The year is 1899 The Canadian mission to Proxima Centauri B is going as planned The Colony ships are well stocked, self sufficient wonders of Canadian ingenuity The Best of Canada's Engineers, Sicentists, and Soldiers have been sent off along with their families to embark on this great journey The air is full of excitement and hope They recieve a transmission sent five years prior: "Winnepeg has fallen" The last of Canada's spaceports has been demolished by the French fascists, and all remnants of Canadian culture are being systematically erased back on earth. What remains of Canada ventures off into the stars to find a new and better earth. Perhaps in a few millenia the people of Canada will have their vengance.
I can imagine it now: you're in a tank, backed up by the world's largest army. After making your way through the mountains, you're entering the desert hills of Canada. In the distance, you know Hamilton is just out of sight, but then on top of the hill, you see a machine looming over the land. Overhead, the lights of rocket artillery rain down on the robot's shields. Tanks ahead of you are firing wave after wave of shells. Jets are constantly flying in for the attack. The noise still echoes through the hills as the machine goes down. Canada's days are numbered
Canada building the Panama Canal to a random lake just so they can build submarines in it has got to be one of the biggest AI plays I have ever laid witness to.
I agree that it’s weird that city states only have one district. We all know the vatican has a gift shop, so give them a commercial hub at the very least
Yes. I’m willing to shell some of my own money to rebuild my side of the continent. Eventually we’ll get ´er going again and undo the harm of the past 50 years.
Helen Keller was blind and deaf but she learned how to speak. She was also able to write and was very well educated. I think her story is very complicated and a testament to what you could accomplish with hard work but also leads into the complicated dynamic how she was only able to accomplish such things due to her parents money and influence.
It's wild to learn that Mark Twain was good friends with Hellen Keller and he was the one that paid for the special teacher that figured out how to educate her
Re: @4:24 - I also feel a strong, irrational compulsion to improve every single tile that lights up in the builder lens - and I’m also worried about its absence in Civ 7. Love the zen garden metaphor. Also love what you said a minute later about building a beautiful empire and games needing a narrative. Even more than “big numbers go brr,” that’s how I get the most enjoyment out of civ.
0:30 Yeah that's a great place for a neighbourhood! Got a great western view of the lands swallowed up by the rising ocean tides. Also hope you've got good flood insurance!
Oh yeah I won a culture victory by accident yesterday, on Emperor. I was going for a science victory as John Curtain, and only conquered one other civ. I didn't even have a lot of great works, but I did have a few theater squares for culture. I think I had a lot of tourism because I was playing with the monopolies and corporations mode, and I had a few monopolies.
Monopolies are definitely a bit OP. Ever see that multiplayer game with spiff and the yogs? Spiff got a turn 90 culture win as Ethiopia, nothing Potato or the others could do because spiff spawned on his own little continent and has a bunch of monopolies by default.
@@MartynWilkinson45 I think this is still a bad mechanic. It doesn't make sense to accumulate culture without other countries having the meanings to travel through ocean and air, if a country is issolated in another continent.
@@yurisoares2596 oh, I agree. Base game it's irrelevant, the amount if tourism you can generate is easily offset by your opponent's culture, but with monopolies you can get 300-400% multipliers easy. The AI doesn't know to take advantage of this, even on higher difficulties it's slow to improve its tiles, which I assume is how this got through testing. Shame, because I really like the other aspects of the game mode.
Re @2:04 - I have definitely seen city states EVENTUALLY build a second speciality district… I almost always play with the Roman Holiday AI mod but pretty sure it happens in vanilla. I love liberating city states that the AI captured in the early game and then developed as full cities with wonders and multiple districts etc. Recently liberated a city state that had the statue of liberty in the harbor; it was so satisfying, just looked awesome on the map.
I honestly also will sometimes mix up Anne Frank and Helen Keller. I thought about this not too long ago and thought it was incredibly bizarre and figured I was the only one!
The thought of the Canadian astronauts on the exploanet expedition that might some day make contact back home only to find out Canada has been turned into rubble and radioactive dust by France 😂😅
The real guy that Shogun was based on had an even wilder life than the fictionalized version. He did marry and have kids, who wound up returning to Europe where they just sort of disappeared into history.

Edit: I'm thinking of going up another difficulty for Basil and arrange the game basically for a potential stronger tagmas maybe custom wonders like the spear something which gives 5+ CB and the one that gives 10hp healing and iirc there is also one city-state which gives faith per kill if you are the suzerain (for faith buying units)
