    Nate, Was a bodybuilder for 20yrs and made the switch to running thanks to my 14yr old daughter (4X JR Olympian). I’m 45yrs old and I’ve been running 28 months now and love the sport and the people! I’ve been putting in the work (6-7 days a week) and I’m going for sub 1:30 HALF this Sunday. Everyday I watch YT vids or read up on running/competing and your page is one of the best I’ve seen yet! You talk about proper nutrition such as green leafy veggies, protein (and when to take it) as well as things NO other runner has discussed (Glutathione) and more. Everything is spot on! I’m already training/doing everything you mention in all your vids and I’m improving exponentially over experienced runners in my area and I started running (first time ever) in less than 3yrs ago. Brother I cannot thank you for giving back and sharing your expertise advice with us! I have so many video requests I don’t know where to begin. I’m only in the gym 2 days a week these days. Could you do a vid on what muscle building/explosive speed exercises to do each week? I may already be doing them, but your audience may be interested in that as well. Can you do a video on How to run a 5-5:30 minute mile and a sub 2:30 800M? This summer I want to get close to a 5min 1500-1600M and 2:15-2:20 800M for a huge Midwest track meet I’ve been competing in the last 2 years (late July). Love this channel! Thanks again for your help!

      Appreciate the support and your message. This sport has certainly given me a lot and I've been fortunate to train with some of the worlds top endurance athletes and coached/mentored by some of the world's top coaches. It is certainly my duty now to give back. Great feedback and will create some videos on the topics you mentioned. You will certainly make some big gains in your anaerobic fitness this year. The reason being is you are fully committed. I can tell very fast if an athlete is lukewarm or has that do-whatever-it-takes attitude. Respect to you and your daughter (sounds like a future Olympian). More to follow.

    Thanks to bring us all your experience Nathan! I have a question, according with your sub 1:30 half plan, today I’ll be doing 5 miles (8k) at 4:25 min/km ( I think is a tempo run) but that pace is something like easy run because my heart rate are in Z2; finally I ran those 8k but at 4:09 and was 23 minutes in Z2(139-154) and 9 minutes in Z3(155-166) because I got 4 bridges to be stronger last 2k; do you think that need I to adjust my running paces (faster) than according to the plan? I mean probably I’m training to run sub 1:30 and I can run 1:28, what do you think?

    Sir, I have a question, in the HM distance do you recommend training to taking h2o /fuel at any specific intervals. On a good weather day, low humidity, I can do a HM with water at 10k, 20k, then gel at 20k to help with final kick last mile. Is this too low of intake, so since I’m looking to extrapolate my regimen to a full. Thanks for all you share. You have great information.

    • @rundreamachieve
      @rundreamachieve  4 роки тому +1

      Thanks Angel Runner. I think that is good plan. I think its importance to practice in training so you have an idea of what is too much and too little in your gut. Monitor how much is too much. I always aim to take in fuel every 3 miles during my long runs. If you look at the elites they are always taking in fluid at every table during those races. You don't see them racing (most of the time) racing without taking in calories and fluid. You are on it. Appreciate your comment.

      Thanks for the comment Gerardo. I would focus on 2 days per week, 1 is sufficient. Focus on very light weights and high reps. Your goal is not to become Arnold but to strengthen your corp, running muscles. Hope that helps. Keep me posted on your progress. Also, focus on explosive type weight training such as box jumps and get a weighted sled and do 50 meter sprints pulling that. The Army world class athlete program really had us marathoners focused on that as well. Helps with stamina and recruiting more fast twitch muscle fibers. Again, the more of those you can recruit the more economical (efficient) you will run.

      thanks for your comment Adelino and great job with your current personal bests. Man...you have a LOT of potential. You're so close to sub 1.30 now. I highly recommend you spend some time below your 6.52 mile pace goal during your long runs. Try varying up the pace of these runs...drop a 5.30 mile every 4 miles during your long run, run the following weeks long run easy and relaxed so you can recover. You have to get 6.52 mile or 4.16 kilometer pace to feel in control, less taxing. You have solid leg speed with that 10K too. Continue to prepare by running some of your track intervals close to 2 minutes faster than goal half marathon race pace. Yes, you won't be able to spend too much time running this fast but you can spend some. Continue to visualize crossing the finish line with 1.29.59 or faster on that clock. Mental training is more important than physical training and often overlooked. Keep me posted.

      outstanding running will having dropped a 1:35 at age 15. You have some crazy potential my friend. Running controlled the first 10 miles and making it an all out 5K the last 3.1 miles...hydrating well and not skimping on this during the race...put two gels in your shorts and take one at mile 6 and mile 10. Stay relaxed (your shoulders and face especially) as you can. Continue to develop your leg speed, alternating harder paced long runs followed the following week with a relaxed EASY JOG long run to recover. The half and full marathons are entirely aerobic events, fast twitch muscle fibers are not necessary for these events and 'training' to build type II fibers is a waste of energy and training time. With how much you press in the first 8 minutes about how you need to train far above your HM pace (maybe actually mention mile repeats? 5k? 10k paces? Tempo? Threshold?) it's weird how much you back off in the last few minutes to talk about how easy your easy days need to be. Though ultimately you really need to give some kind of mileage % breakdown of how many miles a week need to faster than HM pace and how many should be done slower. For most runners trying to break 90 minutes they're already putting down 40+ miles a week regularly and of those 40 miles only like 10-15 miles will be done faster than their 10k pace if that many. The more miles a runner runs the higher percentage of miles will be of the slower endurance variety because what you're training is cardiac volume, mitochondria density, capillary development through the muscles, plasma efficiency, etc. That only changes through time in zone or base aerobic zones, trying to chase anaerobic adaptations and leveraging that for your HM or marathon training is really just a way to find yourself in an exhausted over trained state. Though ultimately without any mention of form drills as part of a breaking 90 min video, this concept is pretty incomplete.
    Edit: You so love your 'haters' so much you hide their posts because they're critical. "Motor units" is such a vague nebulous throw away term that could mean anything. Though I see why you use those terms if you consider a 10k an anaerobic event, says a lot to your mentality and accuracy. Literally zero anaerobic athletes (sub 1k runners) will win the 10k at top levels because a 10k isn't remotely anaerobic. You'll see numerous marathoners will win 10k events - this alone should be informative to anyone actually listening to the usefulness of these 'unstructured' talks as you don't do your homework and seemingly mislabel or use nebulous terms to try and hide the lack of technical knowledge. It's a shame really.

    • @rundreamachieve
      @rundreamachieve  4 роки тому +3

      sounds like you have it all figured out. Thanks for the comment. Yes, they are aerobic events. No, working to recruit more motor units is never a waste of time, period. Leg speed should always be developed whether prepping for an aerobic (half to full) or anaerobic event (mile to 10K). The goal of this channel is not perfection, nothing is scripted. I am going to share my thoughts and the topics you mentioned I cover in other videos and will go more in-depth on in future videos. Mitochondria density, capillary beds etc may be too in the weeds for many beginners and am trying to keep things simpler. These are topics I cover elsewhere. I love my haters too so appreciate your comment.
