I admire Professor Louise Edwards' bravery and wisdom. Your penetrating insights and knowledge on China and Asia- Australia relations is a timely message for our war-mongering leaders and demagogues of hatred and rivalry against a self-made enemy. Australia needs an independent foreign policy, with its unique geographical, socio-economic positions, and complementary interests with neighboring Asian countries. Fundamentally, a dangerous cold war with China is completely wrong and unnecessary, missteps lead us to a path of destruction, and dragging the world down with it. Powerful examination of the state of affairs! My only disagreement is with the statement that there is "no question" China's actions in Hong Kong and Xinjiang are bad. There is a question - given the recent history of the Five Eyes using false human rights claims to create a pretext for military escalations and interventions, we shouldn't accept the current narrative without question. A small gang of politicians, academics, journalists, and think tanks closely tied to ASIO, Five Eyes and the US government have succeeded in poisoning Australia's relationship with China in just a few years. Thank you for this excellent presentation. The 5 eyes coalition represents the distorted world view of the Anglo-west alliance. If this coalition is a disease, then it looks like a cancer to me. If there were no divide and conquer subversive activities in this world, humankind would greatly benefit from all great cultures from India, China, and the West. I hope the 5 eyes will go blind and stop seeing the world as a competitive arena to win at all cost.
The sad truth is unless the reality , which is changing fast is not understood, the decisions one makes are going to be wrong ones. One starts navigating paths in ones head , digressing from the reality, and finds oneself, too late, I feel to correct ones mistakes. Hardships, barriers, make one toughen and moulds leadership qualities that will serve the societies who gets them. Looks like China seem to be the destination for these bright ones.

