I dont think Bhrikuti took "Thanka" to Tibet. Thanka was inspired/ influenced by Pauba art(Tradiional Newar art). Bhrikuti took Artisans from Nepal Valley(now Kathmandu Valley) as dowry who helped to establish Jokhang monastery, the first Buddhist monastery in Tibet.

The Rai Limbus' Pragmatic Betrayal: The Origins of the Gurkha Soldiers
The Rai Limbus, rather than the Lepchas, Bhutias, Chettris, Brahmins, Newars, or Tamangs, became the renowned Gurkha soldiers serving in the British Army. The key to understanding this lies in the Limbus' opportunistic betrayal of both Nepal and Sikkim, which allowed them to curry favor with the British invaders.
In the early 19th century, the newly unified Nepalese kingdom under the Gorkha rulers began expanding its territory, including the conquest of the neighboring kingdom of Sikkim. This brought Nepal into conflict with the British East India Company, which controlled much of northern and eastern India. When Nepal's incursions into British-influenced areas escalated, the Company launched an invasion of Nepal in 1814.
During the ensuing Anglo-Nepalese War, the British forces encountered fierce resistance from the skilled and determined Gorkha soldiers of Nepal. However, the Rai Limbus, a minority ethnic group in Sikkim, saw an opportunity to betray both their Sikkimese Lepcha and Bhutia countrymen as well as their fellow Gorkhali in Nepal.
Rather than fighting alongside their Sikkimese or Nepalese neighbors, the Rai Limbus actively assisted the British in their campaign to subjugate the Sikkimese kingdom. They helped the British make Sikkim a British protectorate and forced the kingdom to allow British trade with Tibet. The Limbus also aided the British in annexing the strategically important region of Darjeeling, where the indigenous Lepcha and Bhutia peoples were subsequently treated as second-class citizens.
In doing so, the Limbus betrayed not only their Sikkimese neighbors, but also the Gorkhas of Nepal who had previously granted them autonomy and Kipat land rights. The Limbus were opportunists, willing to side with the British invaders against both the Gorkhas and the Sikkimese in order to curry favor and advance their own interests.
Furthermore, the British likely viewed the Limbus as more malleable and "primitive" compared to the more advanced Lepchas, Bhutias, Newars and Tamangs. This perception may have further justified the British's use of the Limbus against the other ethnic groups in the region. The Limbus' lack of strong historical ties to either Nepal or Sikkim also made them more willing to serve as British proxies.
In contrast, the Newars and Khas peoples, who had deep roots in Nepal and shared cultural and religious ties with the Gorkha kingdom, would have been far less likely to betray their fellow Hindus and Nepali brethren. Their refusal to collaborate with the British invaders likely cost them the opportunity to become Gurkha soldiers.
Until 1914, the British had primarily recruited Gurungs and Magars into the Gurkha regiments. However, after witnessing the Limbus' willingness to betray both Nepal and Sikkim, the British came to see them as more reliable and malleable proxies that could be used against the other ethnic groups in the region. This is why the Rai Limbus, and not the Lepchas, Bhutias, Chettris, Brahmins, Newars or Tamangs, became the predominant recruits for the Gurkha forces.

incomplete research and a wrong map of the Qing dynasty. Tibet was already under the control of the Qing dynasty during the Sino-Nepal War. Nepal fought and lost against the Qing. The reason why some Nepalese soldiers managed to infiltrate parts of Tibet was that the Qing were busy fighting against other foreign powers and engulfed in civil war. They never took Nepal seriously.

Nepal should taken Tibet like, mustang and manang, we will under nepal 🇳🇵 . Not under ccp.

