I enjoy the Blockbuster Buster episodes on Whedon shows, but I feel like he's really harsh on Cordelia. I feel like Cordelia's character arc across _Buffy_ and _Angel_ is pretty damned excellent, and mirrors Wesley's excellent arc in a lot of ways. Her transition from stereotypical mean girl into a much more complete, likeable character is really well done... well, except for the fourth season, of course. But they even managed to fix that with her _excellent_ final appearance in season five. Not to mention... she's just a lot of fun to watch. She always managed to get some good laughs out of me. (Spoilers) I was genuinely sad when Cordy passed away in season five, and it felt like a major loss.
yeah he was... unfairly biased towards Cordelia. Im guessing from around the era where he made this video, it was cool to be a bit edgy and hate on certain characters. I would be interested in seeing him review this old stuff years after.
I actually thought Jasmine was a great villain. The philosophical debate that the episode presented was very good, albeit one that Joss has done in most every series (Serenity, arguably Cabin in the Woods, and especially Dollhouse). I remember pondering things over and feeling conflicted about whether they made the right choice.
Cordelia has perhaps the most character growth out of all the characters on either show, until Season 4 on Angel when the writers basically gave a big "fuck you" to the viewers and royally crapped on her.
A great Spin Off if only it was not cancelled after the fifth season. Also lots of people say Connor is a bad character at first he came off that way but later on he became far more tolerable
You're wrong about Angel's trigger. It wasn't sex with Buffy. As you can see in Surprise/Innocence, he didn't lose his soul during sex, he lost it whilst he was sleeping with Buffy in his arms; a content smile on his face. Also... Passion Of The Nerd's reviews are better.
the cliffhanger for season 5 was great, in my opinion - the implication is that the battle against evil is never ending, despite Angel previously always going for the prophecy for an end to his battle. Its the end of his arch, accepting that the battle never ends and he can't just fight evil for the thought of getting something out of it
Angel and Faith aren't a couple. They're partners and friends but they've never had a romantic relationship. In the Angel and Faith comics they work together, there is no romance between them
Overall I loved this review but felt the reviewer dissed CC a bit. She was the heart of AI and the show as the Fred character says in an ep. CC is on record as saying she hated season 4's story line as well. Actually until Fred and Gunn broke up I found her character weak and tiresome. AA also went on to display great character development but not as great as AD as Wesley, my fav character in the show. How one can cite eps like "Harm's Way" which IMO sucked, "Smile Time", over rated campy and beats one over the head with its literalism and "Hero" which was a great send off to the Doyle character and NOT mention "Lineage" which is not only my favourite ep but shows how the Wesley character grew in leaps and bounds and is brought low by Mr. WP PURE genius. You also left out "Awakenings" which yes was a reason to bring back Angelus but it was brilliantly done. You mentioned stunts but neglected to mention camera angles. concepts, like the way Awakenings was shot, for instance. I for one loved the character of Conor and that arc because it highlighted the fact that Conor, unknowingly and through no fault of his own was his father's son. Both were abused by their fathers and both lashed out at their fathers, though Conor was told lies about his. Having THE MAN be the parent that did anything to protect his/a child was refreshing since we so often see a woman doing this (see Buffy and Dawn).
Except in season 4, when they wrote Cordy to become demon possessed, then she bonked Angel's son, Connor, and gave birth to a fully grown Goddess lady played by Gina Torres from Firefly to get around Charisma's pregnancy.
To everyone who keeps getting mad at the Cordy hate, please read this. First off, let me say that up until Season 4 of Angel, Cordelia was my favorite character in the Buffyverse and it was only the epicness of Spike's sacrifice in Buffy Season 7 that pushed him over the edge to that spot. That being said, a bad first impression is hard to break and I will admit in the first season of Buffy that I found Cordy to be annoying. With that said and with the clear fact the Erod only seems to think that women who are either geniuses or full time ass kickers are worth anything, it's not surprising that he would hate Cordelia. Doesn't make the constant bashing any better. But I hope it at least helps everyone understand it.
Season 4 had its problems, some HUGE however you woefully underrated it. That season had MANY highlights; Wesley's arch, Action scenes surrounding the Beast, Lilah and Wesley's relationship, Angelus, the Wes/Fred/Gunn love triangle, Faith. There was a LOT to LOVE on this season. Just because Angelus and faith were ratings ploys doesn't make them bad stories, note Spike. Also, I think you were unfair to Cordy. Up to the last quarter of 3rd season she was a strong character; great for dialog and we were watching her change as a person.
Cordy is twice the hero Buffy could ever hope to be. And AtS was a far better show than Buffy. I couldn't disagree more with pretty much everything you said in this video if I tried. Cordy is awesome, Fred offered nothing to the show other than amy acker's great looks, having one series long arc rather than big bads is awesome... hell if you had said Wes' character development was bad I would have thought this was a sarcastic video.
