Miitopia’s decision to try and make the Dark Lord’s host redeemable makes me think the devs wanted to teach people not to so intensely hate whoever they originally picked for the role. As in, imagine somebody that absolutely hated the guts of somebody else and they made them the Dark Lord, and now the game’s telling them that they weren’t evil after all. I wonder if there are stories of this happening anywhere.
For the 3DS I made the Dark Lord my mom. I got the message, once the twist was revealed, which is why I later swapped out the mii to someone else that I'd actually want to forgive. 13 y/o me was just petty like that.
I selected someone I disliked as the Dark Lord. And yeah, funnily enough, a while after completing the game I reached out to them to at least be in good terms. (We had had a big discussion years ago). Now we are not friends and barely talk anyway, but at least we are at peace with each other.
While I do prefer the ending where you spare the dark curse, I do find it interesting that the game doesn't really fault you for choosing to destroy it. The Great Sage stands by your choice, and the curse itself thanks you for putting an end to its hatred and suffering. I kind of want to see more games like this, where the ending is entirely up to the player's moral decision, and neither choice is necessarily wrong.
@@jewelminess I feel like the game promotes the opposite values. It condemns you for killing any monsters or doing any bad deed, and will advise that you complete the pacifist route instead. Even if you reset, some characters(mainly Flowey) will acknowledge what you've done, and might even call it cowardly. It's not bad for that, though. On the other hand, at least to my knowledge, Miitopia never gives you a "bad ending"(not including game overs). The closest thing to that is the player choosing a hard path, or ending in a fight because of making a decision
@@Lucien_M yeah my weird brain just skipped over the "no right or wrong ending" part and immediately went to undertale lmaooo.. though the Neutral Ending in undertale is never necessarily "bad" unless you kill the wrong people, so I guess I could've been thinking of that
@@jewelminess Ooh, but that’s the thing. Toby made even the BEST possible neutral ending painful, which makes Flowey’s offer of a perfect ending that much more tempting.
@@Lucien_M I can't really agree- the game essentially punishes you for killing the curse by denying access to the final challenge, the Dread Tower. If you spare him, the Curse will present it to you and express how happy they are to have a face again. Which is especially heart wrenching if you killed them in your first run. And while you can go up to where you fought the Darker Lord and just get the other ending, meaning it's not locked forever, a lot of people won't try to go up there and realise there's extra content to unlock. Or want to, because you have to sit through the credits again.
@@CaliCosmicGal You should see Crocomire's skin melting from Super Metroid, or Pokemon being frozen for eternity in Sun and Moon. Now THOSE moments are VERY disturbing! And don't even get me started on the dark things in The Legend of Zelda or Kirby! : /
@@bugonboris6681 And that isn't the end of dark moments in Nintendo games. The majority of the more recent Pokedexes' entries descriptions are very disturbing, dark, or depressing. And let's not forget Splatoon takes place in the far future where humanity's arrogance brought an end to all mammals, including humans. And also, even Paper Mario games have dark moments. For example: In TTYD, as soon as you leave the port that you took a boat ride to, the first thing you see after leaving the place where you found Crump, you see in the center of Rogueport there's a noose-thing, like how in old times people were executed via the noose choking them to death. And the Japanese version of the same game is even darker. In one of the houses in Rogueport, only in the Japanese version, there's a chalk outline in the shape of a person, implying someone was murdered there and security left a chalk outline to mark where the body was. Even in the English version, the game makes references to death itself, such as Bobbery's love interest being revealed to have died while he was at sea, which filled him with such regret that he gave up sailing.
I always had the headcanon that you restore the dark curse's original face, and that the great sage telling you that you need to "give him a face" was just the game being meta and telling you it's time to customize one last mii. It is kinda confusing though but that's how I interpreted it :)
Maniacally laughing in beating the tower of dread in endgame on 3ds edit: changed tower of terror to tower of dread cuz i didnt know the english name lol
You know the dark lord is an honest great example on how well Miitopia does it’s casting. Now imagine you are an kid that plays Miitopia for the first time. You meet the person who is presented as this ultimate evil who do you think you would cast as him? Some kids might have their dark lord someone they actually fear. Then comes the “end” of the game where the dark lord is defeated but then the dark lord turns out not to be evil. Then later the ex-dark lord even helps you in the sky-scraper and you learn stuff about him. And when he is so nice and all you’re choose that was suppose to be someone fearful turns into someone nice and kind. Ofc miitopia is more popular for it’s possible amount of miis it can create but I just wanted to point out that Miitopia also might been some people adventure with themselves against this Dark lord that might have an connection to an person in their real life. I love the casting of Miitopia and I just wanted to share how great I think it is. Short version: The dark lord is great because he might been someone you feared in real life then he turns into an friend in the game.