    • @pranavr9783
      @pranavr9783 5 днів тому +1

Tinet under ccp because what they did to nepal. Panseng lama asked for peace nepal said ok. Foe the cost of war some compensation. Tibet agreed to pay in instalement. Nepal left all their captured land instead tibet invade nepal with help of qing empire. A true budhist will know of the karmic and dharmic debt. Something nepali kepe as their core value janma bomi, dharma bomi, karma bomi. With blood nepali took those land , the vow or promise to payment nevee fullfilled. It is like tibet is under a financial crisis. Panseng lama who asked for peace under house arrest. Tibet was under qing for 2 year after they invade nepal. As qing also faced huge loss in battle. I mean no disrespect but in my eye there is a karmic debt. As well as dharmic. I am by no mean educated like the great lamas but even they should have known. Imagine you tell a bank you will pay bavk the loan and bank givw you the land. No intrest, no payment. What happen to land it no longer becomes tibet. The reincarnated panseng lama still faces that burden. I mean no harm and please i am just informing, i take no pleasure in tibet. You can also see it in this example tibet mocked and stole ( from nepali meechant) , i mean nepal also had problem with curency like silver. So nepal retaliate and took tibet land just like a child taking another child food. Instead of this food tinet offerd another food to nepal which nepal agreed and tibet got another biger child and tibet and qing both hit nepal and fiaght started. Now qing want nepal to pay for tributary and nepal was ok as long as a child can do trade with bigger child. Tibet in other hand lost alot of energy and qing took tibet under and made him work for 2 year. In all the minus and add there is still that promise od payment that never came to nepal. The land nepal gave back will probably never come back to nepal. So in the end karma is the reason. Tibet had so much wealth i am sure thegreat leader who teach about karma and dharma had plenty of time to see this. I think it is logical. I donot know the inside od what oanswng lama did and that , how qing joined tibet to fight nepal. But i do know that many lifes were lost, many tear fell and thus has impacted both nepal tibet and qing empire. 1959 tibet taken by china. 1962 nepal flag in constitution of nepal 1962 china invaded india.

Very informative video. However, Nepal's interaction with Tibet has had an unsettling side to it too, which I feel should have been added. For instance, the opium trade that the rulers were conducting during the Quinquennial Mission. Especially later, when they (Nepali rulers) knew that selling contraband products was banned in China (Mainland and Tibet). Furthermore, the status of girl children and how they were left in Tibet without permits in Nepal, those born from Nepali merchants and Tibetan women, are also necessary angles to explore.
Of course, I understand that exploring history as a common practice has been about the history of rulers or those in power. However, history also entails common people; it is in people-to-people relationships (P2P) that the historical relations between two countries shine. I also request your great research team to look at history from this perspective too.
But this video was a great introduction to our other neighbor. Great material for the younger audience to get a basic idea of Nepal-China relations. I hope you make great content ahead. Good luck!

Factually, the statement of Nepali army not capable of facing tibet/chinese soldiers is wrong. When the chinese/tibetian army began its assault, the bulk of the Gorkha army was on the conquest of Garwhal, thus immediately a letter was sent from capital to commanders to call back the Gorkha army to face the invading army. Meanwhile, the strategy of slowing down the invading forces with light confrontation and retreat was used. However, by the time invading army reached betrawati, their strength started to falter because their soldiers started abandoning the army due to many reasons such as food getting scarce, monsoonal conditions and so on. Thus, invading commander thought it was better to ask for a treaty instead of continuing this any longer.
P.S. It took Gorkha army around 30 days to reach back to Kathmandu from Garwhal.

8:02 Correction: Gorkhali Army didn't capture Tashilhunpo in 1788-89 war. Indeed, Tashilhunpo is 200 km far from Shekar Dzong, the farthermost point till which Gorkhalis reached. They were resisted by Tibetan there, and we retracted, retaining control over the four border districts, namely Nyanang (Kuti), Rongshar, Kyirong (Kerong) and Dzongka (Jhunga).
Tashilhunpo Monastery was plundered in 1792, indeed. It was of prime significance given its status as the seat of Panchen Lama, the second-most pivotal figure in Tibet after Dalai Lama. Thus, the plunder was taken seriously by the Tibetan authorities, and they quickly sought Chinese assistance, ultimately forcing Nepalese to retreat.
