- Marshall Gilkes performs his composition "Fresh Start" together with the WDR BIG BAND. Recorded as part of the concert "Fresh Start" at WDR JAZZCLUB / Cologne in November 2022.
From 2010 to 2014 Marshall Gilkes was a member of the WDR Big Band, since then he comes to Cologne frequently with new material. With "Fresh Start" he reports back as trombonist, composer and bandleader: "A lot of the music I write these days is inspired by people and places, especially my two kids."

As I pressed play I felt the same kind of feeling I had when listening to a live big band once. It's the kind of feeling you get when you are invested by the sheer pressure of the moving air that can only be experienced when you are close to the sound of a big number of wind instruments. I wish every human being could have this experience at least once in their life as there's nothing quite like it. Music is a gift to humanity and a live big band is an even more special kind of gift. Happy holidays and thanks for the great experience of these extraordinary musicians.
