He and his son Knut are my two favorite characters in all of history!
Many people often praise the warriors who are said to have engaged in known battles, but often forget the ones who preceded them, and lay the foundations for their legacy.
It was quite interesting to learn about one of those whose names are often regarded as just a footnote, and almost lost to time....
Indeed they deserve to be remembered! Thank you so much for watching Wolfmaiden!
The story of Harald Bluetooth, Sweyn Forkbeard and Canute the Great is extremely interesting. Funny thing is they were all know for being christian but their progenitor, Gorm the Old, was staunchly Pagan.
@@historyprofiles absolutely! I enjoy pretty much everything your channel makes.
@@FBI-ix6or whaat!!
Every single Christian in this world is pagan by blood 😁
Not just Vikings..
@@Vladklx pagan and heathen are the names of our peoples ideology of religion. Christians took these words and turned them into insults and a way to demean others that were not of their beliefs.
I've been really hooked to your videos! Literally talk about anyone and the way you deliver the info is amazing!!
Thanks for sorting these, Olie. This is great background when watching the new Vikings series and TLK 👍
Another great video. Love it!
Awesome video man, thanks for sharing.

I'm fascinated by the Viking's history. Most of all, for your passion to narrate them for us. Very grateful Ollie. You couldn't find a better name for your awesome channel: "History Profile"
Thank you so much for your continued support Elke! It really means a lot!
I am loving these Viking videos and can see how history seems to have been mixed in the TV shows, they are a good watch though :)
Great video loved it
H.P another Viking King thank you so much i love the stories 👍😊❤🖤‼
So glad I found this channel! I absolutely love everything you post. I listen to your videos while I'm at work. Would you ever do anything on the history of Japan?
I have videos on the 47 Ronin, The Demon of the western provinces, Minamoto no Yoshitsune, Benkai, and of course Miyamoto Musashi! Be sure to check them out!
I am so fascinated by these sagas, and legends.
Makes me want to go out in the world and concor
Harold bluetooth such a chad namee
Thank you for a well done synapsis on Mr. Forkbeard 😁 i liked & i subscribed... i don't know how to share 😳🙄
Underrated Viking/Warrior (ForkBeard) another great Bio,please do Siward Jarl/Earl of Northumbria he is one of the greatest Viking warriors who most have never heard off.
Vikings never get old
This is a awesome video I love this channel 👍.. I recently looked into my own family history.. found out my last name Renner pops up for the first time in history in the Scottish isles back in early 1100s.. just thought that was cool I think I might come back to claim the 👑 lol
😨 I hope you're going to do more other stories of the middle ages, please.😃
Even with a University degree it is not posible to know everything. These. Articles are so refreshing, and informative
This was a very interesting and fascinating. As a Dane, and a descendant of King Sweyn, it was interesting to learn that he was not the descendant of King Harald but his half brother Cnut Danaást. I had never heard of him before. But it makes more sence to me that Sweyn should revolt against his uncle (king Harald) than his own father.
I love how he earned the moniker Forkbeard. At 10:27, that's the Crown of Hungary.
Yepp, when I saw it I started to scroll trough the comments, curious to see if someone else noticed it, happy to see someone did :D
I thought it was a very cool crown! Thank you so much for watching Dee! I hope you enjoyed the video!
For anyone interested the last season of The Last Kingdom has just started on Netflix
I can't remember all the names so will definitely listen again x
Great Video :)
Could you tell me which source has the info that Knut Gormson is forkbeard´s dad?
It's sooo interesting
Knute was most likely his father.
I enjoyed this piece of viking history.
I truly enjoy your narration. Thank you dear Ollie. .
Hope you are still enjoying your breakfast cereals..... yummy. 🍎💃👌❤️
Not trying to nit-pick or anything really just making a simple point. Many Christian Norsemen were absolutely still Vikings. Vikings were raiders first, Christian second. They still raided or went 'Viking' (viking meaning the act of raiding, Vikingr meaning a single raiding warrior, Vikingar for multiple warriors) to gain wealth and glory, didn't matter if it was Christian territory or not. If you put a Pagan Viking next to a Christian one, I doubt anyone would really be able to tell them apart.
But it changed, no way a Pagan would ever be king of England. Everyone would join together and crush them since they were minorities. They were accepted more as Christians.
@@mrhumble2937 Nah. The only reason Cnut or his father were (nominally) Christian was for political reasons, the English commoners and especially the English nobility were at least partially aware of that fact. A lot of the time they still followed the old gods and had to participate in pagan rites or their own people would take them out. Look up the story of Blot-Sweyn.
@Son of ᛏᛁᚢᛦ yea they had to for political reasons or they aren't king. That's my point.
Great info on the King. Part of my history surname Swan
Canute was legendary! But thisan definitely paved the way!
As a Kid I grew up in Benfleet, Essex. The Church of St. Mary's is Reportedly the Sight of a Great Battle in around 890/3..?
