  • Founded in 2000 by the German producer Roland Hohberg, Mabulu is the only band from Mozambique with three international releases, all recorded in Mozambique. The first album "Karimbo" made it to the European World Music Charts and the band was nominated "Best Newcomer" of the BBC Radio3 Awards and "Best African Group" at the Kora All African Music Awards.
Mabulu consists of musicians of different ages with very different life experiences and present a strong message about the need for inter-generational tolerance and understanding. CNN called the band "a passionate expression of Mozambique's past and future".
With 174 international shows on some of the biggest music festivals, like Glastonburry, Womad, Montreux Jazz Festival, Sfinks... Mabulu is Mozambique's biggest music export ever.
Despite of the international success, the band was completely ignored by the Mozambican cultural authorities, even when the band was invited to perform in July 2005 at the Live8 in London, which were broadcast on 182 television networks and 2,000 radio networks.
The upcoming DVD include 2 hours of live performances in Dolby Surround, video clips, stories about Marrabenta, the country's most popular rhythm, interviews, historical video material, all with english subtitles.
The CD offers a remastered collection of Mabulu's greatest songs and unpublished new material.
The release is a tribute to one of the most popular rhythms from Africa.