I was sent by my father to study in United Kingdom because our family has the financial resources to give me this opportunity but I am East African Muslim so was educated to be speak fluently three languages including Arabic language because the Holy Qur'an was written in Arabic language so Muslim children regardless whether they are born African or Chinese or Arab even in toubled Afghanistan this tradition continues in teaching Arabic language and the Holy Qur'an to children so you understand multicultural better by learning a foreign language and I see a Muslim child in Africa, London or Saudi Arabia, Afghanistan or in China are far capable in understanding about multicultural and multilingual environment then their white male adult counterparts in London and Washington or God forbid modern day Australia unfortunately those white male adults are predominantly the elected or selected political masters is not an optimal performance in 21st century complex multicultural, multilingual and multi-faith societies in the world today. I don't understand why British, American and Australian leaders fabricated allegations about Islam to make their population becoming hysterical about Islam as something to be feared as all this political leaders make wild misguided accusations about Islam only to a Muslim proves that they have ignored fundamental basic step that was to first read the Holy Qur'an before making wild judgements about Islam might even be able to help you understand your Muslim minorities in their countries as well as the Muslim world with the fastest growing population of billion people as estimated. Your elected political masters' are idiots and so dangerous as leaders because they are poorly uneducate men to lead their country so this is what is harming their own country's best interest in not learning Arabic as a foreign languages you will never understand Islam simply because to be able to read the Holy Qur'an was primarily written in Arabic language. I think that is why US, British and Australian leaders lost miserably being able to influence in the Muslim world because they don't learn Arabic language or any foreign languages some are worst in their level of stupidity then others as I noticed that even if you listen to Boris Johnson's public health speeches on dealings with Covid-19 pandemic in English, Somali and Arabic languages like the British public themselves, I too was left confused as regrettably Boris Johnson is not able to speak English language to a standard that is understandable to any human society is similarly the case in Trump's America both are stupidity at dangerous level to be national leaders' in time of public health crisis like Covid-19 pandemic. Byway, I have had a chance to meet the Chinese Ambassador to Somalia once and I was impressed when I found out that he spoke more fluently then me in Somali language despite this being my mother language even my own mother said that I should learn Somali language from the Chinese Ambassador because he was that fluent in mastery or command in my own mother language despite being a foreign speaker then myself. İn visiting Dubai UAE again I noticed similarity in the Muslim world the Chinese Ambassadors are fluent Arabic language speakers and again I noticed that in Istanbul Turkey where I am currently residing nowadays that the Chinese Ambassador in Turkey is also fluent in Turkish speaker language this can be seen as well in Pakistan the Chinese Ambassador to Islamabad is a fluent Urdu language speaker so most of them don't need translator like Western officials in the Muslim world or in non Muslim foreign countries all are in predominantly in need of a translator to have a basic conservation with a foreign leader as this has been the rule to expectations in foreign countries in asking for a translator this is not required when you are dealing with a Chinese diplomats from my own experience foreign countries is the norm nowadays. This Chinese officials in Muslim countries probably mastered their knowledge in the Holy Qur'an better than me who was born as a Muslim But I don't envy them but I am humbled by seeing this exceptional Chinese officials doing well to be showing their hard work and commitment to excellence to learn Somali or Arabic language or any foreign languages is difficult as I remember my own experience but I think that the Chinese are very detailed oriented and highly well trained in foreign languages and cultures to be at a world class top level today is shown by sending their most sophisticated and capable China official to foreign nations must be fully funded and supported by their Government in this area being required to be at mastery skills before any Chinese official can get a chance to represent their country to another foreign countries via Foreign office Government posting. I prefer to live in Asia especially in China so I have invested in learning my fourth language Manadrin Chinese to help me seek further knowledge and wealth in China so I think despite Australian, US and British graduates like myself the flood to get out of US, Britain and Australian toxic anti-immgrants policy recently as only benefitted more non white graduates flocking to Asia and Africa looking for better quality of life then remaining in those Western stupidity toxic anti-immgrants environment in future.
I used to have high regards on Australian values and standards, until this Morrison guy popped up!! Despite knowing there will always be hypocrisy in politics, at least before Morrison everyone has been polite and civil!! Come on, Aussies, you can do it! Stand up against US imperialism and bullying!! You are not a vassal state of anybody!!
I would check your accusations about Uyghurs and Hong Kong students. You might find a lot of it complete malarkey. Hong Kong was one of the freest place on earth under China until 2019. How does that suddenly become a 180 all of a sudden as if they were Gaza? The west didn't just took advantage of it, they made it. The same thing with Xinjiang. Does Taiwan suffer like it's Cuba and trade embargoes imposed on it by the US? No. It's all rubbish.
What the lady commented rings true since the british ship the prisoner there. They had been bought up with such arrogance from child hood, right through their working life influence by the west like US & limey mostyr racist. I went 2 Uk 4 higher education. There I enciuntered a lady from Aust. She had nice manner but quite an arrogant attitute. Many diggers had this attitude. Yes, we asian took this attitude as we r still developing & growing. Now, we have grown up, we were taught to treat all human beign as equal. No arrogance & bossy attitude will be entertain. U can bully some asian as they have not become a dragon. Once we r, we will not this bullying lying down.
Australia is still suffering from a colony mindset only this time US is the master The best thing for Australia is to pray for an act of God whereby the Island can be drifted to off the coast of US. If this hope is given up, the Australians must live like an Asian but with Australian characteristics following Communist China who succeeds in a market economy with Chinese characteristics. Australian politicians should introduce the study of Chinese language in its education so as to understand China better and broaden their understanding of world affairs. China is probably the country that can generate economic prosperity for Australia till time memorial. Australians must discard the notion that it has the military muscles to intimidate neighboring nations. Total population in Australia is hardly equal to Chongjin city in China.
Someone projected that the coming change in climatic condition can make Russia vast landbank into a mega producer. And with the current rail links across the Eurasian landmass, it makes sense for Russia and China to jointly develop this vast landmass into economically strong center of production. This will solve the interests of both nations since many of those land-locked nations all need developments and a good source of trades among all the players. Rail links across this landmass will eventually bring economic progress to all involved. hat better policy than to enrich your neighbours, rich neighbours will not create trouble only those numbskulls will try to belittle their trading partners!
most chinese know their government is not good and kinda living in the past world, imperial power society. BUT if all the white coutries come to point it out and TOLD them TOP DOWN all the time, that "you are barbarian, you need to be educated you need to be saved by us-------white heros, you are not demotratic", It makes Chinese government feel really offensive. therefore, all the conflict come out, just my opinion. In the end, if everyone points out every issues, gov will close their door just like south korea, rich people leavs only poor people suffers
Then aren't you forcing your ideology on them? How is that fair? Everybody has a religion, even atheists; A set of ideals and ways to lead life is religion in the basic sense. Wasn't the argument against religion on how they force their way on to people? How is what you are doing any different? Is the difference that you are right and they are wrong? That sounds as arrogantly sanctimonious as the fools at church. And the basic first principle of the secular point of view on any law is that humans are "born" equal (not created, since that would imply involvement of God) but if we go with the secular point of then the one thing we can absolutely guarantee is that humans are not born equal. So let the women start with a prayer if they want to. They aren't forcing you. If you have a problem, start your own seminar or stream. Break it down to the basic principles and you will realise that you are not that different from the rest of the world. You may have some genuine differences but don't pretend to be something you are not or rather don't pretend to be different in a way that you are not.
@@questworldmatrix it's not. Everyone wears their way of life on their sleeves. Certain ones are hypocritically forced to stay quiet but times are changing.

