If you want any meat to fall off the bone get an instant pot and put it in for 45 mins. We did it with rabbit and and potatoes and carrots just like you guys did and it came out perfect. If fell right off of the bone and it shredded so easily. It tasted like pulled pork. Would love to see you guys do an insta pot catch and cook. Love the videos keep them up. Can’t wait for that spring walleye fishing!

This is a slice of my childhood! Where I live rabbits are a declared pest so there's no season or limits, just like foxes, deer and pigs.
I was lucky enough to have a Ruger 10/22 to go along with my traps, so I was able to get quite a few of the little buggers.
IF you ever end up in some sort of survival situation, or even if you end up really short on moeny to buy meat, stewing is THE most efficient way of getting the most out of small game , or any meat. Especially with the bones still in it. This way you get the most potential of any nutrients from the animal. You're absolutely right, the longer and lower temperature you can cook it, the softer the meat will be. If you're truly hungry then you'll eat it however it comes.
I used to sell my skins at a local flea market to make some extra money. I did this from the age of 10 to 14 when we were really struggling financially. From 13 to 18 I worked a lot with contract shooters for feral pest control in central Queensland. Saw a LOT of pigs, wild dogs, goats, donkeys etc turned into dog food, pelts, tusks etc. More money on top of what I was being paid.

Another great dish we Hmong people do with small game is stir fry.
    Ingredients:
    Lemon grass
    Lime leaf
    Ginger
    Garlic
    Green onion
    Cilantro
    Salt
    Oyster sauce
    Step 1:
Cut up the lemon grass finger length
    Dice the garlic
    Step 2:
    Oil in pan
Cook the the garlic in ( let it get light brown )
Throw in lemon grass ( the ones you cut )
    Throw in lime leaf
Add half of cup of water OR bud light or bush lite
    Add your seasoning
Throw in the slice rabbit or squirrel
Let the pot or pan sit for 30 mins to let the beer evaporate
    Step 3:
Sit and wait for an hour
Shut off then throw in your veggies and oyster sauce.

    FYI ABOUT THE SAFETY!!!
So there is a safety on the henry 22, it's fashioned and called "half cocked". This position locks trigger and takes the hammer of the firing pin to prevent dropping the rifle on its butt and it going off. Half cocked does not lock the lever action. To achieve this pull the hammer back slowly till it clicks.

Next time, put the meat in some lime juice, start your chicken broth over low heat, add 1/3 cup of red wine, a cabernet, not a merlot, freshly ground black pepper, shitake mushrooms, minced garlic and a good sea salt. add the rabbit, cover, and cook for about a half hour at a simmer. You can make a roux with butter & flour, and use it to thicken the stew. Lots of other ways to thicken the broth, but you need to cook the rabbit long enough that it's not tough. The lime juice helps to break down the stringiness of the meat. Plate it up with some rice and asparagus spears.

You didn't cook the meat nearly long enough Rabbit is best roasted! Make it just like a pot roast low and slow. We used to kill some cotton tails pheasant hunting and when we could fill my cast iron Dutch oven we would coat the rabbit with seasoned flour ( same spices as beef) then put in my camper oven at the lowest setting go hunt birds and when we got back throw some potatoes in turn the oven up and cook the potatoes take everything out mix flour stirred in water into the liquid left and make gravy. It's amazing how much meat you get off of four-six cottontails. The five of us ate like kings. After hunting pheasants four five days I'd go up to elk camp and eat rabbit for a couple more days.

Jon and Sam you should definitely like pressure cook the rabbit first in one of those cheaper pressure cookers that Walmart sells!! After seasoning the rabbit or even squirrels and pressure cook them then just add all the vegetables and heck I just use the pressure cooker to cook everything!! But you definitely will have much better luck at pressure cooking all the stuff!! Plus by pressure cooking everything I think that it helps all the seasonings to get into everything that you have added to the pressure cooker and makes it taste even better!!! But you definitely want to pressure cook the game meat that you chooses long enough for it to start falling off the bones!!! You guys should try getting a beavers or even a bobcat and try one of those animals!! Those two animals are by far some of my favorites to catch clean and cook up for sure!!! There are a couple others also but I definitely love beavers and bobcat backstrapes over any rabbit or squirrels any day of the week!!! And yes I’m serious I’m not joking!!! Definitely give it a try and I promise you that you will definitely be wanting more!!! Awesome video boys and remember keep up all the hard work buddy’s!!!!

You guys did well here's the way I prepare it.
Season the rabbit, then using the hot pot, sear the meat with a bit of butter and oil, get a good brown on it and then remove from the pan. After that turn the pan to medium high add onions to the pan and just cook tell they are starting to brown, then add some red wine to the pan and deglaze the pan while giving a good scrape to the bottom of the pan to get the fond off. But don't scrape it off if it's burnt, you want the fond to be a dark brown, not black. After that add your stock and water, put the meat back in the pot and make sure the water covers the meat, add more if needed. Simmer for 30 mins, then add in veggies, specifically your potatoes, carrots and celery. Let those go for tell the potatoes are just soft enough to pierce. Add your mushrooms in and cook for 5 mins on simmer. Season at the end with salt and pepper at the end. Serve with some nice, soft and warm sourdough bread with melted garlic butter.

Hey guys I love all your hunting and fishing videos. If you want to shoot a rabbit or two on your property, this is ok, but personally I never shoot any grouse, snowshoe hares, jack rabbit rabbit, deer, moose, etc., on my properties since they are much more enjoyable alive than dead. Maybe I will do at some point, but so far I have always hunted on public land all over the place because I love to hunt in new areas that I don’t know. One exception,I sometimes hunt geese/ducks/cranes because they are extremely numerous on my lands and they don’t stay all year long. It is so pleasant to realize how many animals could live on a property where we left lots of natural bushes/trees/grass/marshes/ponds and where we planted so many seedlings over the years. Of course wildlife will eat their share but those plants survive and we can always plant more. And we learn so much by watching them often, and they kind of become part of the family. My point is there are always annoying neighbours who will complain for everything they could find to complain, but I guess you never complained when they bulldozed everything to seed Kentucky Blue Grass or when they constantly cut their grass to make sure it is like an ugly lifeless golf course. One thing they never told you of course is that because rabbit cannot live full time on their property, because it is far from being the ideal habitat for them on their property, the rabbits hide and feed and reproduce on your property (congratulations) and even if they eat some flowers/vegetables on your property and on theirs, it should not be a problem and again it is much more enjoyable to see live animals than watching short grass grown. And don’t let annoying neighbour tell you what to do because they lost a flower or two, they have no business telling you what you could have or not on your land. Don’t worry, be happy!
