I had a carpintis that looked identical to yours... absolutely stunning fish. I regret giving him away but had to because my community tank is African cichlids. Truly a stunner fish.
What a nice specimen. I had 3 of these males a few years back....and I'm not sure 3 fish could possibly literally rage hate each other more than they did. I had each one in their own separate 40 breeder tank ....with all 3 tanks set "touching each other end to end longways" on the same shelf. The fish in the middle would race from one end of its tank to the other the end unable to decide which shelf-mate it wanted to pound and rip up first. Of course the moment I discovered this raging and violent "flexing"....I installed a piece of cardboard to break up their line of sight. I've seen male fish go ballistic to be sure......but these so called "Texas Electric Blue" male cichlids are capable of going buck nuts on each other. Great video Andy.

I know you love the carpintis. I personally prefer the true texas. Also the female purple rose queen and male carpintis will create the greatest red carpintis ever. It happened once by accident in the shop I work for. Amazing fish. Half the fry didn't make it but the ones that did (about 20) stayed in the shop for about 3 years in a 280 n.f.s. display tank.. I wish I had footage to show you andy, absolutely gorgeous. I don't personally agree with the hybridizing but I will say they were the most beautiful cichlids iv ever seen.

Right on, Andy! Try to preserve the species and leave the hybrid crap to the Asians. They have the space and a knowledge of genetics. Bred alpine orchids for 40 years- Odontoglossums and Masdevallias. You have to cull ruthlessly. Really bad with Malawi fish nowadays. Call it like you see it mate.