Same with how the Great Sage is casted. Someone of that age might pick out a Celebrity to them, or the popular kid at their school, some person they think is perfect and flawless in every way. However, When corrupted by the curse, Which I think represents the hatred and troubles in a person’s life, we see they, too, turn evil. Goes to show that nobody is perfect and everyone has some weak spots. Funny that Miitopia of all games can be theorized this deeply. Say, are you too an INFP?
I made Ganondorf the Dark Lord (pretending I didn't know about what happens in the story when I do from the 3DS version I bought awhile back), but when I obtained a better Mii for him, I swapped it out for Ocarina of Time's Ganondorf, cause it looked abit more accurate. Which fits kinda, as there's this theory around somewhere, that states OoT's Ganondorf WAS not evil and just got corrupted in some way, which set him on the path of evil. A friend of mine told me that theory, but I don't remember who said it..
Fun fact: If you make a completely new Mii for the Dark Curse in the 3DS version the game won’t even let you name him, forcing the Mii to be annonymous. Edit: Woah! This many likes and not one comment? Strange.
I always imagined the Dark Curse as a default mii, (the one when you select male and don't change anything) because he's described as having a very plain face, What's a plain face? The Default Mii Face, So i chose that. Hell, My imagining of the mii is actually supported in the Switch port as there's a "unused" (it is technically used if you delete the mii playing the dark curse) Mii that's just the default mii.
What I did with the Dark Curse was give him the Default Mii's face! I just thought that would've been accurate to the description of how average he looked
Great video! Miitopia lore is interesting, especially the things that aren’t explained in game. -How do most of the inhabitants of Miitopia live medieval like lives, but then there’s also movie theaters, and later, highly advanced technology? -How do inns and outings work? With outings they can seemingly just walk there from anywhere in the world in less than a day. -How did the guardian spirit / god end up in an amulet, and why does a random person have said amulet? Well, it is a family heirloom, which would work if this was a guardian spirit tasked with protecting this specific family, but they also help you. They also seem to actually be a god that was only changed to “guardian spirit” in the American version of the game.
The dissonance of going on an outing is kind of funny. You are exploring a volcano, and then "Oh yeah that's a cinema right there" and yeah... how do you find one always nearby? also beach/fishing in the castle.
i think its safe to assume the guardian spirit is some ancestor of the worried mother, i dont think they’re inside the amulet, rather the amulet is a vessel for the spirit to communicate with whoever is in possession of it
When I made the Dark Curse’s mii, I decided that the reason why it casted away its own face was because it was the basic bland default mii face you get as a starter when you start from scratch. So to give him his own identity, I gave him purple eyes to define himself from the others.
I actually interpret creating the "new" dace for the Dark Curse as not making a new one, but shaping what he looked like prior to casting his face away, just like filling any other Mii role. The Carefree Guide in Greenhorne didn't "gain" a new face, you're setting what he always looked like.
With the game's ending, it ended up making me think that Nintendo was trying to give us some sort of moral with the whole idea of your own face. It made me think it said something like "Never hate yourself for what you look like." As for me, I don't like my own face at all. But even if I dislike myself for not just my face, but also my voice or many other reasons, it's never enough for me to fall into an abyss of despair and death. I still would rather live life even if I can't change the way I look or sound.
My headcanon is that whatever face you give the Reborn was his original face. I don’t think that’s too farfetched either, considering we do pretty much the same thing for the whole game, and pretend they’ve always been this way. No matter how interesting a face you give it, it’s always possible to shift the blame for loneliness on physical appearance. It’s... a flaw that we humans have that makes the Reborn connect so much with us. Of course, you could still give the Reborn a generic Mii face. 😂
I heard someone's theory that the dark curse is the original Mii character, explaining why he was so upset over his "plain, old, no good face" because everybody else gets cool looking faces
This game completely subverting players' expectations is one of the many reasons why I love it so much! It was nice to hear all at once about the Dark Lord's lore, thank you!
