- Recreated using the recently released Softube Model 84, which is extremely authentic with that deep bass, quirky portamento and even noise of the original. I've made 21 presets for the plugin that you can purchase on raveystabs.co.uk for £5+VAT, which includes all of these and there are multi-sample sfz/wav files if you don't have the plugin.
I used to own a 106 but unfortunately let go of it for a couple of hundred squid just before moving out to Australia (then came back), so pleased to have this now.

I wonder how this plugin compares to the recently released Arturia Jun V? Great video BTW. I always love watching them. You are quite talented at figuring this stuff out and we appreciate you sharing!
Thanks. I have tried all the other 106 plugins (Roland Cloud, Arturia Jun-6v, Tal, DCO-106) but was never quite satisfied enough to buy. Then this came out, which really nails it with the really deep bass and all the quirks of the original, it sounds extremely close if not the same, I've got to hand it to them, excellent job. The others tend to be distant approximations, since on paper it's a simple synth to do by the numbers, but they miss the character and get some limited vibe back usually via the chorus/pwm (Jun-6v has caught up with RC here, but this is another league). The one thing I'd question is that the 2 chorus modes on this one sound almost the same (if not the same), but they were quite different on the 106 I had.
Never really thought of the 106 as a bass synth, only ever really reached for it (well, emulations at least) for those classic Rolandy pads. But can hear a lot of gritty UK dance music bass in it now. Thanks for uploading!
Yes, one of the things the emulations didn't quite capture (until now) is the really deep/murky/low frequency bass of the original. The bassiest synth I've owned hands down and very popular in 90s+ prog house, trance and drum & bass.

Sounds amazing. Have you compared this plug-in to the real Juno 106. I have one now but considering selling it with how good this plug in is
I sold mine in the 00s before this but I’d say this absolutely nails it (component level modelling by Softube gets every nuance in the signal chain). Starsky Carr did a video comparing with real thing, that’s worth a watch. Any itch I had to rebuy a 106 now gone, and dare I say it I thought the 106 was a bit of a doorstop at the time (took up a lot of space for all it did) but only later came to appreciate its sound and boldness. You could A/B yours with a demo of this.
Yeah I did AB before and was amazed haha. Trying to find a reason to hang on. Feel like the real thing maybe has a tiny more bass bump but probably not noticeable

Yes worth a try, though unfortunately I found DCO-106 the weakest emulation. It is definitely good in its own right with the extras and is cheap, it's just not a convincing 106!
@@RaveyStabs I have never owned a real Juno (or any synth tbh) so I wouldn't know the difference. I'm more software based. I bought it because I was impressed with the sound of it. Although in saying that i have been having a crackling problem with it (And the Eight-Voice) lately.
What plugin would you say is your favourite 106 emulator?
@@BarryEuphorik yeah the problem was I did have the real thing! Model 84 without a doubt is just like the real thing, it’s more expensive but there is a demo.
@@RaveyStabs Thanks. I just checked it out. Too expensive for me at the moment. The price of the DCO-106 was one of the things that attracted me. I'm too used to using free plugins that came with Computer Music like AlphaCM.

How might I go about putting these onto a hardware alpha juno?
You could try pausing the vid and dialling in similar settings. However, they are quite different synths, with the 106 simpler but having a thunderously deep bass (goes way below hearing limit of 20hz, with many old skool tracks not eq taming it!), has a less flexible but uniquely noisy chorus, and self resonates much more severely on the filter. I kept my alpha over the 106, which is a simpler synth, but those simple 106 tones are really bold in a mix.
