you've been told ad nauseum that's not all he is, either. He storytells, he rap raps - with bars, punchlines, double and triple time, complex rhymeschemes, everything. But he also sings in many genres and plays something like 7 instruments. Produces beats, produces his own work... he even edits most of his own videos.
I recommend Sick Boi and the Money Game trilogy to finish putting the Kujo Beat Down into context. The Hunger, Genesis and the lyric videos for Seven Sins and Wicked Ways for rap. Losing it is a fun rap over an EDM beat. Back In 74, Chalk Outlines or anything from The Big Push for singing. Personal Big Push favorites are Sweet Little Lady, Bongo Bong and What Kind Of Woman Is This? for actual videos and the I Shot The Sheriff/Road To Zion/Hip Hop mashup for busking. I also really love the acoustic version of Blind Eyed with Sam Tompkins (The MC filming is best) or their busking videos.

For me I found the courage to write an understanding letter to the nurse who found my godchild after she commited suicide in a mental institution. That letter gave me closure.. I'm in the last weeks of my life, waiting for approval for euthenesia, and my funeral has already been written down. The last song will be back on 74 by Ren....and for my family I have "a message in a bottle ".

I watched it later, as promised, and it was definitely a 🔥 reaction! A lot of musicians, rappers, filmmakers have been inspired by his creativity, and I'm a visual artist who has been inspired by him also. When you mentioned how he connects with his audience in a personal way, he developed a lot of that with his busking (street performances), which he did for years. Amazingly, that's how he paid his rent!
You guys had some good insights, especially at the end when you reflect on your own lives. Ren is so authentic in every single musical choice he makes (even going back to baby Ren) and his every action radiates a deep integrity which is evident if you pay even the slightest attention... that's the power of Ren. That is what speaks to such a wide ranging audience. He makes an honest connection to his audience and that is a worthy goal for you or any other artist out there.

Most of his videos are done in single take (live) formats. This song took them 4 tries to get a good take, there were 4 cameras. 3 static, 1 handheld (used at the end). Money Game 1 took over 180 takes to get the one they used.
Ren is one of a kind. This was one take and live. For me, it was hard to watch because frequently the box with you guys in it would get big and cover Ren. Good reaction. I recommend pausing when you talk, I think you would enjoy the video more. Liked your insights. Looking forward to your next Ren reaction.

A lot of Renegadeswill send you all sorts of places next, but I suggest a previous viral video. Blind Eyed by Ren and Sam Tompkins. I’m not sure which of the several street busking videos was the viral one, but it was followed by an official video with a plot, and a studio session video, and finally one they attempted in a car park but they were kicked out and made it work for them. Any of these are worthwhile, but save the ‘Angry Car Park Attendant’ until after you’ve seen at least one of the others.
Sam Tompkins has since gone on to open for Justin Beiber and then get a contract and is on tour, including some dates in the US.
