    Thanks, for the video - you got a thumbs up! I just purchased the B757 a couple of days before and made my first experiences with it...I like the amount of depth from the simulation, compared to other planes, although I have to spend a lot of pacience and time to understand the procedures how everthing works.

    +David Herky Need to respond out-of-thread, because UA-cam's comments are borked for me, again.
    Yeah, that VNAV thing was weird, there's probably some logic in the way the FMC calculates route segments that quite up to snuff in working with few or only a single leg in the entire flight plan. But then, weird behaviors from FMCs happens in the real-world as well, hence why we're always taught to monitor and cross-check the computer's decisions.
    As for MCE. I had a look at it in the past, but IMO it's too expensive for what it is. If I'm gonna be flying with an FO, I like to make it a real person and that's why I've got Smartcopilot (even though it's not on the channel yet).

    Thank you for the video. Plenty of interesting features to digest. The FMC VNav speed anomaly, when you entered direct to TULSI, was interesting. I saw you had not achieved cruise altitude, so perhaps this FMC logic requires a new cruise altitude entered? As always with these simulations, its only when people fly them in more challenging simulated conditions that bugs are elucidated! Look forward to you next flight. By the way, have you considered Multi Crew Experience? A first officer who has all the flows and checklists, surely makes the flight enjoyable and less lonely, IMHO;)

    How come it was so dark, when I fly at night in fsx I can still see 😀

    • @totoritko
      @totoritko  9 років тому

      Dafydd Rees Thanks.
      As for your question: this is X-Plane, not FSX. Night is actually dark and lights illuminate the ground in a more realistic way (you don't lose contrast and the colors don't look as washed out as they do in FSX: ryabov-912.moy.su/screenshots/ifly_lights_02.jpg ). I'd say the lighting model in X-Plane is quite a bit more sophisticated (e.g. runway/taxiway lights actually cast a light cone and illuminate the ground around them, it's not just a flat sprite as in FSX).

      Thanks, really glad you like the videos so much.
      For specs, the sky is the limit, really. I'm running a fairly crappy i5-4460 on a GTX 970. If I were to buy a new box, I'd get an unlocked Intel CPU and overclock it as high as it'll go. I heard good things about the i5-6600K - especially with a good air or water cooler, I hear people being able to hit 4.4+GHz. For X-Plane, 4 cores is plenty enough, but you need those cores to be as fast as possible. Also, 4GB VRAM on the graphics card as a minimum and I'd recommend 6 or 8 GB if you want to run the highest texture resolutions, especially if plan on running orthophoto ground textures. Don't bother with SLI or CrossFire, it doesn't work. X-Plane only supports a single GPU. You DON'T need fast SSD storage either. I keep all of my scenery stuff on a network-attached home server machine that's quite slow and although loading X-Plane takes about 5 minutes, once running, it's all good. So a normal large HDD in the PC should be just fine.

      Thanks for the response. I do work on a lot of development stuffs on the side, including VMs, docker, and android building, etc. So, I am willing to spend a bit more on few stuffs, to keep my computer up to date. This is what I have in mind. pcpartpicker.com/list/NFVYQV
      I might go with SSD just because, if makes my other development life easier, but I am not sure about the motherboard just yet.

    • @totoritko
      @totoritko  8 років тому +1

      Jay patel Looks like a pretty cool setup. I'd personally go with a 2TB drive, simply because I'm a bit of a scenery hoarder and ATM my scenery & livery library is about 1.1TB. Overall though, looks like a really solid setup, should be able to pull at least 50-60fps at 1440p with pretty decent settings in more demanding sceneries (NY, LA, etc.).

    Is it protocol to leave the Auto throttle on during landing? I read about a crash years ago, when the engines decided to increase to take off power, sending the aircraft over the runway into an industrial area - no survivors. It may have been due to a fault, I cannot remember.

    First video I watched of you, and I have subscribed. Just a quick question, I was wondering if there were any computers that you would recommend for this simulator?

