      Here in Canada we were looking for a CKC in June/July last year but was only able to find a cross between a Havanese & CKC. We put a deposit down in July & we are excited to report that we will pick up our new puppy on 25 March. We’re so excited to love another fur baby!

    Seven types of food too? I would never have thought that would be important. I’ve been consistent with my dog’s food but his treats have been different at times. This channel has been so informative. The puppies certainly are developing their own little personalities. Casey Desey is probably my favorite. 🥰🥰🥰🥰

      It's just like Shredded Wheat, but not quite as appetizing - at least not to me. It's very popular in the UK, but most supermarkets in the US also carry it.

    Love that wood burning stove. Such sweet babies. ❤️ If you have a baby with a small hernia, would you be concerned about breeding? Thanks for your videos.

    • @chaskat35
      @chaskat35  3 роки тому +1

      A large percentage of Cavaliers have small umbilical hernias, and that has never presented a problem in our breeding dogs. An inguinal hernia is a bit more of a concern, but then again one of our finest brood bitches had one her entire life (14 1/2 years) and it never got in the way.

    • @chaskat35
      @chaskat35  3 роки тому +1

      I use Royal Canin starter kibble (dry food) at this point. I cover it with hot water to soften it. In the beginning of the weaning process, I used their starter mousse, and when they get to 8 weeks old, they get puppy kibble.

    How often do you feed the cereal and goats milk? Is it a daily thing you can feed or a few times a week?

    • @chaskat35
      @chaskat35  3 роки тому +1

      I normally give it as an occasional treat, but I definitely use it when they have loose stools. The fiber firms them right up.

  • @vickijolley
    @vickijolley 3 роки тому +1

    Hi how much food should they have in total each day at 8 weeks old? I’ve tried looking but all it says is divide it into 3 or 4 feeds throughout the day. I know that but how much am I dividing??? I’ve bought some puppy wet food pouches. Is it one pouch 3 or 4 times a day?

    • @chaskat35
      @chaskat35  3 роки тому +2

      We generally use dry food. I find that most dog food manufacturers recommend more than what the dog actually needs, so if you feed according to the package recommendations, your dog may very well get overweight, putting too much strain on the heart. I'm attaching my feeding guide for dry food below.
      8 Weeks
      3 FEEDINGS PER DAY
      AMOUNT PER FEEDING: ¼ cup kibble, softened with hot water, and ½ tsp protein or vegetable supplement
      10 Weeks
      2 FEEDINGS PER DAY
      AMOUNT PER FEEDING: ¼ to ½ cup kibble, and ½ tsp protein or vegetable supplement (optional)
      3 Months
      2 FEEDINGS PER DAY
      AMOUNT PER FEEDING: ½ to ¾ cup kibble, and 2 tsps protein or vegetable supplement (optional)
      2-4 small puppy biscuits at midday.
      4 to 7 Months
      2 FEEDINGS PER DAY
      AMOUNT PER FEEDING: ¾ to 1 cup kibble, and 3 tsps protein or vegetable supplement (optional)
      1 Year/Adult
      1 FEEDING PER DAY
      AMOUNT PER FEEDING: ½ cup adult kibble, ¼ cup protein supplement, ¼ cup vegetable supplement
      OR ¾ to 1 cup of kibble; 1 small dog biscuit at the opposite end of the day.*
      *If you feed your dog his meal at your dinnertime, give him a dog biscuit for breakfast; if you feed your dog his meal at your breakfast, give him a dog biscuit for dinner.
      • Keep in mind that this is just a guide. Each puppy and adult dog metabolizes food differently, and you should adjust these amounts according to how much your dog weighs.
      • Use a good quality puppy kibble. We recommend an all natural brand like Royal Canin. Soften by pouring hot water over it and letting it stand for five-ten minutes until cool and soft. As your puppy gets older, decrease the amount of added water and feed without letting food stand. Some puppies prefer to crunch their food, and it is good for their teeth, so if your puppy stops eating, try giving it dry kibble.
      You may wish to add any of the following as a protein, vegetable or fiber supplement:
      • Chopped, cooked chicken or turkey
      • Hard boiled egg
      • Cottage cheese or yogurt
      • Pasta or rice
      • Cooked vegetables
      • Mini, unsweetened shredded wheat. The added fiber content will help keep anal sacks clear.
      • Weetabix cereal, soaked for a few minutes in goat milk
      *Dogs love raw fruits and vegetables like carrots, bananas, etc. for snacks, and they are good for them, too.
      • DO NOT FEED your dog grapes or raisins. They can cause renal failure in dogs. Also, dogs cannot digest onions.
      • Feed your puppy in the crate with the door closed. If he or she hasn’t eaten after 15-20 minutes, remove the food until the next meal.

      Watch my video on training a dog to walk on a lead: ua-cam.com/video/7Bh6ZRMNdtw/v-deo.html The puppy in that video had NEVER been on a lead before, and he warmed right up to it. Of course, if you're dealing with a dog that has terrier in him, he might have more of a pulling tendency than a Cavalier, but consistent training should help.
