They seem nice as fashion dolls but not as much for play dolls. I think they would have been cool if they included some blank/plain stickers with markers that wash off with water to allow for the person playing with the dolls to create their own unique pieces as well, but the markers would bring the cost up too much probably.

honestly I used to have paper dolls when I was a kid (both cheap pure paper ones and one where the doll itself was flat plastic) and their play value can still be pretty good depending on the kid, even with clothes that are fully factory drawn. still I agree that including clothes that can be colored or fully blank stickers would've been neat. from the looks of it I think kids might be able to make completely new clothes out of actual paper, but the thickness of the plastic might make the clothes' flaps a bit unstable.

Personally I don't really get why I'd get these over a styling book. Because styling picture books with stickers or magnets are just 2d and I kinda don't like the whole 2.5 d thing these have

I feel like these dolls would work way better if they used non-permanent vinyl, so you could remove the clothing and put it back on the hanger. For me, these needs to be dolls that you can style over and over again, since they don't have a lot of playing ability otherwise. When I was younger, I used to have a magnetic Barbie (that was flat) with a variety of magnetic cloths. And I do understand that putting magnets in the hands of younger children is problematic, but it was still a lot of fun for 7-8 years old me to style my barbie a different way every day. These dolls are a bit of a let-down in comparison.

I used to get a sort of flat Barbie on chips as a kid! It was basically a plastic card with Barbie’s body and a couple of her outfits you could pull off the card and dress her up. You would get one in every chip package and they were obviously quite small,,, I really miss them

These dolls look really interesting (even if they remind me a little of that scene from who framed roger rabbit).
Regarding the posability, I once made paper dolls like these and used split pins at the joints that allowed them make some poses. I imagine they could have done something similar (at least with the elbows and wrists) to give them some more playability.
I also wonder why the heads couldn’t move the way a normal dolls can, because they have a 3d head already. Even if they couldn’t have the full neck peg, they could have just had ball like the lol dolls surely.

So it's a new expensive version of Paper dolls from the old days? Paper dolls are figures cut out of paper or thin card, with separate clothes, also made of paper, that are usually held onto the dolls by paper folding tabs. They may be a figure of a person, animal or inanimate object. Paper dolls have been inexpensive children's toys for almost two hundred years.

These are great because you can draw and design clothes for them and just tape em on. I used to love making my own paper dolls, making them clothes and playing with them. Dolls were almost never fully articulated until monster high. I use cat/pet claw scissors from the Dollar Tree for cutting the jibbers - they grab ahold of the tiny things.
I admit, the first time I saw these, I just thought they were weird and couldn't understand why anyone would like them, but now I think they're kind of great. Colorforms were my favorite "paper doll" as a kid, because the clothes did not fall off. Lining them up to the body is very good for developing dexterity. When it comes to normal 3d dolls, hair play is very important, and to this day (I'm 54), brushing doll hair is as soothing as petting an animal, so it's great they have real hair. Dressing dolls can be tricky for little hands - they don't always have the patience to wiggle stuff on - so this gives quicker satisfaction. I love the way they store the stickers - in Colorforms, they had to stick directly on their original layout, and since that was cut in, eventually the plastic peeled up off the plastic. My concern is the durability of the stickers - that they will not tear or warp and will stay sticky.
People complaining about the price: I mean, $30 is way too much for a paper doll, but this is a doll playset, with 5 curated outfits with an average of 7 items each, along with a handful of accessories, and "furniture" (clothes hanger, stand). Fashionistas start out at $10USD, come with shoes, dress, and maybe one accessory. I think these would be great for travel and would provide hours of creative play styling the dolls. How much is a movie date with a kid and it only lasts 2 hours tops? This seems like just as good an investment.

I do like that the design of the stickers are very detailed and unique. I do like the faces they are very cute.
It would be cool if they had stickers to give them custom make up too. If they were cheaper it would be a fun party activity.
Also i feel like it would be cool if they came with a background set for display with stickers to decorate there display.
    It feels very novelty.
Thank you so much for your review.