I find there’s more than one way one could interpret the idea of giving the Dark Curse a Face. Considering, the Great Sage never actually said it being a New Face and the reborn Mii reaction seem to suggest it recognizes its original face. There still leaves a lot to interpret for what really happen. When I picked a face for the Reborn Mii, I went with Mii Brawler from Smash. Funny enough his face kinda resembles the story that the Great Sage talks about when it was looking at the Mirror. It felt oddly fitting looking back.
When you save the dark curse, it says they are reborn, hinting they might have been reborn, with a new face. They maybe are suprised they got a new face, instead of their old one, hence why they say "my face...!"
Its funny, in the switch version of Miitopia all the npc's now have default faces and names for those who don't want/have time to change everyone. The dark lord is Stan, the great sage is Sophie, ect. However whats pretty interesting is the fact for the "curse" Mii's identity, the default if you chose not to make one, is actually the default mii youre treated with as a base for making a brand new mii from scratch in the Mii Maker apps. The short brown hair, blank stare, black eyes, and emotionless face with the "favorite" red shirt. That mii is actually given a back story because of this game and honestly he's the perfect Mii for the role. The idea his face is so "bland and normal" that he's ignored in-universe mirroring how in our world his face is used as a "blank canvas" to make entirely new faces from is actually pretty sad. 10:25 AAHHHH THATS MY MII FROM MY PLAYTHROUGH ON THE 3DS VERSION! I uploaded that to the Miitopoa Wiki! I feel special!
@@coo-coocoper7454 Hmm, I don't know about that, I think its more that its not gonna get a sequel for a little while at least as opposed to at all. I mean with that logic Crash 4 shouldn't have been made for at least way later than the N Sane trilogy. Plus this is just a port. I think its very possible that Miitopia 2 will come perhaps on a future console.
My head canon (even though it more than likely isn’t true) is that you do give the dark curse back his original face. I would have preferred though if when all the faces returned down to Miitopia that one lingered and then you realised that was the original dark curse’s face. Edit: Turns out I’m not the only one who thought that lol
I would check this video out, but I still want to play Miitopia spoiler free. I’ll come back here when I’m done the game. Edit: I finally finished the game, so I should be good to go watching this video.
if they wanted to fix the idea of making the new face to give to the dark curse, they could have made it so that you made it as a ??? face at the start of the game and you find out the face is for the dark curse at the end of the game if you pick the ending to do so.
that would have been nice another thing would have been to simple reword it to make it seem like you were giving them their face back instead of making a new one
"the lore of miitopia's dark lord" me who's been hyperfixated on miitopia since June 2020: *hmm yes interesting* also, i actually have an AU where the Ex-Dark Lord and the Great Sage were really close friends as kids, and then he got pissed at her when they were teens and he broke off their friendship so they didn't see each other until years later when he was the dark lord. i honestly get emotional over my own AU sometimes lmaoo, bc she recognized the dark lord as her friend but knew she had to fight him (which i intended to be a parallel to the end of the game when the protagonist has to fight their friend too) anyway im done infodumping lmaooo
Reading his comment reminded me of my headcannon between my ex dark lord and my great sage that they are sisters, with the ex dark lord having an inferiority complex to the talents and skills of her older sister, which leads her to take the deal with the dark curse to live up to her older sister, with one of the reasons why the great sage is going to stop the dark lord is to save her sister from the dark curse.
@@jewelminess I think making these two related made some interesting scenarios. For example, April, the ex dark lord could express her regrets over the deal she took which caused all the problems in the story and led her sister being possessed to the party. I could also imagine a scene after the dark lord is first defeated and the ex dark lord’s face is returned where May, the great sage, catching her sister into a hug after her journey fighting to save her sister from the curse, revealing that they were sisters to the heroes. It gives everyone a false sense of security before the dark curse tried to possess the main character, leading May to push them out of the way to protect them, getting possessed themselves.
Each major role teaches you (the player) something, with the dark curse being given a new face teaching you that, if you are completely unhappy with yourself, then its okay to change to be someone you can be happy as. in a way, subtle trans affirmation. alternative way of reading: The dark lord, meant to be casted as someone you fear or hate, is meant to teach you that perhaps your fear or hatred is misplaced The great sage is there pretty much specifically to teach you to seek the brighter side in people. The dark curse is to teach you that its better to change to be happy, than to suffer to stay the same.
I think the reason they gave him a new face is because he cast it off before. No one knows what it looks like, and it no longer exists. It probably faded away with his body.
