Swimming is such a mental sport. More so than all others because you don’t have your teammates to help you get through. I’ve played and done many sports in my time, and they’re all difficult in their own ways. But in each one, your teammates can push you to keep going in a workout. But with swim, it’s only you. Your teammate can’t tell you to keep going and support you in the middle of a hard set. You have to push through on your own. It is up to you. Its so much harder to rely on yourself to get through these things. Which is why swimming is the hardest sport by far
Your not kidding I'm at the beginning of my swimming journey. I have had 4 lessons so far and at the age of 59 it's possibly even harder. So I shall stick at it. I wonder why it is only since I was on My summer holiday in August with family. That I decided to take swimming seriously.
ikr, i watched a third of the video and my skin is fucking peeling off from how edgy they're trying to be, what even is the point of this video? are people who swim somehow oppressed and in need to send a letter to """"""""""""""normal""""""""""""" people?
Your not kidding about swimming Being so mentally and physically Draining. I'm 59 and just starting my swimming journey. I have just had 4 lessons so far I shall stick at it.
Amadeus Bellenger I really enjoy the workout, community, and overall feeling of it, but the older I get, the more competitive it gets and it really loses the whole feel for it
Well you see, if a video pops up on my recommended, I'm usually inclined to watch it. If it's bad content, I will shit on it so that more bad content isn't made and shared around. I see that as a fair personal system.
2:05 but i do get it, im not a swimmer but im a martial artist and i feel the same way, everything i do including swiming is to get better at martial arts, im always hungry and people don't understand why i do the things i do, our passions might be different but our hearts are the same, in martial arts we call the action of devoting our heart to the perfection of our skills "budo" to that end, we are the same. cheers
I was kind of kidding. I think our society is slowing moving beyond the impression of what is and isn't normal. It's an important step for everyone. I support your video and the message it provides.
Yesterday, some kids wanted to challenge me to a race. I told them "It wouldn't be a good idea to race me, I'm just too good". They insisted. I didn't want to destroy them in a race, so I pretty much said "This is why we can't race against each other". Then I gunned it to the opposite end of the pool while they were just looking at me, with awe. I probably did a 15:02 on the 25 meter. Not my fastest, but a pretty good time.
Something similar happened to me when I went to Italy with school. 4 of my friends wanted to race so I did a 200 and they did a 4 x 25 relay and I still beat them. They didn’t want another race after that 😢
Why is everyone so butthurt in the comments? This video is not directed at you. It is directed at all non high performance athletes and people that disrespect high performance athletes. As someone who also is a high performance athlete, I understand why he has made this video. Many people just don’t seem to understand the amount of hours and the level of effort it takes to perform at a high level. We aren’t doing it just for “fun” anymore. We have ambitions and goals within our sport and spend countless hours trying to achieve them. He’s not saying he’s better than you, or that he’s something innately special, but what he is doing is quite amazing. To dedicate so much of your life and so much of your resources to a sport and for it to mean the world to you is not common, and many people fail to realize what goes into becoming a pro. I have played at high levels in both team sports and individual sports and they are insanely different. They both take a lot of effort and time, but the culture and the training are of two different worlds. For people to be coming at him saying “you’re not special” or “you are just like any other athlete” is so disrespectful and completely incorrect, and proves his point that people are completely missing out on what it means to make a sport your life, or even any passion your life. He’s not bragging or showing off or looking down on others. He’s merely trying to shed some light in his sport and what it takes to do it since many are ignorant of the facts. Swimmers train individually 24/7. There is no one to fall back on, the results depend fully on you. If someone made a track video like this I feel as if people would not be so offended, but for some reason swimming seems to be hated by the general public. Great video man, I really appreciate your insight and I can see why you get frustrated. Cheers
I'm a swimmer I completely understand. I'm not an Olympic swimmer or anything like that I just really love to swim. I've chosen to move to Florida and leave all my friends just to swim everyday. I know what you're thinking that's kinda heartless, but it's not, friends come and go some stay but most leave once your an adult. I want to be an Olympic swimmer but I don't think I'm quite there yet. I don't just want to move to Florida so I can swim all the time, I want to move there so I can explore more places. I've seen most of where I live and my health will be better if I'm in an area that is warm all the time. Well that's all for my life story.