@@qave One can't really take information for granted these days and assume that events that enter into media narrative and political truth are actually real, or as described. Well said Qing Cha, for those of a certain political agenda it is easier to rubbish such claims as political propaganda then to seek the truths you mention. To cast HK protests as pariahs completely misses the real agenda. Watching this on 20 Apr 2021. It is amazing that NZ has the courage to depart from the 5 eye alliance and set foreign policy based on NZ's interest.

Brave voice but will inevitably be drowned out in a sea of irrationality and xenophobia.
Worse still, she could well be silenced in future. There are already comments here calling her lecture a ‘Confucius Institute Broadcast’.

Thank you very much for Highlighting this very valid Issue that is not willing to go away. It is very Important to me. Finally someone intelligent speaks. Australia will be a much better place for everyone if the racist attitude can be removed in the elites, including themselves.
very insightful. many thanks.
Enjoyed and learn about the lecture from this channel. where is the ABC media? Where are the diversities of views?
PM S.Morrison is NOT exPM P. Keating, that says it all. Australia needs another giant PM like Hawk or Keating to carry her to the 21st century.
Well spoken Louise. Enjoy your new post-university life...:-)
Great speech and well said on many points.
In my opinion, this is a classic "exit" talk. I do not know Louise, but agree with almost all of her thoughts re the treatment of the CN diaspora in AU. She is also a born comic!

If Australia and China works together the whole world win

Great speech👍 Exceot that, professors, at least try using your research power to dig up the original source of that "1 million Uighurs in concentration camp" claim (you will find it came from a BED sponsorred guy with no proof when interviewed by a china bashing youtuber) Don't take for granted anyone's info, do your own research, that's all what we expect from your excellent intellectuality and conscience 🙏
Great talk.
What?!!! Australia and Asia in China's Century?!!! It should be: Australia in Asia's Century.
I hope the Australian leaders will come to their senses or they will be left behind
Great rave!

This Chinese officials in Muslim countries probably mastered their knowledge in the Holy Qur'an better than me who was born as a Muslim
But I don't envy them but I am humbled by seeing this exceptional Chinese officials doing well to be showing their hard work and commitment to excellence to learn Somali or Arabic language or any foreign languages is difficult as I remember my own experience but I think that the Chinese are very detailed oriented and highly well trained in foreign languages and cultures to be at a world class top level today is shown by sending their most sophisticated and capable China official to foreign nations must be fully funded and supported by their Government in this area being required to be at mastery skills before any Chinese official can get a chance to represent their country to another foreign countries via Foreign office Government posting.
Mohammed was into little boys, like all muslims
Pls someone explain to the Australian Government what is Typical Schizophrenia.

Suppressing HK student protest by police is wrong, genocide of Uyghurs is fake. Otherwise great lecture.
Australia is still suffering from a colony mindset only this time US is the master
The best thing for Australia is to pray for an act of God whereby the Island can be drifted to off the coast of US.
I hate it when academics start their presentation with prayers. We live in a secular world, please don't start with prayers.
Totally agree.
@@hanzohattori9576 Nice try. Insisting on an absence of religion is not forcing a religion. Religion is a private and personal thing.
@@questworldmatrix it's not. Everyone wears their way of life on their sleeves. Certain ones are hypocritically forced to stay quiet but times are changing.
Excellent lecture! However, paying acute attention to Hong Hong and Xinjiang, and uniting together to fight the CCP is even more important. Democracy is threatened everywhere in the world.
Really look into who keeps harping about hk and xinjiang. All propaganda set by the american military industrial complex. Don't be a sheep
@@qave One can't really take information for granted these days and assume that events that enter into media narrative and political truth are actually real, or as described. When you drill down into the Xinjiang and HK issues as they exist in Aus and the West you find a stunning lack of evidence, a preponderance of maximalist claims, shoddy sources like Adrian Zenz and ASPI, and a deafening lack of context, all orchestrated by the usual suspects around obvious political agendas.
You think CCP is your enemy? What a joke.
Well said Qing Cha, for those of a certain political agenda it is easier to rubbish such claims as political propaganda then to seek the truths you mention.
To cast HK protests as pariahs completely misses the real agenda.
A free democratic society that en masse displayed a beholden resilience for the conflicts of the past, that fought for freedoms against authoritarian governments of the past.

@@Johnny-fok what would you call them then?
Australia’s relationship with Asia is getting stronger. We are now closer to Japan, phillipines, Vietnam, Singapore, Indonesia because we all are sick of China bullying other countries out of the South China Sea and them trying to control other countries economy’s. does anyone not realise China is the common denominator that is starting all the unrest in these countries.
Well said by Professor Louise Edwards but this truthful words are not welcome in Australia. Sorry.
