I've always though of the male parts as kind of "ancillary" in that piece. Further, all of the edgy male vocals, metallic licks and her soothing vocals contribute to the power of that song. Shame on you Amy, but I still love you and the song. Her preferred version is really good too. It's just a good song period.
its not that the male counter part took away from her feminism or anything like that. is that they as a band ad a vision of what the album "fallen" was gonna be and wind up records were forcing them to have a male rapper in the whole album, they of course refused and were droped. and i think they were called back and said that no male counterpart in the whole album but instead just in one song, bring me to life, which they didn't like but agreed to. I love Amy Lee, but I hate techno! THis new techno crap has to go! If this was what she came out with originally, I never would have given a passing thought. As it is we walked 6 miles to see her when we were misdirected by a hotel concierge...when it was Evanescence...Now, I wouldn't buy a ticket at all because I liked the heavy sound or the melodic sound she also has. Techno has no place in my mind. Even if she was to have her own sound, you can't recycle songs like that and get a a good outcome.