Thanks for sharing! You are absolutely right. Plus you will make new friends there and get to keep the best from back home. Same thing happened to me but I moved to Ohio. So reversed weather wise. Anyway keep at it. I’ll see you in the olympics (on Tv because I missed my shot)
This is straight up my life. I get up at 5am to go to the pool before school starts at 7:30. Everyone always asks me why I always have trouble hearing sometimes, why I have so many snacks, and why I am always tired. Other people will say, “I had to get up at 5:30 this morning because my dad wanted to leave early.” My response is always. I got up a 5 am after my cat woke me up 30 min before and worked out in the pool for 40-60 min and then got ready in 30 min and got to school 5 min before the final bell rang. I have you beet
Chad Vilchez If you knew any real swimmers, you wouldn’t be talking crap about our lifestyle. Also, if you are smart, you would know that chlorine doesn’t come in balls. It is a liquid. Have you ever been to any science class in the history of the world. One last thing. If you don’t like something someone mentioned, don’t say anything. You don’t actually hurt people by calling them names when you probably sit on your fat ass all day watching Netflix. And for your information, my ass is great. Now get a life and grow up
Chad Vilchez at least she has an ass. What do you have? What do you do? Spend your time cursing out on someone? Look at you, cursing like a big boy (sarcasm) you sound pathetic, probably a 12 year old -_-
To help some of y'all understand, swimming is one of those sports where it's not fun, but enjoyable. Other sports like football or basketball or baseball or softball or volleyball or soccer or handball or even chess to name a few are all games, they are fun to do. We as swimmers do not have games, it's more like running/track and field, it is a mode of transportation. We go to meets, not games, and we can be dequed, or our time will become invalid over taking a breath, so you can imagine how different it is. Not to mention swimming is a year round sport where as other sports usually have seasons.
Me too!! I get up at 4:15 excited to do my intense workout before the commute back to work. My best (although tough!) part of the day is the swim practice. I love the smell of chlorine!!
I’m no swimmer, but I’m a track athlete. But I feel like every point in this video can be applied to track and field. Aquatics and athletics are so similar in that theyre both individual based sports, are a lot harder than people think, and both test the limits of human ability.
I mean it's cool but it's pretty patronizing the way you worded everything. "Normal people?" is pretty vague, just because you're a swimmer doesn't make you abnormal, just because someone paints, plays an instrument, works on cars, or rescues animals doesn't make them special because of their passion. I mean it's cool you're a great swimmer and all, but it's silly to think that someone who doesn't dedicate their life to swimming wouldn't understand it.
by "normal" he's kind of saying swimming makes you feel like you're amphibious and you're equally at home in the water or even better adaptes to the water - walking on dry land is possible but not optimal
Just want to say: BIG thank you. Last march I couldn't swim. At all. But because L5S1 I have to swim to improve my condition. So I went to youtube and remember the first video that got me to today is yours: smooth freestyle. So then I bought center snorkel. I put 4-5 days a month and force myself to fear of water. Started to put 4-5 days a week last July and went from 9mins/100m to 4mins/100m, 1000m last september. Then I decided to brace it and learn breathing. Drank so much of chlorine water. But today I got 1:50/100m without snorkel with reduced distance around 300m each session (tired arms). Will have to build endurance with breathing, so much to learn yet. So excited with how I manage my back condition, and looking back this year is a good year for me. Personnal achievement. Again, thank you.
50 meters freestyle - 35 sec 50 meters butterfly - 40 sec 50 meters breaststroke - 35 sec 50 meters backstroke - pain in the ass i cant do it Im a competitive swimmer and thats my record and yes swimmers are always hungry cause i eat 5 times a day
I was never good enough for the swim team. I tried out last year in freshman year and I ran out of breath after two laps, plus I never learned how to learn butterfly
Caroline B. Just practice. A freshmen on my football team is going to state meets, and still to the weight room every day working at it in the weight room.
I found your letter inspiring,as I have recently started swimming because of a trip to the Bahamas to go snorkeling,I remembered the last time I was active in snorkeling I would tire easily. So I watched so vids, and started practicing learning strokes and such.Im 44 and sometimes I feel foolish as I look like a fish out of water, and seeing actual swimmers swim I really feel it.But when I'm done flailing I do feel the workout and I SEE results if the last few weeks,so that motivated me to get a powerbreather by ameo and that is such a help since I'm not a strong swimmer yet I experience issues with keeping my head up. Your letter speaks to the guy that LOVES the water and lives in Florida, but spent years being lazy and not active. Thanks for your words and your spirit. You gained a sub and I will put your vids to good use
''Go to the pool too test my limits of my mind and body'' then wtf do you think other people do in other sports ? dumbest thing ive ever heard in 2018.