    • @totoritko
      @totoritko  9 років тому

      LegitAircraft Thanks for the kind words.
      As for computers, as beefy as you can get. I'm running a 3.4 GHz Core i5 and a GTX 970 and I can just about get 1440p at 30+ fps with 2x SSAA + MSAA, HDR and most options turned fairly high (but not maxed out). If the scenery isn't too intense I can also turn on global shadows, though for some strange reason, XSquawkBox is having trouble drawing other people's aircraft if I have shadows set to anything other than "3D on aircraft" (i.e. only my aircraft gets shadows, nothing else in the world). I do need to have texture compression turned on, because without it and with the size of the sceneries I'm running (especially LAX and the surrounding area), I can frequently go over the card's 3.5 GB VRAM limit.
      If I was rebuilding this machine again, I'd get a different CPU (a Core i5, but with an unlocked multiplier), overclock the hell out of it (X-Plane *really* likes single-core performance). Other than that, the GPU is mostly adequate for 1440p.

      totoritko Thanks, I recently became involved in online ATC and I would recommend you use Pilot Edge because the ATC is more clear and professional especially for someone like you who knows exactly what they are doing. landing was good , but flare was too long , i think slightly your could give some little bit more throttle before reaching 10ft , thx for great vid cheers

    • @totoritko
      @totoritko  8 років тому

      +Josef Stalinsson Too long? I'm sorry, but I have to disagree. This was almost exactly on the spot where you're supposed to touch down. Ignore the TDZ aim marker position, look at the PAPI. The PAPI is hand-placed by the scenery author and in exactly the spot where it's supposed to be in the RW, but the TDZ paint marks are auto-generated by X-Plane in the incorrect position (a known bug). In reality they are around where the taxiway connects to the runway, about 40m past the PAPI: www.google.com/maps/@47.2612947,11.352014,18z/data=!3m1!1e3
      Notice where all the skid marks are and then have a second look at where my main gear touched down. Almost in the center of the TDZ.
      Btw: if I was giving it more throttle, I'd touch down even further. I was already at Vref over the runway threshold. If anything I should have selected idle thrust earlier (hence the caution horn on touchdown as the speedbrakes extended with the engines still spooling down).
      Anyway, glad you liked it. Best wishes!

  • @totoritko
    @totoritko  9 років тому

    Reply to John Smith here, since he has direct replies disabled.
    While operation of the autothrottle (A/T) is allowed for landing (A/T tracks height above terrain and when it senses 20ft AGL, automatically goes to idle for the flare), in my case here I turned it off for the landing. Maybe you're talking about the A/T ARM switch. This switch is required to be in the ARM position for the GA (Go-Around) switches on the 757 throttle to work (see s1111.photobucket.com/user/googles7/media/767throttles.jpg.html the switches are on the rear portion of either throttle handle, below the white grasping part, where they're within reach of your thumb). Hitting this switch automatically cancels any performance derates and applies full power in case of a go-around, which is especially important in case of engine failure on short final.

      +Paulo Moreira Thanks for the compliments. I don't have paper checklists for the 757 or 777, sorry. For the 757 I use the checklist built into the model and for the 777 I've copied down the electronic checklist from the real aircraft (Boeing doesn't supply separate checklists for the 777, it's all built into the EICAS).

    Hello! Is it possible to fly 2 people in 1 aircraft and connect it to vatsim since me and my friend would like to fly together :) and another question how can you know from the beginning your flight plan? Because when I try to plan my own waypoints and so in ATC kills my dreams :D anyway have a great day.

    • @totoritko
      @totoritko  8 років тому +1

      Yes, flying shared cockpit with 2 pilots is possible. You need to buy a plugin called smartcopilot for that. Not all aircraft are supported. You need a specially tuned config file for smartcopilot so it knows how to sync the simulation states across the two simulators. Have a look at smartcopilot's website to see which aircraft are supported. The 757 IS supported. I've flown it shared with a buddy of mine on VATSIM here: ua-cam.com/video/Pa7JP__-mgE/v-deo.html
      The flight plans kinda depends on where you're flying. Do you fly mostly in EU, the Americas, or somewhere else entirely?

    • @DenVildaAnkan
      @DenVildaAnkan 8 років тому

      +totoritko I live in Denmark so I'm a Europe guy :)

    • @totoritko
      @totoritko  8 років тому

      Victor Gameplays Well in that case, I'd suggest you try rocketroute.com for flight planning and routing. The routes they gave me were mostly OK. Another good source is vatroute.net You can check the route over on skyvector.com Pay very close attention to directionality of airways and filed cruise altitude. In Europe, this is very strictly adhered to. Not all airways are bidirectional and some have restricted altitudes at which they are available. In Europe, airspace is subdivided into two large blocks: the normal Flight Information Region (FIR) and the Upper Information Region (UIR). FIR (lower) routes are typically available from ground to FL245. UIR routes are typically from FL250 and above. Skyvector will show you the respective routes depending on whether you have selected "World Lo" (FIR) or "World Hi" (UIR).
      Another important detail is to NOT file a departure & arrival procedure. Those will be assigned by ATC. In Europe, choice of SIDs and STARs frequently depends on the runway currently in use, so it's hard to know in advance what it'll be.
      Let me know if you need more info.

