What a performance !! Train stopped in its own length, the brakes well tested. Waiting for first appearance reminded me of the old Peter Hands' recordings on vinyl, brilliant. Great shots of all the action, especially the restart, thank you. 👍👍👍👍👍
Awesome video! Not often you can get a video of the same train at both old hill and the canal!!. I nearly went to the canal as well but just stuck to Langley and Bescot.
Thanks, it did have me puffing & blowing though, glad I could still hold the camcorder steady!! Think the gradient there is 1 in 51 and on a curve, so not an easy start.
Thanks Mike. Good to see you the other day, even if only briefly. No time for trains at the moment, too much to do in the garden - haven't even watched my own video of the 20s yet!!!
Thanks Liam. Certainly better than the usual "single shot" video, two very occasionally, but three - first time ever. I do remember photographing a diesel hauled railtour southbound at Stafford, then caught a train back home & waited at Old Hill, as I got there before it was due. Obviously took quite a while for the tour going round Bescot way & I was lucky with a quick change at Galton Bridge.
@@SharposWorld i bet you’ve had a run round then previous, i’m usually running round worryin i’m going to miss it and run round trying to get a good spot too lol
Thanks, just one shot of Britannia going up through Old Hill would've been a great event, but to get the extra shots by the bridge over the canal and a chance to see it again at Langley Green made it a day to remember.
It was a worrying moment as I filmed it at Old Hill, fortunately it was still in sight and nothing obvious had gone wrong. I had watched the Kidderminster railcam & saw the 37 shunt the stock, then 70000 set back to couple up, so I knew what to expect.
@@MrDorbel Just did a quick search, seems it had a white cab roof for "Royal duties" back in 1952. Also when it ran many years ago on the SVR, a small image of it with white cab roof here:- www.sharpos-world.co.uk/cpg/albums/myfolder/Photos/Rail/Std-pres/svrslides1/normal_svr031.jpg
Sorry Luke, didn't see you, only got there a couple of minutes before it arrived, just time to get over the bridge, didn't have time to change my glasses - fortunately it came out OK.
I had no idea on that, but did a search and it was one of the sectors of Trainload Freight. Have a look at:- en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trainload_Freight - and it will give a bit more information.
Looking at the wheelspin when it moved off, it could have been due to the brakes coming on on the 37, perhaps. Perhaps its AWS was triggered by the TSR warning
Think it's the same thing that happened to a 66 running light engine up there a few weeks ago, triggered AWS system and the diesel stopped in the section for 5 or so minutes.
The diesel had come down from Crewe with one of the coaches earlier in the day, then at the rear of the train, without assisting, it gave Britannia a load similar to a 6 coach train. As this was the first main line run after testing at the SVR, if Britannia had failed for any reason on the run to Crewe then the diesel could be used to shunt the train to a loop or siding somewhere so as not to delay following trains too much.
Thanks, not sure if the 37 did give a gentle shove just to get moving again. There was a train from Worcester following it, they couldn't waste time, the unit was on time at Cradley but 4 late at Rowley.
Thanks, that's probably the answer. I filmed a 66 at Cradley on Jan 12th, going quite fast, then noticed later on that it lost 10 minutes or so between Cradley & Rowley, booked time for a unit around 5 minutes!! Think the 66 had been stopped for exceeding the 40 mph limit at Old Hill.
@@SharposWorld when I was a driver on the eastern region sometimes you would get a temporary speed restriction the AWS would sound and you would go to cancel it and couldn’t then the emergency brake would apply nothing you could do then you get the lost time 👍 check out delticmad1 that’s what happened with deltic pulling 5 locos 👍
Maybe a warning that needed to be cancelled, we can but guess. I filmed a Class 70 on a freight going through there & both trains took 15 seconds to cover the same section of track I could see, but the 70 wasn't brought to a stand.

