    13:42 "So maybe he's being groomed with love in a way that's her morphing him into a stronger, more stable man to be feared". That is such a good analysis especially with the last few words you said to describe Fisk , "man to be feared". Daredevil is known as "The Man Without Fear". You just unknowingly created a poetic symbolism on the polar opposites between those two characters right there and I can't get that out of my head. This is so good, I love your analysis as a filmmaker to this and I feel like this helps me understand how to act out a scene cause I'd like to make a career as an actor on that so your perspective on these scenes really help me break it down. Keep up the great work!👍🏾

      Hey Shaun! First off, happy to hear you’re thinking about getting into the field of filmmaking brother. Second off, thank you for piecing that together! This comment rocks man, thank you for sharing!

      Thanks so much for the comment, acting is an ambition I'd like to take on, I went to theatre school for a time while currently studying psychology for university so I think that helps in terms of breaking down a character. Also for this season I think personally episode 10 is one of the best, I won't spoil it but it's one of the best because it's one of the most grounded episodes and illustrates so many parallels which can be broken down well from a filmmakers perspective so I'm looking forward to that reaction. Good fortunes 👏🏾

    When trying to interpret Vanessa's character, I find it helpful to remember that she's an art gallery owner who spends her days reviewing, analyzing, and interpreting works of art. At this point in the show, I don't think she has any particular motivations re: Fisk. Vanessa sees Fisk as an artist (which she says as much in episode 5), and the city as his clay to shape, sculpt, and mold to reflect his vision. So I think Vanessa is simply fascinated by Fisk as she would be any artist, and feels privileged by the opportunity to watch this "artist" create his pièce de résistance before her very eyes.

    The way they handle comedy in this series as well is perfect. The reveal of Fisk actually being able to speak the Chinese language (I can’t spell the name I apologise) and Wesley just looking away for a second realising he just wasted his time telling Fisk what she was saying was brilliant. The Fisk and Wesley relationship is outstanding and is really enjoyable and even though they are evil they have a sense of nice-ness to each other like a person would with their best friend. It’s outstanding three dimensional writing for characters and makes them more relatable which can intimidate the viewer even more because they are more grounded in reality and it seems realistic that you could see a Wilson Fisk in the streets and that is scary.

      I don’t think so. Vanessa is his only saving grace in the show and the comics. In the comics he actually leaves his life of crime because elf Vanessa. He loves his family more than evil and money. I was hoping they would go this route as well with him in the show . But he shows his softer and more loving side to a Vanessa. So he’s not all bad

    I like the question you asked about Vanessa and how she's possibly grooming him; that got me thinking about how they may be influencing each other. All the times I've watched and rewatched this series, I had never put tooooo much thought into her character -- I just took her to be one of those people who's attracted to "damaged" people, that she likes his complexity and disposition. And in her attraction to him, she supports him by "grooming" him to be the best he can be. But while thinking about that, particularly at the end of this episode I now wonder if he's also indirectly grooming her. The way that she, after Fisk tells her about killing his dad, is all jolly the next morning and making herself at home in his condo, and the way she's constantly smirking and like excited to be dressing him up in his walk-in closet, I wonder if she's changed. I think it was during their first date that she mentions she doesn't care about his power, and I totally believe she was being truthful. But after seeing the end of this episode, I wonder if she's actually toeing that line a lot closer than I had previously thought and she's changed and been somewhat groomed -- that her attraction isn't just to his complexity, but she's now excited to be partners with a guy about to visibly exert his power over New York.

    • @JamesVSCinema
      @JamesVSCinema  4 роки тому +7

      It’s slowly seeming as if she’s grooming him. Whether it’s for her own goals or to just help his..traits of that have been shown with their relationship!

    I love this episode. The parallel between Fisk and Murdock is so clear; both have very physical fathers, who taught them lessons that they carry into their lives, offered them alcohol at a young age, both feel responsible for their fathers' deaths and both feel a deep connection to his city. I love the trope of the hero and villain being two sides of the same coin, and Fisk and Murdock are the best pair that demonstrate that

    There is no way to say enough about Vincent D'Onofrio's acting as Fisk. He inhabits the role and turns something well written but potentially trite into a monumental study in character. One of the best character actors out there.

  • @Foksuh
    @Foksuh 4 роки тому +14

    This episode really gets into what made this show and season so incredibly good.
    They really take their time building up Fisk as a character, show off his motivations and goals as well. Too often the bad guys are bad just for the sake of it, they're not given enough time as people and instead just show up to do horrible things to be hated for. Fisk is still human, a terrible one in many ways but at least we get to see other sides of him..
    Vincent D'Onofrio was a perfect cast for the role.

    This show does a great job of holding a mirror up to Matt with the villain. They both grew up loving their home city, they both have anger issues, they both were very heavily influenced by their fathers (who both lose a lot). If their families were switched, Matt could very easily have ended up being Fisk. And then on top of being a warped image of what the hero could have been, Fisk is also a well written, complex character in his own right.

    xD and this is why I love the Wilson Fisk Kingpin persona. It's a whole different approach to what "bad guys" were in the 90s and early 2000s in movies and tv shows.
    I mean. He's still a messed up person and incredibly intimidating. But with the reason of how he became like that, he doesn't just become 'some evil person' you want to see destroyed. If you now put him next to a random other antagonist with no back story --> you'll want him to win.
    And you actually understand his motivation for cleaning up Hell's Kitchen AND why he takes such a radical approach to it.
    It's crazy xD
    (ps: I am one of those fools who believed Vanessa genuinely loved him. Went along with his very obvious big flaws. And decided to roll with making him a better bad guy for the sake of love. xD I know it's cheesy. But I want to believe in a genuinely flawless woman like that xD)