So let me get this straight the Curse technically tore his own face off and it’s probably a mangled mess on the ground somewhere and grew so mad he became a vengeful monstrosity. Rated E for Every child’s nightmare
this video was great also ive had this thought for a while, what would happen if the curse possessed the protagonist? its not unheard of for rpgs to well, make their protagonists unavailable at a certain point but, i think its just an interesting what if thought, especially since you have to rescue your other party members faces plus i love the fact the great sage is possessed, like from a narrative perspective its great, like, i was enjoying the game before, but the dark lord fight and that twist made me adore this game back on the 3ds
Since the Dark Lord was aware of everything happening, maybe you just wouldn’t have any control of your character in battle, like they’re another party member?
me too. always wondered of that. though i do imagine that the sage teams up with the party members to save the protagonist. maybe there are a cutscene where the sage blames themselves for not saving the protagonist in time. the party members talk about how they miss the protagonist and is worried about them. maybe the protagonist tries to fight against the dark curse
I actually was planning on making an au with that. One of my party members is the protagonist cousin and I planned on using her for the protagonist role since they were close. Perhaps the great sage could join for awhile however somehow the dark curse weakens to the powers they had back in the Magma realm. (I want to make some explanation for why the great sage won't use all it's power. It's a WIP) I like @Kamira's ideas as well. Those cutscnece could make the mood sorta darker and you maybe feel desire to save their leader/friend/family
I remember first time I played this game I accidentally destroyed the dark curse. I thought "breaking the curse" sounded like turning the dark curse back into their former self. I didn't even know about the other ending til later.
I created a specific Mii with only a nose, just to give them the back story of 'they had no face so they decided to take others faces in spite and anger they they we're the only one without a face'. I'm glad I've now gotten the actual back story for the Dark Lord.
personally when it comes to assigning the curse a face in the 2nd ending i like to believe that what they end up with after the hero gives them one is actually just their original face (maybe with some minimal influence from the dark curse's design) and you assigning one to them was no different from when it was other characters having faces assigned to them personally i gave them a slightly modified version of the default mii with cyan hair and eyes that closer resemble the eye of the curse
also its probably not properly cannon but the Great Sage technically breaks the fourth wall because they say to your character something along the lines of: 'though i suppose he will need a face. though i trust this will prove no problem to you?' to which your character responds 'none at all!' idk i just think about that a lot lmao. though, i suppose the Great Sage could say that bc protag has seen so many faces; at least over 2000 if you fully complete every level (i think?). therefore protag does have a lot of experience with faces, just not with making them. also, i have a kinda headcannon that the reason that there's a lot of monsters with only parts of faces and the existence of Otherworld is because originally the Dark Curse was going to try and make themselves the greatest face so that no one would ever ignore them again. i mean it might also be because thats all they could do at first when they were less powerful, or a combination of both. i'm also thinking about the mental health implications of the Dark Curse's backstory. like, casting your face away... i may just be mentally ill, but that reminds me of something. also the fact that no one seems to pay attention to them; does this imply that they were neglected by their parents?? sorry for just kinda writing loads lol, im massively interested in Miitopia, specifically lore, and i don't get to talk about it much.
I also have a headcanon that this was a play made up and put on by the miis. If you watch the credits it shows the miis on a stage-esc setting. It also lists whom played which *_roles._*
with miitopia, you can give almost any of your characters lore. my serious soldier, known as old knight, is thousands of years old. he did the same thing that link did in breath of the wild, only a few hundred years longer, and can't even remember his own name. the only remnants of his past are his ancient gear and helmet, which look extremely technological for being thousands of years old. this means that the ancients in my miitopia lore are technologically advanced.
great video, loved it! when i saved the dark curse, i though about making the default male mii his body, since i though it fitted and name him adriano though i ended up picking another mii, but thinking now, i want to use the default male mii in the switch version. (since my headcanon for my world is that the switch version takes years after 3ds version)
The ending of the video was so sweet and heartwarming, I almost cried a bit. ;w; For a charming game as Miitopia, it sure has a beautiful message at its core. Another thing to note is that the Dark Curse must have really liked being the Dark Lord if he made the monsters that look like him in the post game. (Dark King, and The Replica Dark Lord ms respectively) I really enjoyed the video and I hope to see more Miitopia content from you! You did an awesome job! Maybe you can do one on the lore/tips/advice for the towers! :)
My headcanon for why you have to make a new face for the dark curse, is that his original face is pretty much lost to time. We have no idea what happened to his face when he cast it off and no one pretty much knows what he looked like since, well his backstory could've happened forever ago and his existence was slowly forgotten!