Ahmy4k Not truly i mean you are but when your swimming your going out of your comfort zone as in not yours particularly but a humans comfort-zone humans are made to be on land not in the water we r not fish therefore your going out of your comfort zone
Why don’t people get the point of this video? It’s supposed to reach out to the swimmers watching it. It’s supposed to highlight what a wonderful thing it is to be a swimmer in the swimming community. It’s supposed to be sarcastic and quirky for a reason.
I have been swimming competitively for all my life and now I am struggling to keep at it as school is kinda taking over any after watching all of your videos it makes me want to continue thanks a lot
I loved this video so much, especially the way you get out of the pool 0:09 LOL :D I'm not a passionate swimmer but I do love going for a swim once in a while. You guys seem to be having a lot of fun though
The part about hungry really relates to a construction worker in winter. Constant physical work combined with the body trying to create heat at 20 degrees really burns through the calories. Why am I even on here I go in a pool I'm not getting out 😂
Skills NT yep that's construction in winter especially Roofing so we get hit by the heat cold winds rain I spend more hours on a roof than anywhere else maybe even 14 hours but rarely that's when it hails and work is insane I'm in Colorado
I learn to swim when i am 34 yrs old lol. Now i am 37 years old and know how to swim breastroke and freestyle and now learning butterfly. Now i love to swim :)
I’m a dancer, and I have a similar lifestyle. I go to my studio at 11:00 each day, and train for around 4-6 hours. I don’t have many friends, but that’s the price a have to pay for Dance!
lol i thought it was just me. im not really a swimmer, im 33 and i just picked up swimming 4 months ago. i swim alone too, here in saudi arabia not alot of people are into swimming. i just love the feeling of being tired after 2hrs of being in the pool 😂
It doesn’t harm the hair. It pulls it a little but you get used to it. What harms your hair is not wearing one because of all the chemicals in the pool
That's wrong, the chemicals still get to your hair. The cap is there to heel loose hair out of your face and decrease your drag. I think swimmer hair in general tends to be thoroughly damaged like all the guy swimmers at my school have thinner hair strands (not necessarily less hair). I understand you concern like it feels unnatural and it's my second least favorite thing about swimming (besides gross pools), but if you have longer hair, it's worth it. Your hair will get damaged anyway
Jimin's Left Eyebrow Your hair is less exposed to the water when wearing the cap. Your hair will still get Chlorine on it of course, just it won't be as exposed if you didn't wear a cap
Okay but the main reason why you wear a cap should be because you want to reduce drag or you have hair you want to keep out of your face because even though I have long hair, all of it gets damaged by the chlorine. If you REALLY want to protect your hair, invest in some swimmers' shampoo.
This was so relatable. I sing as well as I swim and when I need to just take a breather (yes, the irony) I just stay at the bottom of the pool and feel the calm underwater.
Ahh thank you, just what I needed to forward to my "normal" friends. I'd like to add that despite shaving our hair for hydro purposes, we remain guys 😂
@Warren Lawrence That doesn't matter. Any person with any other passion could make this video because people who don't have that passion probably don't truly understand whatever they are doing.
I just don't see a point for a video like this to exist. It really just feels like they made this video to brag about their skills to people who don't really care.
Swimming is such a mental sport. More so than all others because you don’t have your teammates to help you get through. i dont even know if its ironic or not at this point
I was expecting a letter about how to behave in the pool when you see someone swimming. I am disappointed. This is to edgy for me (and probably most).
We like living on the edge
I feel very sorry for you then.
PS: That's the edgiest answer a swimmer could have given.
ikr, i watched a third of the video and my skin is fucking peeling off from how edgy they're trying to be, what even is the point of this video? are people who swim somehow oppressed and in need to send a letter to """"""""""""""normal""""""""""""" people?
Exactly. I have no idea what the point of this is? Also what was that last part "its ok i know you dont get it" haha wtf was that supposed to mean
I think this video is more for swimmers to enjoy than to teach non swimmers a lesson. Please don't take it personally
I relate too this so much it’s hard to explain to non swimmers, that swimming is a sport and not just a fun game.
Yay I got a ❤ from you 😊

Dear swimmers: As a runner I'm swimming when otherwise I would be drowning. Apart from 8 and 10 I get every single point.