Also my Art Teacher for a Couple of Years, was Called 'Miss Hardrada' ( Not totally sure if that's Spelt Right. As I was only 10 or 11yrs old ) when not teaching Art, we were told Stories from the SAGA'S. (There was a Lot of Slaying involved..!)
Around this age I found 'The Hobbit' and 'Lord of the Rings..!' Even though Fantasy the Nordic names took Root..! (Thx J.R.R.Tolkien.)
My Family name Originating from Norfolk. Dane Law ect.
Great to hear them put out in this Format. Fantastic Stories and Art. ( Hooked Again.)
Cheers kim in Oz. 😎
Yes indeed
Cnut of course went on to marry Aethelred's wife, Emma of Normandy; thus she became the only woman to be the Queen to two English kings and the mother of two English kings... and what a shit show that started. 🤣🤣🤣
Love your videos. You always teach me something new. ❤️👍👍👍👍👍
Thank you so much for watching Perry! Im so happy your enjoying the videos! Your comment really means a lot to me!
@@historyprofiles I must say while I knew vaguely about Swain, I didn't realise that it was he and not Cnut who actually conquered England. I lost him somewhere amongst all the goings on between Aethelred, Cnut and the Thanes with their, "OK you're the King. Wait. No. You're the king. Oh wait! Ummmm tell you what you be king while we procrastinate until one of you dies of natural causes. Oh you just did? Good.
Somebody call Cnut we seem to be short one king" 🤦♂️
The shit-show includes the current, German Windsors and their Pointless Monarchy. And the Pooh-Bah Empire whose legacy of White Supremacy rules England & its stinky English-speaking Colony in America. Let's hear it for the Sword & the Axe🪓! Make ⚒ my favorite weapon a Sharp Tongue 👅!
Vinland Saga anyone?
You would've thought the Saxons learned how merciless viking revenge is lol
sweyn and olaf was brother in laws imagine thanksgiving
One thing is for certain, whenever movies are made they're always obscuring history
I believe Gormursson was Forkbeard father. Blatant adopted forkbeard in order to take the throne
do a video on harald bluetooth the father of sweyn and grandfather of kanute
My vote for the paternity of Sweyn Forkbeard is , due to the recent discovery, Knut Gormson. Thank you!
Canute, I'd like to also learn more about Utred.
Thorfinn Karlsefini ?
Who watching the new series of The Last Kingdom? 🔥
How did they feed the massive armies while they were marching from one battle to the next?
They would March with cattle, plus they would pillage all grain supplies and steal cattle from unfortunate villages and towns on the way to their destination
Maybe that was knut dug up out of. the bog with the hazel in his arms...
👍👍👍👍👍
Would Sweyn have had a chance to conquer anywhere in England if Edward the Martyr had not been doublecrossed by Aethlereds mother?
Harald Bluetooth was Sweyns father. Not uncle
All Kings of England were Vikings in the Viking era.
Being a Swain, I've often been told there's a highly likely chance I'm from the same bloodline which I think is incredible! I would love to know for certain but at the same time would hate to find it untrue haha. I hate blonde hair and blue eyes so I'd say there's a good chance 😂😂😂
I believe that Harald was his father because I couldn’t find sources saying otherwise and he made his older son Harald who is known as Harald Harefoot and conflict between him and Bluetooth might’ve been the same as his conflict with Olav Tryggvason just defending his faith and his gods
Was Ragnar Lothbrooke real? Or just mythical?
@@vanefreja86 i would say mythical, he is not part of the house of Olaf or House of Jelling Dynasty, and yet sagas claim him to be a Danish King. So i would bet he is mythical, since we know very little of the rulling houses between the fall of the the western Roman empire and the late 800
@@ulrichkristensen4087 he was real he was just a farmer who no one could believe became king
I don't think you are quite right about who Svends father was. It was kind of proven that Harald Blåtand was his dad, at least he was said to be his dad back then. Ofc it's hard to say DNA wise if he was his real dad, but Svend was raised as Harald Blåtands son :)
- Love from the dane who lives a quick walk away from Jelling.
sweyn was probably a laid back christian and not as radical as harald
I could def beat Sweyn on points decision
None of these people have ever been forgotten. I'm not sure why you say that so often.
sweyn was a christian who promise religious freedom to norse pagans if they help him overthrow harald bluetooth
How did you pronounce his name...... Swain.....Swain......Oh my my !
It is not pronounced Swain !!!.....Geez next time in future Try pronouncing it like Sven !
Im gay
Don't compare with Alexander for Alexander he was guided by his mother about this savage people there is know great things
Canute The Great is definitely legendary. But lets not let time forget the name of his father and legendary bloodline. He was an amazing legendary warrior. Viking history is incredibly fascinating.
Indeed it is! Thank you so much for watching!!
Cnut not Canute
@@johnevergreen8019 knutr or knud
I imagine King Canute is as hot as he is on Vikings Valhalla. Thank you Bradley Freegard ❤️
@@mycatsnameiskaren8253 actually he looked nothing like that rather he had long redish hair not black and tied behind his head