In the 3ds version of Miitopia, I made the Dark Lord Saki Hanajima from Fruits Basket because of her psychic powers. In the story of Fruits Basket, people are afraid of her because of her powers, so just like the manga/anime, Hanajima turns out to be a nice person! I also wish that the face you gave the Dark Curse was the face they used to have. I also always wished that the npcs would have the same gender as the mii you casted them as (a male fab fairy for example).
Here’s something else very interesting I found out you should consider an topic. The dark suns Japanese name is The Sun of Another World. Which implies that the dark lord might not have created it. Or he stole another worlds sun.
Honestly I think the true person that casted away his face to become the curse is most likely the default mii I mean think about it when have you EVER acknowledged this mii you've probably never once thought of using him in your party Never thought about using him to play boxing Never thought to give him his own apartment or friends You never thought of him at all For 14 years hes been neglected by everyone so abvously he casted away his face cause that was the main reason people never wanted too use him
Everyone here's talking about their heartfelt experiences with the Ex-Dark Lord in the second half of the game where meanwhile I casted MYSELF as the Dark Lord...
i ended up making an original character based entirely off of the dark curse and his story when i first finished the game on the 3DS and MAN he has evolved so far, but it all started with this game and i love it for that
Thankyou for this. I accidentally used the turbo button when you were being told about the first host of the Dark Curse, so I accidentally skipped over that story bit of him and his HP Banana factory. The turbo button, B in this game, is both a blessing and a curse, kinda like me with my knowledge and wisdom of videogame stuff. I get forced into helping others in my family, cause apparently, nobody else in the house knows how to work any electronics problems at all. Anyways, enough of my rambling of my life, I will go back to the previous topic, Miitopia. I gave the Dark Curse Miiverse's icon as a face, partially cause I miss Miiverse so much...
I noticed that the hero clothes and sometimes weapons all have a sun symbol on them, pretty much identical to the Darkest Lord's last transformation. I wonder if the darkest lord was a problem before and those clothes and symbol were made in his image
It's my head cannon that the dark curse is the default Mii. Why? Because every time you create a Mii, you change the default Mii into something else, making their face into something that you want, not what they had.
As someone who played for the ds one billion times I really want it for the switch. I believe that on the ds you can re face the dark Lord multiple times unlocking the locked content
Late to this video lol, but I had made my Dark Lord Magolor just because I thought the body structure was similar, and I actually made the Great Sage my sister. In the end it worked out, as the Ex-Dark Lord's outfit also fits Magolor, and Magolor himself is a character that gets redeemed. And my sister loves calling herself an evil overlord as a joke so it just brought the gag full circle there.
I suppose whoever the dark curse possesses, he gains clothes similar to the person he posessed. Because the ex-dark lord was wearing a with those big bumps. And his clothing is kind of ripped at the bottom. Same as the dark lord. As well as the great sage. Idk about the hair tho lol
Before I got into the lore of miitopia, i told my friend the dark lord isnt bad, he just wants monsters to have faces. I was right, he wasnt bad, he just felt neglected
The Dark Lord and Darker Lord also has something that they have… the pendant (or necklace.) When the Dark Curse possesses someone the same pendant (or necklace) happens to be wearing it. So, I think the Dark Curse’s main piece to rescue the possessed person as the Dark Lord is the pendant (or necklace.)
yes, we need more videos on miitopia's story! it may be pretty simple and surface level, but i feel like there's a lot to theorize about, especially the new lumos bosses
The thing I noticed while deciding to give the dark curse a face was that the cutscene made him look like the default mii Mark, so I just decided to give him back that face under the same name so he could find happiness even if his previous face was as average as he thought it was.
The dark lord is not just a mii you created to be the Dark Lord, actually, In the Miitopia wiki, in the "The Dark Lord" article, it says that it was originally a HP Banana fabricer, however he/she opened a box with the Dark Curse, possessing the mii.
For break the Curse yes it's not as great as the save the Curse one but the Curse still thanks you non the less so Save ending still the best one ( for Switch Dark Curse doesn't have a Default Role But I Assume if it did It Be Default Male Mii Design with no Changes and His Origin Name Would be Mii sense Dark Lord/Merchant name is Stan and Great Sage is Sophie having Dark Curse/Reborn Mii Fits as the Best Canon Name for Miitopia If you Try To Treat it as a Fully Original Story besides you and your Party Members)
Here's some spoilers I made Flowey the Dark Lord because I thinks it appropriate for him to be the main villain(Since he's the closest thing to the villain of Undertale.) Its still surprisingly appropriate as he have a Evil side and a Good side(Will changes his mii when he become good.) I have no plans of using Woodles from Mickey Mouse Clubhouse anywhere due to his lack of Personality/Face but that means its a perfect role for him since he never gain a face during the show, making him a Foil to Toodles from the same show(The Hero) who spends the first 2 seasons without one.
