These videos are so cool. Really nice shots, sympathetic people, tidy video editing. Watching everything.
Best wishes from Germany, will probably take another decade until we return, good thing to know there are people with knowledge just around the corner
Return to what mate? If you mean to prominence, you're at the top of the pile in Europe.
@@NTL578 Return to nuclear power. In my opinion we had too much prominence in the past decades, didn't do us any good.
@followthescience5571 I see. Yeah we all de nuclearised and it's put us all in a huge energy crisis.
Regarding the prominence, it seems that Brits and Germans are suffering a crisis of confidence, but both need to keep pushing forward and remember the standards that we do have. You've got the highest average GDP and living standards in Europe, so by definition, the world. It's easy to forget that.
Stay strong my German brother.
Short, and very informative. For a change.
The current technology was designed more than 20 years ago. EDF needs to introduce automation technology as soon as possible and design a higher-power, high-efficiency reactor to make the project more efficient, faster, and save labor costs.
Now retired but having worked on the SZB plant from construction and its first eight years operation (when I retired) it's awesome to see the HNK progress.
I just wish EdF would get SZC going but we have so many NIMBYs around here.
Fantastic achievement, well done to all, what a joy to see nuclear professionals leading the way.
"When everyone pulls towards a common goal, we can do amazing things."
As an engineer so prooud to see this and even more proud so many awesome female engineers having a leading role ❤
brilliant, great film and thanks for sharing
Taking into account 50 years of future inflation and looking at Sellafield, the cost for decomissioning this plant will probably be around £200-300 billion.
Sellafield dismantling cost in 2024 - £121 billion
And your point being what exactly?
Fantastic achievement for all concerned management and the hard workers on the ground well done
Bravo aux équipes.
Good job.
Bon travail.
If you can fix a bike, you can fix a car, if you can fix a car then you can service a 200,000 tonne tokomak nuclear reactor!
Tokamaks are not nuclear but plasma.
@@simsnqtaAnd the plasma contains….nuclei.
So there’s somethin’ nuclear about it after all ?😉
@@simsnqta
Let's start with the fact that TAKAMAKIs are "thermonuclear", not "nuclear".
Magnificent!
Thank you for sharing this is a major achievement. Can you share if you are ok schedule and what the overall status of the budget next time please?
wow wee 😮❤
Groovy. No propellor shafts were used in the making of this plant.
Congrats to all the team. There are the first bricks of a big European nuclear fleet.
Yeah, let's look forward to enjoy the thrill and excitement of all those people on the day this dome lifts itself several hundred feet into the air while a phantastic boom brings happiness and a radiant smile into the face of all bystanders and the surroundings of Hinkley Point become a very quiet and nature-friendly environment for next couple of million years.
*The forecast costs exploded to £25-26 billion.*
*Due to the inflation-adjusted electricity price, this is expected to be over £ 0,13/kWh.*
So what is your lower cost alternative?
@@1chish Any other. E.g. wind, solar power etc
@@michaelvanallen6400 Yes I thought they would be your 'go to' solutions. The problem with this Green Party policy is that we need a bedrock of permanent on stream power. It used to be coal, then gas, then nuclear.
You seem to be happy that if the wind stops during the night the lights and everything else go off. Let alone the huge expanse of sea to position thousands of turbines and the hundreds of acres of land for solar panels that would be more useful producing food.
Sorry but that is not a solution. Its an excellent added power option.
Just when & HOW were the cooling tunnels connected??
How much does dome weigh
Great work and a great milestone to achieve in 2023! Moving towards a low carbon future 🎉
👏👏👏👏😊
❤
She was happy seeing the Dome on the top !!!
Thats how to build something properly. Not ya poxy hs2 train line that you couldn’t even finish building. Outstanding achievement well done Hinckley point c 💪
Please finish the work on time and don't let the supervisory authorities act like idiots and deliberately use excuses to delay the construction.
Just how long is the half-life of the waste products of these machines?
Bloomberg: "EDF’s UK Hinkley Nuclear Costs Balloon as Plant Delayed Anew
*Station could cost as much as £10 billion more than planned*
Unit 1 may not start until 2031 in a worst case scenario"
If only the project kept to the budget and timescale. Now UK is trapped paying way overpriced electric in future from this project
Can I come and Work there from România?
I rate this installation 3.6.
So nice to see what the UK can achieve when lead by the French.
Is it possible to exchange the inner vessel after 50 years and use the containment over centuries ?
Yes, the only thing really that will need to be replaced is the steam generators.
it is possible, but it doesn't make sense. It is designed to last 60 years, meaning that could go easily to 80-90. After almost a century you can replace it and go on for another century, but the technology of the rest of the plant will be obsolete.
@@lorenziellThe reactors build from 1970 - 1990 are said to have a life span of 40-50 years. This is a problem for France, because they must retire this power plants now. In Germany the last six reactors are build around 1990 and could be run until 2040. But they should become now dismantled on order of Green Party. Better to use coal ore any chinese stuff instead of using domestic facilities to life end (German Madness). The EPR is designed for 60 years and may reach 80 - 90 years operation time ? Replacing the inner circuit could give 150 years live span ? This is meaningful, because the containment of the EPR is said to be the safest design ever realized. But very expensive. So long live time can dilute the fairly high construction costs.
@@wolfgangrenner4152 Like most PWRs (with good maintenance) could last 100 years+. The RPV could always be life extended with Annealing and re-embrittlement of reactor pressure vessel, that can add many decades, each time. The only real replacement needed is the steam generators that weaken and leak. However that’s been done many times and been proven to be cost effective to replace after 30 years.
@@evbear561What is "reembrittelment". For example the ReactorPressureVessel of our Grohnde AKW was etched inside for dismantleling. But is this etching the same as "reembrittlement". The conservative parties want to restart the six newest AKW in Germany if they are elected in 2025. Could it be possible to repair an half demolished modernen PWR ? --- You say, a modern PWR can be run for 100 years with appropriate maintainance. But Most PWR in West Europe Holland, Belgium, France, Spain are declared ripe for retirement after 40 - 50 years usage. And this because of technical issues and not because of any political decisions.
Not only the post office. EDF have twice on the last year not credited my accounts with payments made. Also they keep changing the amounts owed - even greatly. Their foreign call centre is absolutely useless except that they take the payments from my bank account - but it isn't credited on the next bills. I can't be the only one this is happening to. I pay over the phone not by direct debit. Probably other energy companies also.
Let’s see if it actually works and generate electricity…
And how much Chinese money is in this?
Run by EDF which is a French company.
Such a shame considering Britain led the world in Nuclear technology at one time, it’s such a shame that we can’t do it ourselves as a country.
Yup!
Ah there you are. Had to scroll a bit to find the moaner.
@@tdolan500 The realist
@@tdolan500 But he's right. This is being touted as a fantastic UK infrastructure project and those who lack the ability to think critically actually believe this will have some positive bearing on their energy bills? It won't, it actually ties a noose around the neck of every household in the UK. Unfortunately what the UK government doesn't like to scream from the rooftops is that nuclear site, which is likely to be obsolete by the time it's actually finished, is 66.5% owned by EDF, a French state-owned energy corporation, and 33.5% owned by CGN, a Chinese state-owned corporation. So yeah, our bills will remain in the stratosphere, and all profits will be heading straight to the French and Chinese. The following taken from a Guardian investigation into the terrible deal UK citizens were dealt with this monstrosity -
- According to Gérard Magnin, a former EDF director, the French company sees Hinkley as “a way to make the British fund the renaissance of nuclear in France”. He added: “We cannot be sure that in 2060 or 2065, British pensioners, who are currently at school, will not still be paying for the advancement of the nuclear industry in France.”
- Others have pointed to the cost. At present, the estimated total bill for Hinkley Point C is £20.3bn, more than twice the London Olympics. To pay for it, the British government has entered into a complex financial agreement with Électricité de France (EDF), the energy giant that is 83% owned by the French government, and China General Nuclear Power Group (CGN), a state-run Chinese energy company. Under this contract, British electricity consumers will pay billions over a 35-year period.
Sounds fantastic, right 👍🏻

