Excellent video of Arp ! amazing woman, artist, who found joy thru art during aweful, hard times. Inspirering even us in this created covid driven insanity we live in today, 2022. Thank you Hauser & Wirth !
3:44 Kind reminder that Malevich is a Ukrainian artist! He was born to Polish Family in Kyiv on Feb. 23, 1879 - then Ukraine was occupied by the russian empire. Which has stolen Malevich's image nevertheless but Malevich repeatedly described himself as Ukrainian. It is fascinating to explore the connection between Malevich's works and his admiration for Ukrainian traditional art. Furthemore, his contribution to a Ukrainian art community of that time. But it will be too much for one comment. It's a mockery to call Malevich a russian artist when russian government killed him! In 1930, Joseph Stalin announced a "purge" of highly qualified specialists, calling them "bourgeois intellectuals". In the same year, the leningrad secret police tortured Malevich and demanded that he confess to being a spy. Malevich consequently developed disease, which contributed to his death on May 15, 1935. Wish this note I hope to encourage you to look closer to Malevich's Ukrainian identity. Cheers!
Her joy in illustrating her artwork demonstrated the beauty of the world and the meaning of life.
