Dave and Freddie became such close friends that he was one of only 5 people who were allowed to be with Freddie during the last few days of his life. Peter Freestone , Joe Fanelli, Jim Hutton, Mary Austin and Dave Clark. Those were the people who saw Freddie in the last 2 months of his life.
Elton John visited Freddie on the day he died and Roger Taylor was on his way to visit him when Freestone called him and said Freddie had died. They went to see him other times during his last months too.I think Brian May visited him too.
@@majvit9271 Oh yes , as visitors but these 4-4 people took care of him. yes, Brian did list him and so did Jim Beach their manager; I imagine his family visited too.
'Time' was a brilliant musical and I saw it 6 times in 1986-7. It was good to re-live it by watching this video but considering Cliff Richard was the star of it for a year, he hasn't been featured here at all which is surprising. He was excellent in 'Time' and probably the main reason for many people going to see it.
I have found that he has been constantly under rated in most of his work. For kicking off British rock and roll to movies, theater, singing, tv, etc. it just seems the media and most of his peers don’t seem to take him seriously. For goodness sake, the guy has been performing and entertaining now for 65 plus years! What is wrong with people in Britain??!!🇺🇸 ( from across the pond)😎
From the start, it was already a good Idea for a Musical, with super songs. But Freddie Mercury.. Well, how to say it.. He just brought it to another level, that only himself could reach.
Cliff Richard was the star of Time. Cliff was astounding and he sung the songs a million times better live than all the guest singers on the album, however great they all were. Dave Clark is an amazing man and remarkably, he sent me tickets for the premiere after writing to him. My sister and I sat next to Freddie Mercury. It was an unforgettable night. The show was massively successful but make no doubt about it, Cliff was the star that shone throughout the run of the show. When Cliff left the show after a year, the show rapidly came to a close.
I mean, I know I'm on a Freddie binge right now (thanks BoRhap for forcing me to really dig into Queen's music and have a new appreciation for the talent) but damn, I had to pause this video when Freddie started singing...he's just in a different league than all of the clips before him...even Stevie. Unbelievable. I've been listening to so much of their catalog that I've come to expect the greatness but when you hear someone else sing and then you hear Freddie it leaves me speechless and a little teary just typing this.
Same here. I grew up listening to Queen, but never really listened to anything but their big hits. Over the last few months I've been watching video after video of Queen, and Freddie. I've discovered songs I had never heard before, including this wonderful gem "In My Defense". It's one of the best songs I've ever heard him sing, and I think it has so much more meaning now than it did then. It was like he was singing his own epitaph. If you see his statue in Montreux, the epitaph on it says "Lover of Life, Singer of Songs". Brian May wrote it, but Freddie was actually singing it in this song. I like it so much that I think it would have been a great closing song for Bohemian Rhapsody. Although it wasn't a Queen song, it just fits doesn't it?
A very exotic musical for that time. All was done perfectly. Freddie Mercury and Clilff Richard duet at Dominion theatre was the best live gig ever. Unfortunatelly the last time Freddie sang in front of a live audience. RIP Freddie
Should have had Freddie sing the whole album. He is on an absolute different level than any of the other singers. No offense to them but Freddie is the legends of legends, a once in a century talent.
I was very, very lucky to see "Time" three times (the last saw an appearance from Freddie!) with Cliff Richard in the lead role. It was a genuinely fantastic, thrilling, feel good, ahead of it's time (pun intended) show with great songs throughout and visuals that, to this day, I've not seen bettered. I'd love to see the show revived for a new audience - the songs and the show itself certainly deserves it.
Glad that Freddie decided to do the Title track Time after singing In My Defense. Both songs were seemingly just made for him. Wonderful. No one but you.
Freddie Mercury was extremely talented. Genius! inimitable, irreplaceable, unforgettable! Freddie was a charismatic, beautiful man! Brave, strong and educated. Dave Clark he was a true friend, holding Freddie's hand for the last hour.

If you see his statue in Montreux, the epitaph on it says "Lover of Life, Singer of Songs". Which Brian May wrote. It was also used as the title for the Freddie Mercury solo album, put out in 2006, which includes this song.