About the post office. Rothschild-Sunak's father in law is a partner in Infosys, which is a partner in Fujitsu.
Software does as it's programmed to do. We all know that. So what does this say about EDF software?
My friend dog watching this he loves engineering got any jobs for him
At least it's not 30 yrs away. 🤐
Not long left for unit 1, 3years ish
🤣
It’s just a pity that the reactor parts were not made in England but France.
Why is it a pity? We sell stuff to the French. They sell stuff to us. Trade is good. We can’t all be the best at everything.
In China.
@@user-qm7ii8fq9e
The life of current water reactors I’d being extended but I have a question which is why can’t. We decommission the reactors and replace with new ones instead of decommissioning the whole plant surly it would be far cheaper. What is the hold up on SMR projects we could be up and running if we used the old Wyfa plant in wales. The reactors could be made by RR with parts from Sheffield Forgemasters could even weld together with the fusion welding method.
My point was the water reactor parts can be made at Sheffield Forgemasters and not relying on Areva/Framatone ie all owned financially by the French government.
Nuclear should not be such a big deal to be put together. There are much simple less spectacular ways to do nuclear. This is how we need to do nuclear in the future. Building a nuclear plant needs to be no more spectacular then building a new house.
Doesn't work like that
Maybe one day, but not currently. Rolls Royce are working on a modular nuclear power plant (470Mw) that may only need a building the size of a large house, but they are still in the early stages of feasibility studies. However RR has already signed an agreement to supply NASA with one for their planned manned moon station. Presuming they can get it to work first, and then find a way to blast it 250K miles into space at an affordable cost! Plus we also have to get back to the moon first as well. So don't hold your breathe, realistically on the timescales we are talking, WW3 plus the socio-economic climate change induced collapse of human civilisation will likely happen first!
The USA should get moving and build these plants as well. The environmentalists trashed them decades ago, and now they support them. NEVER listen to these people.
All owned by the French
Soundbite bollox. Sort your production out.
Huge shame the French government own part of it
And what ? we are not ennemies lol.
2123 the great clean costs are not forthcoming due to financial crisis in the climate catastrophe and the area will have to be evacuated.

most over budget over due waste of money like hs2. national grid has to keep paying industrial plants to keep boilers, kilns amd smelts on as too much electricity in the grid.
I use next to no electricity from the grid £18k of solar and battery storage at home literally just the standing charge i pay just incase i need it in a emergency
The majority of Frances energy is derived from Nuclear power, they must be really dumb, right?
Problem is society is so dumbed down with how the world works that many would have a meltdown (pun intended) if they can't run their tumble dryer when they want to to (even if the sun is out) 🙄 So everyone has to pay for a massive baseload capacity...just in case everyone decides to put their (unnecessarily full) kettle on at the same time....
Do you get paid by the Chinese to post stupid lies online?

Too many women working on this construction - I predict reactor meltdown within 5 years after it is finished.
Maybe you could volunteer to do an inspection of inside the core once it's gone critical just to make sure it's all legit?