I used to do swimming all the time but now that I’m in high school, everything is too expensive and I really miss it
swimming is about the least expensive sport out there
Amadeus Bellenger exactly. that’s why I don’t understand why it’s hundreds of dollars to join a team
•jessica• I make my own training program and I then go train on my own for only the cost of the pool entry
•jessica• the culture and nepotism surrounding swimming teams is terrible and I will never join another one
Amadeus Bellenger I really enjoy the workout, community, and overall feeling of it, but the older I get, the more competitive it gets and it really loses the whole feel for it
I swim but this still feels hella pretentious. 'Comedy' isn't good either.

Why would you go for that
Fair enough

Swimming make you push to your limits and have a good mindset and it is physically and mental challenging to do and that swimming is very under rated

Your letter speaks to the guy that LOVES the water and lives in Florida, but spent years being lazy and not active. Thanks for your words and your spirit. You gained a sub and I will put your vids to good use
Every professional athlete thinks they don't "play" a sport lol
By definition they are all correct then!
Play {Verb} - To engage in activity for enjoyment and recreation rather than a serious or practical purpose.
it's amazing how much people get wrapped up in themselves and their own routines.
If you believe in yourself you can do it too
''Go to the pool too test my limits of my mind and body''
then wtf do you think other people do in other sports ?
dumbest thing ive ever heard in 2018.
Well I would feel flattered but it’s only been 2018 for a month 🙁
what the hell kind of comeback is that
You know swimmers can often swim more distance in a practice than what soccer players run in a training set which is pretty incredible...
@@junsib9829
Still, you're testing the limits of your body, which is done by any sport there is.
Ahmy4k
Not truly i mean you are but when your swimming your going out of your comfort zone as in not yours particularly but a humans comfort-zone humans are made to be on land not in the water we r not fish therefore your going out of your comfort zone
It’s like a swimmer saying “football is just throwing a ball around” imagine how mad they would get
Ooooo you're a swimmer. Literally this mindset is the worst. "maybe we can still get along" literally what?? It's not like we don't get it.
Legend, Icon, and Star Tracy Martel hes just talking about things non swimmers find weird about swimmers
Ohhh she is a swimmer ohhh she is diferent
And?
@@bzcubes3061 Exactly, I think legend is taking it a bit too seriously. By the way, I'm a swimmer too!🏊♀️
A lot of non swimmers say this kind of bullshit though
Why don’t people get the point of this video? It’s supposed to reach out to the swimmers watching it. It’s supposed to highlight what a wonderful thing it is to be a swimmer in the swimming community. It’s supposed to be sarcastic and quirky for a reason.
The edge is real hahahaha
I have been swimming competitively for all my life and now I am struggling to keep at it as school is kinda taking over any after watching all of your videos it makes me want to continue thanks a lot
wow you swim? me too, guess what, nobody cares
Awww 😢
chill bro
It's true tho
Loko8 woah, you're pretty mean
Want a tip? Don't be rude. It makes people like you a lot better.
I loved this video so much, especially the way you get out of the pool 0:09 LOL :D I'm not a passionate swimmer but I do love going for a swim once in a while. You guys seem to be having a lot of fun though
You seem to be pretty full of yourself and don’t seem to realise that many of your points are true for a lot of other hobbies aswell
Who else would I be full of? 🤪
yamato g. swimming isnt a hobby its a lifestyle
Probably my favorite channel
Thank you!
No thank you, you’re videos are very unique, entertaining, and informative. Thanks for the effort you put into making your videos.
how the fuck did you get the idea to do a flip going out of the pool?? you are a genius
😂 I can’t take credit. I learned it from another swimmer. I don’t even know who invented it but probably a genius
On behalf of all the normal ppl, thank you for letting us know.
Sometimes people are like "you smell disgusting"
Um... it's chlorine...
Get used to it if you want to keep talking to me
Don’t know why people are so confused I loved this !!! I really relate 😂🙏🏼🙏🏼
We get it you swim
Do you though?
Nope
LMAOOOO
Bret Williams you don’t get it then. While also trying to stay a float you have to go fast, be efficient, and do it all with minimal breath
Lil Kachowski you don't get it then. Nobody cares if you swim. Stop acting like it's some new thing everyone should worship.
When he started singing I laughed so hard for no reason
This is the most true thing ive ever heard
This is what I sound lile when I talk to "normal" people about gaming.
1:46 me trying to sing in the shower
😂
Swimmer:"That smell is chlorine.."