+shishiodun I have to agree, although I did like Fred. Cordelia was arguably the most morally "pure" character in the whole Buffyverse, aside from Tara and Oz. he was also wrong about season 4 being the weakest.
while i enjoyed Buffy a little bit more than Angel.. I do agree with you on the rest. (only because i'm drawn to powerful women; and Buffy was chock full) I didn't mind Fred... she was amusing at best; a spot filler at worst, but after Hole in the World... Amy brought to life one of, if not my #1 favourite character of all time, Illyria. also; i don't find Amy very attracive... heck; i can't think of one woman on this show that i actually find attractive... (maybe the girl from the first episode? or perhaps Kate Lockely?) i guess i was just too engrossed by the story and characters to pay much attention to appearances. (speaks volumes about Joss and Co's creative ability!
She's not close. Buffy sacrificed herself repeatedly for complete strangers and friends. Cordelia would never do that. Buffy is kind to people unlike cordelia. Buffy is smart unlike cordelia. Buffy is honest without being a jerk about it and loyal, caring, sincere
Yeah, season four was a mess, but to be fair there were a couple big things that screwed the original plans up. First obviously was Charisma Carpenter getting pregnant and the other was the death of Glenn Quinn as (from what I've read) originally they planned on bringing Doyle back as a villain in season four. Unfortunately with these two problems they had to rewrite the season and it shows as it is easily the weakest season of the show. Personally I like the second half more than the first. I really enjoyed the Jasmine plot-line and found her to be really creepy, and it made Conner kind of bearable. Also I love Faith and Willow so I was happy to see them. Final note, I consider Cordy to be the best character in the Buffyverse, not my favorite but still the best. From the beginning of Buffy to the end of Angel we saw her go from rich bimbo to openhearted hero. Her transformation over the years is subtle and impressive. Erod asked what her role was, well she was the heart of the team and the mother (not sure why Erod said Fred was because I don't see her as that at all, she's the science expert). Also being vision girl was pretty important.
You don't understand the nuances of Cordelia's character. I suggest you rewatch the first three season of BtVS with the podcast "Dusted" as a companion.
He does. She is like buffy if she didn't become a slayer. She is brutally honest so much that she's a jerk to everyone. She only thinks of herself. She becomes slightly less rude.
Cordelia is always rude angry, selfish, thinks of herself first, doesnt work for Angel for free. She convinced him to charge people for help so she could have a job after failing as a actor. She just doesnt have the time to make as many rude comments because angel and friends are busy doing everything.
How can you possibly hate that finale?!!! The final episode and especially the final scene is one of the best endings to a TV show in history. Was it a cliffhanger? yeah but that's kinda the point. The fight against evil is never over.
Angel was a better show than Buffy overall sure it had some hiccups(Connor, season 4 Cordelia) but still when adding up the points Angel definitely beats Buffy. It had the best death scenes of 95% of tv shows that are on today. I personally loved the mature tone and characters of these show, and the character development is the best of any tv show I've seen. I don't agree with you on Cordelia who was a badass with some great character development. Also Cordelia and Angel they were one of the best couples in the buffyverse, the way the writers worked it in was amazing, and their relationship had a deeper understanding than just some huge first love.
Xavier Rose but that's mostly because the network pulled the rug out from under them. Originally it was gonna be 10 episodes longer but right in the middle of it they only gave them 5 more episodes.
sorry but... Cordy and Wes had the best character development... i think you simply let your annoyance of her from Buffy s1 to cloud your judgement. i suggest you go check out Passion of the Nerd.
Honestly Cordy was the reason my friend and I stuck with this show till the end. Angel in S1 and S2 was insufferable. Just not a fan of broody sullen male protagonists. She was always there to take a piss out of his broody overindulgence and her banter with both him, Doyle and Wesley brought life to what would otherwise be a mopey boys club. So yeah massively disagree with this video. I would argue Lorne, much as I love him, was VERY superfluous after S2, whereas Cordy always remained the prism through which we understand the good and bad of having complete blind faith in the Powers That Be despite them being massive dicks.
Yeah I don't get his Cordy hate at all. She only sucked in Season 4. He missed with that one. Conner was truly the shittiest character. He is right about that.
Face it, the only reason you hate Connor is for his earlier performance in Alaska (1996), where he played the little p---k who wished his Dad dead, before he crashes his plane in the mountain. (From Alaska "None of this would've happened if Mom were still here-!" "Well, Sean, she's not here!" "Yeah, well, I wish you had died, and not her!"

