I like how you get fast to the point in your videos! Thank you for your posts.
I have never seen a coconut like that! It looks delicious!
I recently purchased a white coconut and love it. I was amazed how much water I got from 1 coconut. No more brown for me. Went back to market and noticed blue spots on exterior so I didn't buy it but brought it to managers attention. If mold is on the outside should I not purchase? Thank you Mike Coffey
If this young coconut is imported product, dont forget to wash its husk. Its has Chemical coat to prevent fungi ETC.(This multi-chemical is dangerous and cannot remove simply by simple wash)-*-
And its better to peel top of young coconut around the area you want to open(for make sure about chemical and not to let its husk mix with its water)
My method is a little different (I am Thai and NOT Good at using Chopper)
Then I afraid to use sharp side to cut it. -*-
I just peel the top part like this clip at the open area, and hold coconut with my left hand. Then use spine of the chopper(make sure its a heavy one) slam that area with proper force then you can open without dent your chopper or risk your finger -..-.
Its water may spill a little(or not) if you proper hold it and slam its nice.
beware of recoiled from the chopper!!
Thanks for letting me know this Nick. I've remedied the issue.
Awesome job!
Cut up the coconut "meat" and add to your water to make it like the ones from the store! I lovvvvve it! adding chia seeds makes it good too!
Great video!
young coconut water has the same "Nutrients and Electrolytes" as old coconut water ?
it's an important question please answer me ..
thanks in advanced
Thanks Sebastian, although the sound didn't work for me for some reason, I thought her video was great! I'll give her technique a try and re-film if it's better. Thanks!
Best instruction I found for opening the young coconut - thanks! :-)
It's the best instruction you found but not the best. She has a little way to go before she can open one properly
HealthNutNation I read white coconuts are doped in formaldehyde. Is that true Alison?
That's nice but you're not telling us the difference between the mature and the young.
Oh cool. comment just posted. Umm ok so one question I had for you seeing there was a reason why I was researching coconut water. I know they are good for the electrolytes but where I am (Canada), I don't see green coconuts often but there are the packaged type and I know some are more pure (no sugar added) but I know they must all be pasteurized. Do you know if that affects the electrolytes? I would guess no. What do you think?
This method looks a lot messier than what I am used to. I prefer to get rid of the husk completely (husk removers are essentially pry-bar stakes that you smash the husk onto before you pry it apart) and then freeze the nut until the water inside is completely solid. A gentle whack or two on the shell with a hammer and - POP! - the pressure causes the shell to crack into easily manageable pieces, leaving the meat and water in a clean, round, totally edible package. From there, you can just thaw the ball in a dish and use however you like. No shreds of husk or wasted meat. Apart from the freezing/thawing time, it takes maybe 3-5 minutes of actual work. Well worth the wait.
Melanie Dodge I'm going to try this method Melanie. I've never heard of it before. You're right about the husk. I now remove it all (with a knife) around the area where I am cutting, before whacking it. But your method would eliminate the waste of coconut water that spills. Thanks!

I came here for a coconut but what has my full attention is a lovely and beautiful host of the video :)
Geesh, how could I not approve a comment like that?! ;-)
have u ever taste a coconut shake? it's delicious. or u can fry's the coconut without oil until it become brownie and smash it until it turn to dark brown gel. the smell n the taste is so good
Mimi Fauzizi Yum! I'll have to try both! How do you make a coconut shake?
Morning drink? Grab your favorite cup. Add some milk, tea, a slice of ginger, (maybe some sugar if you're feeling sassy), boil it together and you've got magic. I also like to add on microwaved marshmallows for froth, and crushed peppermints like sprinkles. WAAAAAY better than a morning cup of coffee.
It would help to clear the husk form the area you're planning to do your opening.Doing so will make it easier to crack the shell with less attempts.Just saying..
Thank you for this comment. Since doing the video I've realized that clearing as much as the husk from where I'm planning to open, makes for a much less messy job. I've considered re-doing the video to show this, but haven't had time yet. Hopefully people will read your comment and do it! Thanks!
Love it this video made me thirsty when she was passing the water to the bottle
Thought this would be informative for both coconuts. Not just one.