Thanks Robert, usually it would be just a passing shot, but with another shot by the canal bridge & at Langley Green it was a great day for me.
When she went off at 1:52 it really sounded like the RBMN 425, one of the loudest steam locomotives in the world.
Great, an all action fun packed video of my favourite engine.....loved it.
Thanks, I think my recent Brit videos have been the most popular of all, in such a short space of time.
Awesome video! Not often you can get a video of the same train at both old hill and the canal!!. I nearly went to the canal as well but just stuck to Langley and Bescot.
Thanks, obviously my lucky day.
Amazing video and love the sound this my favorite steam locomotive
Thanks, hopefully we'll see more of this loco in action later this year.
Yes, as another video shows, it looks like it was stopped by an unexpected AWS warning for a temporary speed restriction just past Old Hill
Ahhh, that could be the answer, a 66 running light was brought to a halt there some weeks ago. It was going quite fast through Old Hill station today.
Superb video, Britannia nicely captured at all the locations.
Thanks Bob, and I didn't get bowled, makes a change!!
Love the sound of those safety valves lifting, definitely an unplanned stop!
It was certainly something different on this occasion, so much more than just a train speeding past.
Great video well done for getting to the different locations. 😄👍
Thanks David, I was puffing & blowing a bit running up the road to the canal bridge.
Great video and thanks for running to catch the restart at Old Hill! Looked like it struggled to get going again!
Thanks, it did have me puffing & blowing though, glad I could still hold the camcorder steady!! Think the gradient there is 1 in 51 and on a curve, so not an easy start.

Sounding unreal
Glad to see the brit back on the mainline

Thanks Tom, just happened to be in the right place at the right time.
@@SharposWorld Yeah 100%, I was only just up the line for this but you definitely got the right place for it! Kind regards Tom
I'm guessing as there was an aws ramp after the signal the Crew missed a fixed warning and it dropped the brakes in after no response
There is a 40mph limit just before Old Hill station, last thing you want on a 1 in 51 gradient - you just want to get to the top of the bank!!
Very interesting video. Thanks !
Thanks. Looks like it's on another test run today from Crewe to Shrewsbury, think after my excitement yesterday I should stay home today!!!
That Mk 3 made for a bit of a surprise!
Glad the stop (seemingly) wasn't for a problem with the old girl, good to see her back.

Awesome vid !. Look at the new riveting around the 37's window as well.
Thanks, the 37 looked very smart as well.
Saw Britannia in about 1961 at Barking of all places! Don't know what it was doing there, but unforgettable.
Was that in the days when it had a white cab roof?
@@SharposWorld Not so far as I recall, no.

Certainly looks as if brakes came on when regulator was open.
Excellent video
Thanks Barrie, I certainly picked the right place to film it!!
Emergency break test? Since it seemed random might have been that.
Think it's the same thing that happened to a 66 running light engine up there a few weeks ago, triggered AWS system and the diesel stopped in the section for 5 or so minutes.
Why was the diesel rubbish at the back?
The diesel had come down from Crewe with one of the coaches earlier in the day, then at the rear of the train, without assisting, it gave Britannia a load similar to a 6 coach train. As this was the first main line run after testing at the SVR, if Britannia had failed for any reason on the run to Crewe then the diesel could be used to shunt the train to a loop or siding somewhere so as not to delay following trains too much.
Is it just me who thought a loco couldn't stop that quick and the wheel slip but the old girls got it in her after some years being stuck inside.
It did seem a bit of an emergency brake application. Not the best place to restart a train, think it's about 1 in 51 grade there.
Love the sounds as she got going again at the canal bridge. Was the 37 pushing ?
Nice footage. Thanks for uploading.
Thanks, not sure if the 37 did give a gentle shove just to get moving again. There was a train from Worcester following it, they couldn't waste time, the unit was on time at Cradley but 4 late at Rowley.

No, it seems OK, on a test run from Crewe today.
@@SharposWorld thank god for that
Was that your motor parked on the corner by the iron bridge? 😎
No Geoff, I had gone to Old Hill by train, had to rush over the footbridge and run up the road to the bridge.
Very good video :)
Thanks Simon.
Oh what a wonderful sight pity about rubbish tin can at rear.
Know what you mean Timothy, but if I had to choose a diesel then a 37 would be at the top of the list.
Someone may have accidentally nudged the airbrakes.

Thanks Tim, looking at your videos reminds me it has been many years since I was at Carlisle, 2008 I think it was. You've got some good videos there.
Might have just been Standing Start Test on Incline !! 🙄
Don't think so Roger, regulator seemed to be open as the train slowed down, if it was planned I'd have thought shut off steam & stop gradually.
you didn't complete your title the 37 being dragged
Sorry.
@@SharposWorld cheers!, It is a LOADED test for the Brit
Well 37 was under power could of been an issue with the brake
As Andrei mentioned the AWS warning, it reminded me a 66 was brought to a halt in that area a few weeks ago.
Think it was giving the Brit a helping hand to pull away again due to the slipping
Looks like the dark side almost claimed another victim!
Yes, was a bit worrying at first.