Im not sure if kids like dolls that are flat and ugly but as an adult I appreciate the original idea. If you could paste your own drawn designs on them maybe it would appeal to slightly older kids that enjoy drawing clothes but as a play thing not so sure 😂

its not a bad idea but i think the clothes being flat magnets that stick to the base instead of stickers would be better. the sticker idea just doesn't seem very long lasting. like mi guarantee kids are gonna get them torn or dirty or folded in on themselves etc etc etc... I'm not confident it would hold up for much long term play value

Kiki and Harper have the most style and interesting look about them, I think. But overall I'm unsure of how I feel about these dolls because you can't...do much other than style them. I hope at some point they consider making a special addition that's actual dolls or something. Because you know, be fun to pretend they're going to the mentioned events.

that’s exactly what I was thinking. I was wondering why not just go completely flat and still put some hair on the flattened doll. in my eyes in presents very negative body image sort of saying that the only thing that should stand out about is your face and if they’re going to be completely flat why not do multiple different body sizes i.e. plus size size 0 regular size ones without a leg or with prosthetics etc, it will be so easy to do in a flat medium

these are kinda cool! i like the idea as it reminds me of paper dolls but ALSO the magnetic fridge dress up dolls from the 90s
the fact they gave the a coloured back instead of just skin colour with underwear is weird to me
the sticker fashion is dumb- it should have been magnetic.. just kinda makes them seem scammy
if they use stickers they shouldve used more felted, holographic, textured and fur stickers
especially considering theyre flat and unarticulated which is a great way to cut costs as it is
they needed a few more weeks on the product development stage i think
the sewn in doll hair- dont you just grab one side and open it?
its sewn in a way that it just unravels from one side

Good question! its been a few weeks and they are still going strong over here. unlike the ones on my Avastars:( those turned oily and left gross residue behind on the dolls bodies :( I'm thinking of doing an update

Nice to see this review!! And it was interesting to see you use the 'B' choker as a bracelet too, something I hadn't thought of
While I love articulation for a neurodivergent person like me I actually found the lack of posability to be a plus? It gave me a play experience of different clothes but forced me in a way to focus on one or two things with play vs. trying to find the 'right' pose or balance them the 'right way'. Removing that choice from me was a little freeing. I have Dylan and Harper and the other two I am on the fence about but do love the two I already have quite a bit.

I grew up with paper dolls and online dress-up dolls so these are neat, but I personally dislike the idea of using stickers over something like magnets. Feel like over time with kids playing with them they’ll just end up not sticking and collect hair/dust.

I mean. I guess these are Cool, if you’re not blind. I don’t think this is as accessible as we would like it to be. They should make one with some tactile stickers so we can feel them. Is it weird that I just want to get this doll and cover her in self adhesive gem stickers? I feel like my mom wouldn’t enjoy sitting there for hours, while I made her describe every single sticker so that I could pick the perfect outfit.

That is all a very good point. So fun y I always consider the accessibility of a product and totally spaced on this one. I feel like a complete bone head. How the heck did I brain fart so big.

      @blindisthenewnormal7512 9 місяців тому +1

@@NexJen don’t say that. It’s not a big deal. I guess because I am blind, it’s the first thing I think about. is it weird that I still like stickers? I can’t use them to decorate a doll, but I have a braille tablet called a braille sense, and I have little gem stickers on the cover. you said you have a lot of blind people in your family. Because of this, can you read braille? my mum tried to learn, but she could never learn contracted braille. You know how there are signs for all the words? I learned the entire braille code by the time I was nine, and I am an avid reader. if it was up to me, I would write stories and get them published. I think you should make a video on the new fingerlings. I’d love to see your reaction change after the last time you reviewed them.

I wish instead of the sticker thing it was more of like magnetic thing because the design is cool I like the looks, but ultimately stickers are going to stop working and stop being sticky. I really liked the look and the designs though. The main reason dolls like barbie or ever after high or monster high or the color ones are so popular is because they arent only the doll its also the collect and reusuability and posability. Like I think its cool but really they should have done magnetic looks over stickers

    Jen,
Random comment: Wanted to say that I truly appreciated something you said in the video where you unboxed the gifts you got. I´m talking about the Marvel "fidget toys". That you said that those toys were great for someone that was a Marvel fan.
I´m a DC Comics fan. That doesn´t mean I don´t watch all superhero movies but the ones I buy, the comics I get and stuff are from DC. And while, of course, there are people that would like both Marvel and DC there are also the people that have a specific fandom. And it meant a lot to me that you had the tought of specify Marvel and not put all superheroes in the same boat. ;)

I don't like these dolls, I'd rather have a well designed traditional paper doll with tons of different fashions. I do get the idea behind them, and I'm sure many people will like having many clothes plus the option of hair play.
42:33 I would argue that lack of articulation stimulates imagination more, since you have to come up with new ways to perform or convey the action the toy is supposed to be doing. Also would make you focus more in verbalizing what's going and the toy/character inner feelings and thoughts, instead of just posing them. 😁
And this is coming from someone who would have loved to have fully articulated dolls as a child! But I also had a blast with normal paper dolls and plain mini figures.
So in the end, if the child likes a particular toy, they will find the way to play and enjoy it.
Love your reviews, by the way! You do a great job going over all the details and you are really honest. All the best! 😊