When you say Wesley do you mean Wesley Crusher
@@brianmagee6595 No, I mean Wesley Wyndam-Pryce from the show _Angel..._ the show this episode is about.
yeah he was... unfairly biased towards Cordelia. Im guessing from around the era where he made this video, it was cool to be a bit edgy and hate on certain characters. I would be interested in seeing him review this old stuff years after.

could not agree more.

Its the end of his arch, accepting that the battle never ends and he can't just fight evil for the thought of getting something out of it
And now you can read the comics
I find it very amusing that in some of the newer buffy comics that ive glaced at that buffy and spike have become a item
+alaster boneman and that angel and faith are also a couple is also very amusing
Angel and Faith aren't a couple. They're partners and friends but they've never had a romantic relationship. In the Angel and Faith comics they work together, there is no romance between them
Get out! Cordy was the best character and she had great chemistry with Angel! Until season 4.
She was like Bulma from DB just a hot headed annoyance who became more useless as the series progresses
+Connor Lachmanec cordy is a pointless moron, nuff said
I loved Cordy :P
+Mark Galan in the nicest way possible, fuck you sir

STOP DISSING CORDY! She's one of the best characters on either show!
Shes terrible.
Except in season 4, when they wrote Cordy to become demon possessed, then she bonked Angel's son, Connor, and gave birth to a fully grown Goddess lady played by Gina Torres from Firefly to get around Charisma's pregnancy.

I hate that they ended the show when it was going so well.

T Wall season 4 and 2 are my favorites
Lihal was one of the best things about that show! loved her character!
How can you compare our wonderful Dawn to make-my-skin-crawl Adric/Wesley Crusher? I mean just look at the photo you posted of her!

I was always one of the few people who liked Angel more than Buffy. Even though that series finale was awful
The Gift Of Jericho at least we agree about the awful finale in Angel
Yeah, season four was a mess, but to be fair there were a couple big things that screwed the original plans up. Diana Mendoza
20:50 dude dont you remember he was invited in to her car
plyea was the best and puppet angel
I thought season five was vile, I only liked it because of Spike...
Xavier Rose but that's mostly because the network pulled the rug out from under them. Originally it was gonna be 10 episodes longer but right in the middle of it they only gave them 5 more episodes.
Xavier Rose season 5 was terrible
in your defence mate... doyle is everyones favourite character.
23:06
Connor is like one of the worst TV characters ever
sorry but... Cordy and Wes had the best character development... i think you simply let your annoyance of her from Buffy s1 to cloud your judgement.
i suggest you go check out Passion of the Nerd.
Its not just that and hes talking about this show.
First

I'm sorry, you are the only one who dislikes cordy. And that's because you're wrong...
Yeah I don't get his Cordy hate at all. She only sucked in Season 4. He missed with that one. Conner was truly the shittiest character. He is right about that.
not even close
It reeked of awesomeness. 5,1,2,3,4.
kazoo
You hate Cordy and Dawn and yet you are sympathetic to Conor? Wow, well your opinion and judgement suck
cordelia is a jerk to everyone. Blames everyone for her problems except herself. Is always rude when she doesnt need to be.
Face it, the only reason you hate Connor is for his earlier performance in Alaska (1996), where he played the little p---k who wished his Dad dead, before he crashes his plane in the mountain.
(From Alaska
"None of this would've happened if Mom were still here-!"
"Well, Sean, she's not here!"
"Yeah, well, I wish you had died, and not her!"
The hate on Cordy is not needed. I'm going to hit dislike on your video because of this
She is a rude, vain, selfish person and only stays around angel for a job shes the one who convinced him to make the business and she works there.
