I don't know if this is canon, but either a Capcom or Nintendo publication listed the left player (1P barbarian) name as Mohun. I've since used it as a generic character name for all barbarian characters for the past 30+ years.
Also wanted to ask why you choose Lizardman over Thief. I've found the arc of the Thief's bombs to overshadow anything the Lizardman or the Knight can do, and his damage is insane as well. Plus you never have to worry about breaking trapped chests. Is it just because it's hard to hit the last boss with him?
Hey Brian! Sorry for the late reply. I've been working full time this year and totally disconnected from UA-cam these past months. From floor 25 on the Thief is useless as enemies become too powerful. The only worthy teammates from that stage on are the Sorcerer, the Lizardman and the Knight. The Knight is the absolute most powerful of them all but you need to evolve him at least to level 6 for him to be truly helpful. I played this time trying to beat the game as fast as possible, that's why I went through all the shortcut secret doors available. I swapped the Knight for the Lizardman by total mistake as I should've kept the Knight. While playing through all the blue stages of the Tower I usually pick the Lizardman but when going through all the red stages I pick the Knight as a teammate as it's a lot more difficult going up that way. Using the Sorcerer is very difficult as you need to mix him with the blue mana and recovery bottles and aiming at enemies after charging, it's like playing whole new videogame. I've never mastered the Sorcerer but I've seen a very good player reaching the final boss with the Sorcerer back in 1990. I was about to type "You should retitle this to: Magic Sword Arcade Speedrun - No Damage Taken", but then those two hits on the final boss. Incredible performance regardless, I've played Magic Sword on and off for over twenty years, and thought my ability to win it on a single quarter was good. This is an entirely different level, so cool to see all the various tricks applied at different stages of the game. What is your highest score on the game? I expect with your abilities, you could farm level 47 for crazy amounts of points.
@@stephen-ng Ah yes, of course I know that! I actually mastered this game back in the arcade days, to the point where I could win it trivially on one quarter. I used the Thief actually, who I found gave me the best control over mobs and bosses. I didn't have the ability to grind the game on MAME, since money was scarce, so it was all about completing each run, rather than the score. Sometimes you'd find versions that were set with the life decay too fast, and they were basically impossible. But the fair versions were very beatable, particularly with the Thief.

@@Thebrianweissman - No. The arcade version slowly drains your health as time goes on. It's an impetus to get more quarters or make you rush.

It's an arcade game from Capcom. It was ported to SuperNes a couple years after but the original game which is featured here was a lot better
