My wife and I just got done replacing my brakes on my dual axle trailer and replaced all the bearings,,Just watched your video just to make sure i didnt miss anything,,,,We did Good
I just replaced my Lippert electric brakes on my 5200 lb Axel for the first time. I followed your instructions step by step. Thanks for taking the time posting this video. New subscriber. 👍
Enjoyed your video! Thanks for going over the electrical connectors. A lot of people skip steps that they think are common knowledge. The only thing I would add is how to verify the brakes are actually working after making the connections. Show using a multimeter with the trailer hooked up to the truck, etc.
Thanks for showing those electrical connectors. Everyone else just skips past that part and I’ve never seen them before. Wasn’t sure if I was supposed to strip the wires first or what.
When you are making your electrical connections from the brake assembly to the jumper wire that goes across the axle you should have got rid of those old butt connectors. I have learned from experiences in the past, you want as little connections as possible and when making your connections. The more butt connectors and the more connections you have the more opportunities for one of those connections to fail and you will be chasing electrical shorts and pulling your hair out trying to find it, ask me how I know?
Great video bro but please don’t use those crimps they hold dirt and corrosion fast . Parts store sells crimps that are heat shrink crimps they work great
I ordered self adjust brakes and company sent me 2 left! 🙄🤦🏼♂️ but I did email them and they sent me a right backing. Figured change everything since my seals leaked or broke, or idk maybe I installed and over greased them 🤷🏼♂️ we’ll see with new set.
Great video!!! Watched a few times now. I’m about to change out my brakes and bearings and wondered if dexters and lipperts are interchangeable? Do you have to match the axel manufacturer? I have a 2021 Kaufman low profile 50’
Hello my friend . Thank you for your videos bud .... how frequently I should pt new grease on the bearings, and how do you know yu eed tochange yur breakes?? Thank you
The owners manual for your axle will give you the recommended maintenance intervals. You can find them online if you don’t have one. Most of them recommend every 10-15k miles I grease mine once per month. If I notice anything loose or hear something I don’t like I’ll pull the hub and check the bearings. You can pull the hub and check your brake pad thickness at any point but typically you’ll notice your pads are getting thin if you’re having to adjust your brake controller higher than normal in order to feel them working like normal. 👍
I use Lucas. Switch between Red N Tacky and the green Heavy Duty grease depending on what’s in stock. Haven’t had any issues with either one so I just get what’s available when I stock up. As far as a grease gun goes I got a couple from lowes. Nothing fancy. I don’t even think they were $20.
Its just a question which always comes in my mind. What “if” a crash involve failed brakes. The insurance will demand work order from a licensed trailer mechanic to make sure they were done right. How would that be in the situation where you replaced it yourself?
I have tandem 7k lippert axles on my Diamond C trailer. The brakes have seemed weak from day 1. I had a shop look at them and the replaced 1 axle because the adjuster seized. Have you had any issues or was this simply routine mainteance?
I’ve noticed that on both trailers I’ve had to manually adjust the brakes several times before they were where I wanted them to be. The 7k brakes are just almost too small for what I put them through. It’s just a constant battle to keep them tight.
Question? I need to replace my brakes on my 5th wheel camper. I'm looking at MAT electric brakes or Dexter electric brakes. The MAT are $50-$58 and the Dexter are $180-$190. Other then the price what is the difference? Thank you for any advice you can give.
Not at all. Sounds like the trailer place is doing 2 things here. 1. Making a brake replacement cost 3x what it should. 2. Being lazy. They don’t want to remove all of the components and then put them all back in. They’re being extremely lazy here and in turn ripping you off. They want you to pay for a full hub assembly so they can just remove the old and throw new ones on to save themselves time. My advice for you is to never call that place again.
Anybody know if RV trailer electric brakes are like this. I have a keystone hideout 5th wheel. I'm having trouble locating parts. I wouldn't know how to find out what rating the axles are.
This video is right on time. I was just looking for a video today on how to go over brakes, bearings and seal replacement. Is it any different with oil bath?
Only difference is the hubcap and rear seal. Instead of wiping everything with a paper towel you’ll need something to drain the oil into...and paper towels lol. Good luck!