I like to think the enemies with only one face feature are from Miis who have the misfortune of having only one part of their face stolen (or each part of their face was given to a different monster)
@@donovanhadley2209 I do not know if it can happen to the nose exactly but you can definitely be born with lack of some needed parts. Some stuff that can happen is crazy. tbh ima share my only known lore so i think it was this guy who originally worked as a HP banana maker, found a voice saying "i'll make you the strongest being bla bla" and then he lost control and only got to see what the dark lord was doing
Regarding that ending bit, I would like to say that the Dark Curse's face is who knows how far away by now. In the same way you had to find the other faces throughout Miitopia, giving back his original face is going to require finding it, and who knows where it is at this point? It might have even been destroyed, if that's a thing that can happen in Miitopia. Just pointing it out :)
Kinda surprised that you didn’t mention the dark king as he seems to be the most complete replica of the dark lord made by the darker lord. Maybe to complete for the darker lord to handle to. Surprised you didn’t mention any of the dark lord replications.

This is really sweet and true!!

You are exploring a volcano, and then "Oh yeah that's a cinema right there" and yeah... how do you find one always nearby? also beach/fishing in the castle.
i think its safe to assume the guardian spirit is some ancestor of the worried mother, i dont think they’re inside the amulet, rather the amulet is a vessel for the spirit to communicate with whoever is in possession of it
The mix of medieval elements with modern technology feels like part of the games humor honestly
Probably because the people are high on technology but live in a rural environment.
ikr its so funny how you just travel with at least 4 party members but once at the inn, the whole party just teleports there lol
The Dark Lord's story genuinely makes me tear up, I may be stupid, but c'mon, it's really sad, poor lil guy
When I made the Dark Curse’s mii, I decided that the reason why it casted away its own face was because it was the basic bland default mii face you get as a starter when you start from scratch. So to give him his own identity, I gave him purple eyes to define himself from the others.
I really hope that Miitopia becomes so successful, that eventually, Nintendo does a remastering of Tomodachi Life.
I hope too
I actually interpret creating the "new" dace for the Dark Curse as not making a new one, but shaping what he looked like prior to casting his face away, just like filling any other Mii role. The Carefree Guide in Greenhorne didn't "gain" a new face, you're setting what he always looked like.
If miitopia was a horror movie it was terrifying just someone stealing faces
What if the reason you need to give the dark curse a face is because his has been missing for so long that it's lost?
With the game's ending, it ended up making me think that Nintendo was trying to give us some sort of moral with the whole idea of your own face. It made me think it said something like "Never hate yourself for what you look like."
As for me, I don't like my own face at all. But even if I dislike myself for not just my face, but also my voice or many other reasons, it's never enough for me to fall into an abyss of despair and death. I still would rather live life even if I can't change the way I look or sound.
yeah.. I feel you, i also hate how my face looks..
@@mushboi6965don’t be, you can find you’re own beauty
My headcanon is that whatever face you give the Reborn was his original face. I don’t think that’s too farfetched either, considering we do pretty much the same thing for the whole game, and pretend they’ve always been this way.
No matter how interesting a face you give it, it’s always possible to shift the blame for loneliness on physical appearance. It’s... a flaw that we humans have that makes the Reborn connect so much with us.
Of course, you could still give the Reborn a generic Mii face. 😂
What a coincidence I did that too
I heard someone's theory that the dark curse is the original Mii character, explaining why he was so upset over his "plain, old, no good face" because everybody else gets cool looking faces
@@Pixelusually I mean if you delete the mii playing reborn, the default male mii appears in cutscene viewings.
I casted my reborn as guest Mii C. What's better Mii to cast than literally the most "generic" looking one.
The real question in the lore is when you give two Mii's an outing ticket, how the heck do they go to a park when they're in Karkaton
🧐
I made the dark curse the default mii face, because it's the one EVERYONE ignores.