She forgot to tell you to shake your coconut. If you hear sloshing, it's probably missing a lot of potential coconut water. If it's silent, then it's either full or empty; in that case, it's pretty obvious based on how heavy it is.
I use a ice cream scoop the get the meat out. Works great!
Some work better than others however.
Buy the Coco Jack
Cononut water should use directly.. shouldn't keep in refrigerator...
I deal with these a lot.
I'm coco nut's over this video.
I'm surprised there are not 4321 other comments stating the same thing. Figured you'd be sick of hearing it over and over. BTW you don't have to approve this one if you don't want to. Just relaying the message back :)
Young cocnuts are cheap in India.I love ne some coconut water
That was the funniest thing I heard all day "Don't be afraid to whack this sucker hard"
Thanks for the video, however there is a safer way of opening the nut, maybe time for a retake on this one? watch?v=3caGfCpIAUw Kind regards Sebastian.
I prefer the young coconut
That's why you are so beautiful, the coconut keeps you younger!
Great presenter, but as many have mentioned the opening method was less than ideal. A novice could have a glancing blow and hit the left hand/arm. Also the shell cracks too much and would contaminate the inside contents.
You have not clue. Have you done it before? I'm from the tropical place, there no wrong or right way of opening a coconut. Every summer we get fresh coconut.
Have you heard about the amazing COCO JACK yet?I I love how safe and easy it is to open young coconuts with this tool. Note: It does not work on mature "brown hairy" coconuts, just the young coconuts with the white outer husk (not sure about the ones with the green husks outside of that). Put in AVO as your discount code if you order anything from the CocoJack website for a 10% discount. www.coco-jack.com/pages/instructional-videos-how-to-use-the-coco-jack
Can you eat young coconut meat
Why not eat coconut meat, serious? You never eat fresh young coconut meat??? its best part of coconut is sweet & soft, taste smell good.
Old coconut meat (coconut's flesh or coconut jelly) is tough to eat because it's old & less sweeter, not worth to try, old coconut meat is best to make coconut oil & coconut milk.
You can make coconut milk from old coconut meat, its easy!!!
+Xander Vranes yes and its really delicious.... a great choice for dessert... i love it!
No.... The white and brown coconuts have the same shell just different colors
I think what you are doing is wrong. I personally think that once you open young coconut, you should consume it immediately, otherwise it doesn't taste good anymore.
To have it cold, just refrigerate the coconut before opening it.
I also open it other way around, it's much easier. Instead of pouring it to a bottle I just use a straw so I don't have to make a large mess or anything like that...
Young coconut is 100% better
What u guys don't know is that coconut oil is 92% saturated fat😊
Sir Goofynoodles medium chain fatty acid.... a type of saturated fat that is actually GOOD for you
Young coconuts are cheap here in India.I love me some coconut water
sexy
Nice tutorial. You are wife material 100%. Smart/cute/chef
Christian Marleton Really that’s what you think wife material is? Just cooking and being a chef?
(Not trying to sound bitchy)
Jesus made coconuts :)
beefzilla the strongest bean in the universe Jesus made the whole earth and He created time. Nothing existed before JESUS. Read John 8:58
That is not the way to open a coconut. You made a mess of it. With more practice you will get use to it.. Thanks for sharing your video
Pick one that's nice and white and clean just the way I like my women
Health nut? You're a nutritionist and you cook meat? Holy guacamole. Do you have a ton to learn about actual health and nutrition. So sad.
I used to open young coconuts in the way you presented in this video, which is messy and dangerous. Later I learned a trick from a friend from Cambodia, which is much easier to get the liquid. Instead of slashing the tip portion, you just need to use a kitchen knife to cut off the soft portion (about half an inch thick) of the bottom (the flat side) to expose the hard shell. Then you will find a soft spot on the hard shell. You just need to use the tip of a knife or a chopstick to punch through that the soft spot (very easy). You can then insert a straw into the coconut to drink the liquid. To get the internal white meat, I haven't found a way better than yours. However, typically I don't bother to break the coconut for the meat because it is only a thin layer of meat. After drinking, I just throw away the coconut.