@@LoadMizer Thank you! This job looks fairly easy. Do you have any tips for fixing a bent side toolbox on a trailer.. it is welded on there but it got a bit bent. I was thinking of putting another smaller toolbox inside it and bolting it on there as it might be an easier fix. what are your thoughts?
Question, just connected my brakes but I'm not getting any gains...might you know what the problem might be? It's saying the trailer is connected but when I press the toggle the number of gains show but the brakes aren't applying
They’re most likely wired backwards at the brake. I had that happen to 2 of mine. Since the wiring isn’t marked on the brake (they’re just 2 black cables). If you have an ohmmeter it would help but if not just find the ones that aren’t working and switch the wires positive and negative.
Hi Im from Louisville KY I just bought 3 cars Appalachian trailer with 7k axles is this brake works on mine ? If not how will I know the right ones please ?
Great video. I live in N. Cal (but not for long). I bought a used triple axle trailer (7k torsten lipperts) for my move to AR and took it to a local shop to me checked out (because I don't know squat). Their shop rate? $125 per hr. Of course, I needed new everything x 6, so Ka Ching, $1,300 in parts and $500 in labor = $1,800 . Straight out of the shop, both of my brakes on the front axle are completely locking up. Any ideas? The shop didn't mention seating the brakes. Maybe I just need to do that.....
Brother it’s always great watching your contents and explanation!. I have a quick question, I have done my own authorities, I bought a truck(Ram 2021 3500 dually), equipments, insurance, my question is I am want to do non cdl, so my truck on the sticker says that the GVWR is 14000 lb, so the trailer should be 12000 lb and the total is 26000 lb so how much load I can load?
Thank you man. It’s going to depend on how much you’re setup weighs empty. You’ll need to get a scale ticket and then take the math from there. I break it down in this video ua-cam.com/video/1SlcvHOyYQg/v-deo.html
Great video. You are familiar with these brake mechanisms. Could the magnet arm be suitably used to fix a pull cable for a mechanical operated parking brake?
I’m not quite sure on that one. I do know that the arms aren’t very stable and the brakes most definitely rely on the hub to keep them perfectly straight. I think you’d risk bending the arm attaching anything to it. You wouldn’t be able to pull it straight because of the hub so you’d have to drill into the back of the housing. Wheel chock is much easier 👍
@@LoadMizer Thanks. My spec requires a secondary brake (emergency and parking) that has to be held in place mechanically. In other words a electrical break away kit would not be sufficient. That is why I was asking the question.
O'Reilly's carries the backing plates in stock at most locations. Just FYI for when you're on the side of the road. I had an adjuster brake coming down pilot mountain. Well actually it was after pilot mountain near Asheville. And walked into O'Reilly's getting the part number and walked out
Part number EB01-125 and EB01-124. One is left and the other is right.. can't remember what one is what. Also in Kaufmans website you can get the manual for those axles. Any decent parts guy/gal can find what you need.
Thanks for sharing. Something not mentioned was that the failed grease seal results in grease getting into the magnet friction surface and fault propagates to complete loss of brake function. Fatal flawed design.
Ricky Is there any reason u chose Lippert over any other brand ? I have always used a knock off”Chinese brand” and they do ok .. What is the price of the Lippert part ? Good video man 👍
I guess it’s just my preference really. There are a few things as far as vehicles go that I always stick with name brand or OEM parts. Brakes, filters, tires, wiper blades and lights. I’ve tried to upgrade a lot of things over the years in a lot of vehicles and it almost never fails that when you try to go cheap on them, they either don’t fit properly or they don’t perform properly...or both. I just got burned too many times lol
For that price I will try the Lippert parts next time . I’m payin about the same price for “redline” parts. I will be very curious to see if there is a quality/lasting difference
Thanks for a very good video with out having to hear a bunch of foul language...I appreciate it.

It's nice and compact,

What about the broken seal? Doesn’t that need replaced? Or was the seal part of the brake assembly?
Yes sir any time I pull the hub I replace the seal 👍👍

Awesome video! How are you enjoying car hauling vs flat bed shot shot? Better pay or?
It’s better money for me staying closer to home than with freight. I think running the entire country that both setups can pay pretty similar.
this is awsome thanks foe the video!

Yes, Appalachian uses lippert axles. Dexter and lippert parts are interchangeable. These parts will work on both brands 👍

If you want to never have a blown seal, don't use the e-z lube zerk. It pushes the grease right past the seal.
You ain’t wrong! Lol 😂
But does it push it past the seal, or damage the seal? 🤔
@@georgehofgren6123 yes it does