See what I did there? ;)
Pretty sure that was the dark curse original face
@@tentedkarma7465

i think that's what you meant
I made mii brawler a castle guard

Honestly that seems pretty accurate
My head canon (even though it more than likely isn’t true) is that you do give the dark curse back his original face. I would have preferred though if when all the faces returned down to Miitopia that one lingered and then you realised that was the original dark curse’s face.

if they wanted to fix the idea of making the new face to give to the dark curse, they could have made it so that you made it as a ??? face at the start of the game and you find out the face is for the dark curse at the end of the game if you pick the ending to do so.

also, i actually have an AU where the Ex-Dark Lord and the Great Sage were really close friends as kids, and then he got pissed at her when they were teens and he broke off their friendship so they didn't see each other until years later when he was the dark lord. i honestly get emotional over my own AU sometimes lmaoo, bc she recognized the dark lord as her friend but knew she had to fight him (which i intended to be a parallel to the end of the game when the protagonist has to fight their friend too)
anyway im done infodumping lmaooo
Reading his comment reminded me of my headcannon between my ex dark lord and my great sage that they are sisters, with the ex dark lord having an inferiority complex to the talents and skills of her older sister, which leads her to take the deal with the dark curse to live up to her older sister, with one of the reasons why the great sage is going to stop the dark lord is to save her sister from the dark curse.
@@bonbon5994
yo that sounds interesting af!!!!
6:57 how did he fade from existence, is it another way of saying "he committed suicide and stopped breathing"
Miitopia: The Dark Lord has a sad backstory, and is a redeemable person.
Me: Haha I made the Dark Lord the Annoying Orange
Each major role teaches you (the player) something, with the dark curse being given a new face teaching you that, if you are completely unhappy with yourself, then its okay to change to be someone you can be happy as. in a way, subtle trans affirmation.
alternative way of reading:
The dark lord, meant to be casted as someone you fear or hate, is meant to teach you that perhaps your fear or hatred is misplaced
The great sage is there pretty much specifically to teach you to seek the brighter side in people.
The dark curse is to teach you that its better to change to be happy, than to suffer to stay the same.
I love this. Miitopia truly is a wonderful game. :3
That sounds like a horror movie
I mean basically
this video was great
also ive had this thought for a while, what would happen if the curse possessed the protagonist? its not unheard of for rpgs to well, make their protagonists unavailable at a certain point but, i think its just an interesting what if thought, especially since you have to rescue your other party members faces
plus i love the fact the great sage is possessed, like from a narrative perspective its great, like, i was enjoying the game before, but the dark lord fight and that twist made me adore this game back on the 3ds
Ohhhh I wish that happened
@@xxavaxx3151 yeah. time to make an au
I'm glad I've now gotten the actual back story for the Dark Lord.
personally when it comes to assigning the curse a face in the 2nd ending
i like to believe that what they end up with after the hero gives them one is actually just their original face (maybe with some minimal influence from the dark curse's design) and you assigning one to them was no different from when it was other characters having faces assigned to them
personally i gave them a slightly modified version of the default mii with cyan hair and eyes that closer resemble the eye of the curse
i know the great sage phrases it like you're making a brand spanking new one but this is just my personal little headcanon
also its probably not properly cannon but the Great Sage technically breaks the fourth wall because they say to your character something along the lines of: 'though i suppose he will need a face. though i trust this will prove no problem to you?' to which your character responds 'none at all!' idk i just think about that a lot lmao.
though, i suppose the Great Sage could say that bc protag has seen so many faces; at least over 2000 if you fully complete every level (i think?). therefore protag does have a lot of experience with faces, just not with making them.
also, i have a kinda headcannon that the reason that there's a lot of monsters with only parts of faces and the existence of Otherworld is because originally the Dark Curse was going to try and make themselves the greatest face so that no one would ever ignore them again. i mean it might also be because thats all they could do at first when they were less powerful, or a combination of both.
i'm also thinking about the mental health implications of the Dark Curse's backstory. like, casting your face away... i may just be mentally ill, but that reminds me of something. also the fact that no one seems to pay attention to them; does this imply that they were neglected by their parents??
sorry for just kinda writing loads lol, im massively interested in Miitopia, specifically lore, and i don't get to talk about it much.

with miitopia, you can give almost any of your characters lore. my serious soldier, known as old knight, is thousands of years old. he did the same thing that link did in breath of the wild, only a few hundred years longer, and can't even remember his own name. the only remnants of his past are his ancient gear and helmet, which look extremely technological for being thousands of years old. this means that the ancients in my miitopia lore are technologically advanced.