Me:(smells sock)... "sure is brotha.. sure is"
The part about hungry really relates to a construction worker in winter. Constant physical work combined with the body trying to create heat at 20 degrees really burns through the calories. Why am I even on here I go in a pool I'm not getting out 😂
😮 20 degrees Fahrenheit?
Skills NT yep that's construction in winter especially Roofing so we get hit by the heat cold winds rain I spend more hours on a roof than anywhere else maybe even 14 hours but rarely that's when it hails and work is insane I'm in Colorado
Just because you swim and do this, doesn't give you the right to be superior.
Warren Lawrence I'm not saying he's superior, i'm saying he's ACTING like someone superior, like you are doing right now.
You're acting like it, jackass. @Warren Lawrence
who else sing in their head?? or is it just me because i’ve never related so hard to the guy singing😂😂
Why would you think this is only applicable to swimming
You can apply it to whatever you want 😉
purest video ever so true it's scary
I learn to swim when i am 34 yrs old lol. Now i am 37 years old and know how to swim breastroke and freestyle and now learning butterfly. Now i love to swim :)
me tooo... :) never late to learn
Get the feeling only swimmers watched this
Help us spread to word!
Yea, Literally realatable.
I’m a dancer, and I have a similar lifestyle. I go to my studio at 11:00 each day, and train for around 4-6 hours. I don’t have many friends, but that’s the price a have to pay for Dance!
It’s a beautiful art and sport! Keep dancing!
A lot of this is also applicable to runners
Yes!
Kind of reminds me of acro!
Nico Ceresa that smell, that's the smell of bacteria farts
(no srsly)
Espically the chlorine smell
Nico Ceresa a lot of this is also applicable to anyone who partakes in almost any sport/activity
i am gonna send this to all my non swim friends
lol i thought it was just me. im not really a swimmer, im 33 and i just picked up swimming 4 months ago. i swim alone too, here in saudi arabia not alot of people are into swimming. i just love the feeling of being tired after 2hrs of being in the pool 😂
Christian John Roudier Agcol what are you doing in Saudi Arabia lol
DROWN TWICE when I was kid...learned myself how to swim at age of 40...hours of watching Phelps...love water :))
I need to send this to all my “normal friends”
When you think he's naked at 0:14
You are a "normal people" though
Are we though? 🤔
Skills NT Yeah pretty much
Staying in shape and having an interest in some sort of sports is pretty normal actually
Ferist yeah exactly just becuase I dont swim doesnt mean Im "normal". These guys clearly cant take criticism by how they reply to people.
@@cliffordbarry6943
Which is?
Basically repeat this, but slightly different, and you have dancers.
Does the thing that u wear on your head harm ur hair?
Because I'm afraid to wear it .. I feel like it pulls the hair in a harmful way
It doesn’t harm the hair. It pulls it a little but you get used to it. What harms your hair is not wearing one because of all the chemicals in the pool
Skills NT ok 👍🏻 thank you so much
That's wrong, the chemicals still get to your hair.
I'd like to add that despite shaving our hair for hydro purposes, we remain guys 😂
beshj thanks "normal" guy ;)
The singing part was SO ACCURATE
0:11 that was beautiful
Thanks 🙂
Once during class I was researching swim stuff and my friend said, “is everything you do related to swim” yes. Yes it is.
Bruh there is nothing special about swimming. I’m a student athlete in the UK and this sums up my life but I play rugby
Exactly
i like how this is directed to non swimmers but swimmers are the ones drawn to this video
Is it though? 🤔
Skills NT true
I want a pool now lol
👏🏻😃
the singing made me laugh so much 😂
Jesus that was really lame.
Thanks for watching and commenting!
I dont think they care.
I thought it was inspirational
Fun fact if you smell chlorine it means someone peed in the pool
False. It can also be sweat
Lol I swim but I still watched this
Yup the singing one was what really sold me on this video
This can apply to a lot of professions haha
Exactly
Literally any person with any other passion could make this video.
@Warren Lawrence That doesn't matter. Any person with any other passion could make this video because people who don't have that passion probably don't truly understand whatever they are doing.
@Warren Lawrence Idgaf if you're a swimmer. A video like this is totally pointless. We get it, you have a passion, everyone does.
@Warren Lawrence "Instead of people telling *us* shit"
though I meant "you" as in any person who's a swimmer
I just don't see a point for a video like this to exist. It really just feels like they made this video to brag about their skills to people who don't really care.
Sounds a bit sad.
😂