    I have a question. I am unable to turn on flight director like you did at 33:45. When I flip the flight director and A/TARM switch I am unable to press the LNAV or VNAV buttons. They just make a clicking noise and do not turn on. Do you have any ideas as to why this is happening? Thanks.

    • @totoritko
      @totoritko  9 років тому

      themikester223 Try having a look down at your CDU and make sure you have entered all the required information about your route and performance. LNAV needs a route in order to calculate a horizontal path to your destination and VNAV needs both the route and your weight, fuel, reserves and cruise level information to calculate a vertical profile. In particular make sure you've entered the correct reserve fuel and the CDU doesn't say "INSUFFICIENT FUEL", otherwise VNAV won't arm either.

    • @totoritko
      @totoritko  9 років тому

      themikester223 One more important detail when programming the FMC. You can complete the route page while the aircraft is loading in passengers and fuel, but for the PERF page, you'll have to wait until everything is loaded, since the FMC doesn't know how much fuel will be in the tanks later. If you fill out the PERF page before refueling is complete, you might get FUEL INSUFFICIENT when you complete the PERF page. If that happens, just wait a little until refueling is complete and then reenter some piece of info on the PERF page (e.g. re-enter your cruise level) and VNAV will recompute its path and the fuel message shouldn't appear anymore. Re-entering anything on the PERF page also deletes your V-speeds on the TAKEOFF page (since presumably the performance characteristics of the airplane have changed), so be sure to go back in there and re-enter your V-speeds as needed.

      totoritko Well I do actually have another question if its not to much to ask. :) When I use the FMC for my routes everything goes fine up until the end. What I mean by this is it basically just points me at the airport in a random direction and not at a runway. I'm pretty sure I have to put something into the FMC that tells it what runway I will be landing on? At around 1:07:10 you seem to be putting runways into the FMC however are you just doing this based on what direction your plane is coming in so those runways will be the most convenient to land on? Or are those actually the active runways? Also when you put the runways into the FMC does it guide you so that your plane is pointed at those runways at the end of the route? Thanks and just let me know if I need to clarify at all. :)

    when you fly in vatsim, will it make you fly with other aircraft as well? or is it just a solo game.

    • @totoritko

      Yes, you will meet other people. That's the whole point of Vatsim. You can see another aircraft (flown by another pilot on the network) landing just after me at Innsbruck. You can also hear the radio communication of that aircraft with the Innsbruck tower controller, just like in the real world.

      ***** Well just give it a go, it doesn't cost anything. Just head over to vatsim.net and register an account on the network. Then go to xsquawkbox.net/xsb to download the connection plugin, enter in your account info and boom, you're on the network. ATC isn't always online everywhere, so check out vattastic.com to see where service is available. Usually it's busiest on weekends and near the evening. Beware though that Vatsim simulates real world procedures and airspace, so you can't just fly around willy-nilly. You need to understand the basic rules of the air and ATC communication procedures. There's a ton of training information on vatsim.net, suggest you start there.

    I hate this kind of clickbait, (no complaints or anything but your video was very good) myself fly bigger aircrafts to Innsbruck and I constantly want advice on how to improve but every god damn video I see on UA-cam on Innsbruck approaches are on 26 and not on 08. Sorry but I'm getting very fucking triggered. Nice video though / no hate on you

    • @totoritko
      @totoritko  7 років тому

      Victor Olin Sorry, but I disagree this is clickbait. Clickbait would imply that the video title was exaggerated compared to what was shown. But:
      1) At no point did I promise I would be circling 08.
      2) At no point did I claim the 757 is unusually large for Innsbruck (in fact it's a common sight there: upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/f/f0/Innsbruck_Airport_apron_Pinter.jpg ).
      3) I couldn't have done the circling approach even if I wanted to, since the approach is visual and I did the flight in real-time with real light conditions (you can't circle Innsbruck at night).
      Now if you do want to see me circle 08 at Innsbruck in a ridiculously large aircraft, might I recommend another video of mine titled "Boeing 777 Circling Innsbruck": ua-cam.com/video/OVEwRcVTK70/v-deo.html
