  • Happy Elephant Appreciation Day! Our favourite kind of day!
In this lengthy clip taken in July, Jabulani GM Stefan sits beside the dam while the Jabulani herd enjoy their daily visit to this waterhole playground, enjoying one of their favourite pastimes, swimming, bathing, playing and splashing in the cool water!
You’ll see little albino elephant orphan, Khanyisa with the elephants, (it was one of the earlier swims she did!) as Stefan explains a few interesting insights into elephant behaviour. The weather was windy - so please forgive the audio quality at times.
Considering the threats that elephants face with poaching and habitat loss, we never take for granted the beauty of seeing both the Jabulani herd and the wild elephants in our Reserve roaming in the wilderness and enjoying nature as nature intended.
Thank you for always joining us in our tales of elephant life and wisdom!
Please consider supporting our Art For Elephants campaign - which is live until 30 September 2020! Foster an elephant for USD100 and stand a chance to win a 3 night stay for 2 people sharing at Jabulani! LINK: chuffed.org/pr...

The herd loves baby Khanyisa. Look at how they surround her as she frolics in the mud. Amazing creatures. Better than some humans 🐘❤🐘❤

I want to go to that pool party! I love how they're one big family. My heart melted when I thought 1 of the elephants gave little Khanyisa a nudge to help her get out of the water near the end of video. Do all the elephants listen to Tokwe, the matriarch, even the big bulls? This is their Garden of Eden.

This is a good video, except often the speaker's voice cannot be heard due to wind in the microphone. Perhaps accurate captions can be added (because the closed captions are often incorrect or missing) and sometimes run across the top of the video (the sky) so as to allow viewers to see the main subjects of the video (the elephants, Khanyisa, the humans).

With wild animals, you can never, ever lose your guard. Anything can happen. If there is a youngster there with horns and jealous of her then maybe bring him a snack too while she is getting her bottle. This may decrease any chances of...u know...anything crazy happening.

Are the female elephants kept on any sort of birth control so they do not add to the herd? Just wondering if they are allowed to breed or not?? Or, if the males are not surgically castrated? Both so they cannot impregnate the females, while at the same time stopping them from ever entering musthe so they wont be aggressive and dangerous??

They are behaving perfectly as any herd would with a baby! Building an elephant wall! I can see how difficult and potentially dangerous this can be! Would it not be wise to bring something that the elephants see as a tempting enough healthy treat to distract them a bit while you give her a bottle? It would be awful if someone, or the baby got hurt in the scuffle.
