    Even with the few oddities in the paint, that is a fantastic result. It’s alway amazing when a Mini goes from a forlorn looking shell in primer to a beautiful looking car when the colour coat goes on. Very well done!

    That was a satisfying watch, I love minis and the nostalgia 👌

    Quality job for an outside paint job on your drive dude amazing results! I can’t imagine the collection of flies I’d have entombed forever if I’d done that at my place 😂 great job 👍

    I think all things considered you have done really well, you should be pleased. Watching you prime with a rattle can took me back to when I did it on my 76 mini via rattle can when I was 16 years old. A sore finger resulted 😉😉
    Just a small tip for next time, turn the gun fan setting to long/narrow and go around all the edges first, lots of areas that are difficult to get paint into on a mini, without casing runs. Doing those first with that setting will help avoid runs. Go round with a very bright light that will help identify paint coverage issues in the difficult areas.
    The reaction issue on the wing I would taking back to bare metal and start again, but try flatting and polishing if you want.
    You've got good gun technique and obviously have a talent for it.

      Thank you Ben for both the watch, the comment & advice.
      I see you have a strong following and a lot of experience looking at your channel so your tips & compliments are very pleasing to hear!
      I was definately fighting low light & yes your “fan adjustment” to do the bitty bits makes perfect sense!
      I find painting so satisfying when you get it bang on 😁

      @@retromechanic2238 I enjoyed the video, it brought back exciting memories of first seeing that lovely shiny 2k paint as you demonstrated. I've got a paint booth but still use a torch as I'm spraying. looking at the paint reflecting off the light allows me to see how well it's going on but the number one thing that made all the difference was measuring paint viscosity. Get that right and runs are far less likely. As you didn't thin the paint at all, thick paint = more runs.

    • @retromechanic2238
      @retromechanic2238  Рік тому +1

      @@bensclassicbodywork ahh! That’s good to know. In my head, thick paint would flow slower and be stickier but good to know adding thinner should reduce the risk of a run

    • @vwtransportersandmotorcycl3729
      @vwtransportersandmotorcycl3729 Рік тому

      @@bensclassicbodywork that’s weird I would of though thinner paint runs more 🤯

    • @bensclassicbodywork
      @bensclassicbodywork Рік тому

      @@vwtransportersandmotorcycl3729 yes it's strange but what happens is when the paint is too thick you will naturally apply the paint thicker. This will result in runs and orange peel at the same time. When you thin the paint you apply it thinner because there's more thinner in the same volume of paint. Some of the thinner evaporates in the transfer leaving less fluid on the panel and it evaporates or drys quicker. This results in a thinner paint film per coat. Goes on dryer, thinner coat and drys quicker.
      The data sheet online will show a paint viscosity measured in seconds. If you measure the viscosity using a viscosity cup you can set the correct flow rate for that particular day. Makes a huge difference between summer and winter, but can also make a difference day to day.

    Fair play! It looks cracking, look forward to the part 2, to see how you sort the little paint issues. My '89 998 needs a respray, got quoted £3500 for a pro shop paint job, if I do all the initial prep work!! Unfortunatey out of my price range at the moment. Could you include what kit you used and total pricing? (or is that in another video?, just found your channel, so not checked your other videos yet) Subscribed 👍👍
