I've got a 1959 D-32 that runs quietly and beautifully, and I've seen a new one that runs just as well. Great guys at Wilesco! Keep up the family tradition.

Why can't they just put these into regular production, like they did in the 70s? And these D32s are WAY to expensive. I can get an Accucraft ruby for less than that.

The quality of Wilesco's engines has severely deteriorated over the years, they're cutting corners to save money and are releasing a substandard product that has no where near the craftsmanship of the early Wilescos from back in the day. Bad solder joints, valves made of plastic, crooked flywheels, and sloppy connecting rod and eccentric fits (The engines do nothing but clank and clatter when they run), are the norm these days and these engines are no different, the crank phasing isn't even at the proper 90 degrees on most of the engines already sold! They're selling these things for $2700 bucks in the US which is highway robbery for this new garbage. They're capitalizing off of the fact that it's a limited run when really it's just a D24 with a bigger boiler, and extra cylinder, and a feed pump. You can get a brand-new Marklin 16051 for $700 bucks cheaper when they come up on Ebay and while it's still not as high of quality as the original Marklin 4158 from the OLD days, it's miles better than this thing. If I could find an ORIGINAL D32 from the 60's or 70's I'd buy it in a heartbeat. But anything new from Wilesco just brings nothing but disappointment. Wait til the solidified flux works is way out of the soldered joints that don't have full penetration, it'll start to leak in a hurry. 3 of my 5 Wilesco engines had leaking boilers and/or pipes that I had to repair myself. The Boilers are made of Brass not copper so over time they'll start to de-zincify and pit through or even crack anyway. Brass is NOT a Boiler-Making Material.

While the handles on the valves/ whistle are plastic, the rest is metal. There are 3 whistle types I've only had the one on the D-6 which is far from good (But the whistle is annoying anyways), the one shown on this model is, just based on what I've seen, by far the best and most likely least to break. I doubt the ones opening up for the steam are bad, being plastic probably also eliminates them being hot/too hot.

Do your research, the most basic of the Wilesco Whistles has not only a plastic handle but plastic valve. It's all molded as one piece now, then put into the brass valve body. The same valves are used on the Traction Engines as throttle valves. The larger stationary engines still use the needle valves and they're horrible also as the packing glands leak and they're hard to set at a good sedate running speed. Wilesco stuff today is JUNK. Plain and simple.

Ah yes, that one slipped, the whistle with chain don't have a plastic valve though. My D-6 is running completely fine, whistle is the cheapest one, it's crap and is annoying, so it's permanently closed, but engine runs flawless and is only about 12 years old.

SteamAndSmoke97 I recently bought a Märklin 4158/7 for about 1300€ in perfekt condition!

Better for a 1000 less a used one from the 80s. Wilesco never got close to Märklin and Co from before the war. But the new one is carelessly nailed together, there are better ones from China and even toys from the GDR were better. After 50-60 years, the heating could have been made controllable ex works, so the part constantly runs into the safety valve. Primitv has nothing to do with nostalgia. Also the material, especially the fittings that you touch feel like they came from a gumball machine, with the old ones it's still a bit of German workmanship. If the part cost €500, I wouldn't say anything and fix the defects myself, including turning off the wobbling flywheels, but like this: No thanks Wilesco!

I am feeling very good with my pre-WW1 steam engines and am really looking forward to the Christmas/Winter period to get them up and running again.@@eegg6954
