This song brings back great and sad memories to me, When I was a young lad living at Lough Talt in Co Sligo. Ireland a lovely lady named Maggie Curley always sang that song at all the house parties we used to go to, great parties with plenty of Country Music and Fiddle's and the best of Country Songs, I always think that we the Irish brought Country Music to America, Listen to the Fiddle playing Blue Grass, that's Irish Music at it's best. Kind regards and Happy St. Patrick's Day to everyone of you and may the Wind be always on your Back. From Alfie Deehan In the Field's of Athenry, Co.Galway, Ireland. ❤.
Lynn spent some growing up time in Grand Forks, North Dakota, considered to be part of the valley of the Red River of the North. We haven't forgotten you, Dear.
It was 2008. I was 13yrs old in class-8 Downtown English School Lawngtlai(Small town in Mizoram from North East, India). Our class sang this song for our school farewell. R.I.P to our class teacher Sir Rohminga.
I remember listening to "Red River Valley" in the 50's Still a good song! The wife would not let me leave the valley, so we have been together for 40 years and it has been good. God Bless Her! Love is the Most Powerful Force I know of! The Red River Valley occupies 17,000 square miles. It is approximately 60 miles wide at its widest point and 315 miles long, from Lake Traverse at the Southern end to Lake Winnipeg at the Northern end.
Love this version of Red River Valley. It's my favourite. They really don't write them the way they used to, and certainly don't sing songs like this any more. Beautiful version.
Missing my hubby so much, this was our team song. The saddest 😢 day of my life when he passed Jan. 09, 2015, we had been married for 51 years when he left me and my daughter & son. Sending lots of love 💕 and prayers 🙏. Rest In Peace ✌️, you will always be in heart ❤️ forever.🙏❤️💐🤗❤️🙏
I love this country song. It brings back memories of when my brother was 11 yrs old and I was 10. He played the song on his mouth organ and then wrote the words for me. My brother passed away in 2012, but listening to this song makes me feel as if he's here beside me.
This was my Grandfather's favorite song. He was the best! A fireman who fixed broken toys. He was funny, and charming. Everyone loved him. He was so sweet. He was my babysitter frequently. I only wish he could have stayed with us longer, as he passed away when I was 7, and he 67. My family, and a great many in the community felt this devestating loss. I'm 63, and his death seems as if it happened a very long yesterday ago. Love you forever, Grandad. 💖
This song brings back so many good memories. When I was young, I would sing it daily. Now I listen to it before I go to bed. I find it soothing. I really do not know why.❤
Lynn was born in Grand Forks, North Dakota. Guess what river flows though Grand Forks? Yes, it's Red River!!! It flows north towards Winnipeg, Manitoba, the location of the original Red River Valley song written many years ago.
This was my dad's favorite song, I remember him playing this song on his violin. Dad has been gone since 1981 and continue listing to this song in memory of him. Til we meet again dad.
A real authentic country western melody that takes one back to the old West, nice guitar work supporting our song bird................I often played this on my Horner harmonica back in the golden age of America.
Extremely sorry to say that this is the first time I have heard this extraordinary song . I am sure I must hear this heart touching song again again and again . From India I convey my heartful thanks to him or her who has given me the opportunity to hear this song .
I remember this song when my late mother who died at the age of 92, she sung at it as a lullaby when she gets us to sleep when we were small. Now our youngest is already 57.
Tombstone brought me here, what a tune..I might be South African but I can totally see myself in a bar in the old West with a drink while this song plays 😂
This is a song for the lone ranger who loves the wide open space , blue skies and yearns for the company of a girl who he hopes to stay with him forever !
Remember this song from my childhood days we sang this with friends and family without realising it's true meaning ... Music was and is music . Whether old or new .
Anderson Lynn sung this country song in such a beautiful way with calmness, patience and confidence. Very good voice with her own identity. Music and lyrics are indeed unquestionably super. I love the song.
When I was at school, in the 1970s, this great song, Punavirta laakso in Finnish, was often sung in music lessons. At that time in Finland, the English language became a subject in our schools. Listening to this makes me feel nostalgic.
Lots of love and memories with my family and friends who were there and now no more in this world. My husband and I sang this song. He passed away. Love this song. 😌😌💞💞👌
Some people think this song refers to the Red River Valley in Texas and that the song must have been written by a Texan. But no, it refers to Manitoba's northern Red River Valley, and so was likely written by a Canadien. No one knows who wrote it, but it's origin is clearly from Canada. The song was known in at least 5 Canadien provinces before 1896, and has been traced as far back as the 1870's. Some speculate it may have been written during the 1870 Wolseley Expedition to Manitoba's northern Red River Valley.

I'm of an age where I remember Red River Rock by Johnny and the Hurricanes being close to the top of the UK pop charts in about 1959. I loved the record and still do, but I have only recently heard this song for the first time. As it also has the lyrics I now know that it is a sad love song, which gives me a completely new and different view of it. I guess I now prefer this version rather than the old instrumental.
Somebody in the year 3,000 will listen this beautiful song and will cry.
