I absolutely agree. We have a gigantic issue with HVAC, our governing body (EPA) doesn't enforce nor hold HVAC contractors/ HVAC shops accountable for extreme violations like what Tim is detailing. You can be a technician, installer, manager and GM yet if you're not the owner of the shop then trying to enforce doing the right thing can cost you a career depending on who you're employed by. You can prove to the owner how a Manual S/ Manual J will produce everything they want; lack of call backs, extremely happy clients, more sales, produce talented HVAC professionals that will be loyal to you due to you conducting your organization professionally yet until they are FORCED to do the right thing there will always be more time spent in teaching HVAC professionals how to sale incorrectly sized HVAC systems to clients not in the know, and/or turn would-be talented technicians into the fall guy/set up man for the glorified salesperson that prides themselves on getting a lot for doing very little work.

@@adonnisgraves6464 agree. However the epa only governs refrigerant other thsn that our industry is largely unregulated, which is probably a good thing but it leaves the owner to their own ethics and, well, you know how that goes.

Any programs or apps you personally use in your experience that give you accurate results?

    👍 100%
San Francisco, California Bay Area with its microclimates where we could have 50 to 68° average temperatures on the coast that reach 98% humidity every morning when you wake up and go 7 miles on the other side of the little hill where the fog burns off and can hit 75 to 80° and just go 3 miles across the bridge and it hits 90° in the summertime.
The coastline house only needs 18,000 BTUs to cool it on the hottest summer days if it’s gone through a retrofit insulation .
Where the exact same house that’s across the Bay Bridge that was also built back in the 1920s or 40s and never insulated will need a 3 ton for the summer days .
Just finished a 1200 square-foot house in San Francisco where 12,000 BTUs of cooling is too much for the majority of 340 days of the year . And that’s only for the years that have multiple day heat waves more than three days of heat in a row that only happened every few years. And 80°F is considered heat in San Francisco.