when i saved the dark curse, i though about making the default male mii his body, since i though it fitted and name him adriano
though i ended up picking another mii, but thinking now, i want to use the default male mii in the switch version.
(Dark King, and The Replica Dark Lord ms respectively)
I really enjoyed the video and I hope to see more Miitopia content from you! You did an awesome job! Maybe you can do one on the lore/tips/advice for the towers! :)
1:57 Omg I think I actually hade that exact great sage in my adventure. as the one in the video what’s the odds.
Pretty sure that’s the default for the great sage :)
Lol thats the default for the great sage
I also always wished that the npcs would have the same gender as the mii you casted them as (a male fab fairy for example).
weirdly, the only npc whose pronouns change is the Great Sage who can use he/him or she/her. i wonder why this isn't the same for other miis
Here’s something else very interesting I found out you should consider an topic. The dark suns Japanese name is The Sun of Another World. Which implies that the dark lord might not have created it.
Or he stole another worlds sun.
This game means everything to me tbh. It really does deserve a vid about its lore.
same here, this game is so amazing
I really hope Miitopia either gets DLC or a full on sequel. It’s such a fun game with the potential to take the Miis in an amazing new direction.
I find it ironic that the _Darkest_ Lord is a beaming, bright Sun
He's apparently getting darker, but yet, with each new form, he gets brighter and brighter.

Honestly I think the true person that casted away his face to become the curse is most likely the default mii
I mean think about it when have you EVER acknowledged this mii you've probably never once thought of using him in your party
Never thought about using him to play boxing
Never thought to give him his own apartment or friends
You never thought of him at all
For 14 years hes been neglected by everyone so abvously he casted away his face cause that was the main reason people never wanted too use him

9:37 from the looks of the Mii’s body, I think the dark curse’s face would actually be *drum roll* Guest C!
This video was greatly done. Loved this.

I have no plans of using Woodles from Mickey Mouse Clubhouse anywhere due to his lack of Personality/Face but that means its a perfect role for him since he never gain a face during the show, making him a Foil to Toodles from the same show(The Hero) who spends the first 2 seasons without one.
I made Gaster as the Dark Lord
Also, I find it weird how enemies like slime jellies have only one face feature. Does that mean they're miis with only one eye or just a mouth.
I like to think the enemies with only one face feature are from Miis who have the misfortune of having only one part of their face stolen (or each part of their face was given to a different monster)
@@nekolacey That some how feel worse than just have your face taken.
@@donovanhadley2209 I mean some people do not have an nose at birth and some face features can be lost in accidents
@@CaliCosmicGal Wait really?
@@donovanhadley2209 I do not know if it can happen to the nose exactly but you can definitely be born with lack of some needed parts. Some stuff that can happen is crazy. Like having you’re heart partly outside of you’re bodie.
And losing an eye or any body part for the matter is possible in an accident it’s also possible in “accidents”
tbh ima share my only known lore
so i think it was this guy who originally worked as a HP banana maker, found a voice saying "i'll make you the strongest being bla bla" and then he lost control and only got to see what the dark lord was doing
Just pointing it out :)
i think this makes it better considering my dark lord was nostalgia critic and my sage was avgn
Kinda surprised that you didn’t mention the dark king as he seems to be the most complete replica of the dark lord made by the darker lord.
Maybe to complete for the darker lord to handle to. Surprised you didn’t mention any of the dark lord replications.
What about the Evil Sage? IIRC it wears a replica of the Dark Lord's necklace, too
@@F1areon well the Japanese name of the dark sun is The Sun of Another World. So maybe the dark sage and even the dark king and queen aren’t actually monsters made by the dark curse. Maybe they are from this other world the dark sun is from
I made my great sage Jesus, and well, the final boss was kinda traumatizing
Matt pat can’t compete with THIS
allow me to say something about the curse, we technically aren't giving them a whole new face, we are deciding what their face used to be
Thank you for this video, I absolutely loved it! I hope there'll be more Miitopia lore videos to come!!! I do enjoy the memes and shitpost but there's just something very intriguing about the more serious side of this game ;__; especially since not many people pay attention to it!
2:29 and the monster at the very beginning of the game (forgot what it was called)
Miitopia is a truly great game, can't wait to see what little bit of lore they add with the new Tower and interactions
I wonder what would have happened if the sage couldn’t have saved the protagonist, like *we* become evil?
