thex2 was my first workstation... I have a triton extreme too...some of my music got burned with the x2(flooppy disk)and overwritten 20 songs on my triton.. I'm very depressed about that because losing a song is like losing a child, losing an instruement is the same way to me... God bless you fo posting... I love your collection

Over the years I've owned lots of keyboards and modules but I've always sold the old to make way for the new. It must be absolutely great to have the collection you have amassed over time. All I would need are some food scraps and a potty room and I could stay in your studio for weeks at a time. Love all that gear...... keep collecting........ I guess if you count modules, amps, keyboards, effects, and general music related items, you must have about a thousand pieces by now. You're sure doing your part to preserve electronic music history.

I am a Korg guy too. They are so much easier to program than Roland in my opinion However my newest is a Trinity and I’m so happy with it.

I've had my X2 for many years. Haven't touched it for a few. Just decided to put it back up and plug it in. It played great. For a couple days and then it died. So it turned on and showed stuff on its screen but no sound at all from the four outputs. No headphones because I appropriated the headphone jack 4 replacement of a malfunctioning Jack. And yes I tried a couple amplifiers. No luck. I even tried different cords. No luck. I guess I got to tear down and look for a blown fuse. Or hopefully not in your case burned resistors. And I certainly hope it isn't a blown chip. You can't get repair parts for this anymore unless you search for used boards.
Thanks for listening to my whining. I can't get it fixed I'll be sad because it was a great keyboard.

How'd you go? You might have a blown fuse?
My X3 would not turn on and a tech guy had to replace capacitors? that had leaked over the motherboard.
He said it was a problem with Korgs and Rolands. I think I lost stereo output. (It's fine on headphones).
The dead battery means I have not yet restored the factory sounds (it just has basic blah sounds) so I haven't used it much yet.
Disk drive doesn't work so I need to connect to a DAW and do a sysex dump to restore sounds.

    Wow, you have wiz skilz!
Just picked up an X2 cheap. I have an X3 from new but the disk drive don't work and capacitors leaked and damaged the motherboard a little.
Both batteries died and wiped out the sounds so they are both back to ugly base sound. I was hoping the X2 was all working so I could use it in place but same issues. I do like the extra keys as a piano player.

Got the X2 factory sounds loaded up via sysex dump from PC using free Midi-OX.
Unfortunately my X3 won't allow the dump because one X3 button won't allow me to step right on screen so I can open and allow edits. (Global page 3D set filter2 EX to enable)

And like yours, the X2 keys are hideous, like they have dwelled in a smoked filled bar. I believe they can be restored back to a brighter more whitish via a hair creme product (specific one containing a certain product) and sunlight. Might have to explore.

I have 2 pieces of KORG X3. On one, in perfect shape, I have recently replaced floppy with GOTEK USB emulator, on the other one has noise on all outputs. After detail examining, I figured it must be DAC chip on the main board (BURRBROWN).

    • @NathanEllery

Wow cool. They are so cheap. Was it easy to replace?
I found a specific USB kit for the X3 but they are super expensive, like several hundred dollars ($190?) and it wasn't really worth it but $30-40 definitely worth a go.
How does it deal with much more memory on a USB than on a 720kb floppy?
ok I can see with software and the numbers you can effectively create a USB with 1000 virtual floppy drives. That is way cool.
I did save my floppy drives to computer but can't find them so I guess I just need to find an old computer with a floppy drive to transfer the files first.
      Thanks for the great tip!

@@NathanEllery It was then 30$US, and very easy to replace. Only, you need an adaptor for 34-pin to 24-pin ribbon cable of X3, and connect jumper on position M0, on GOTEK emulator, because old KORG machines waited acknowledge pulse from motor to confirm it's spinning.

@@SanelKeys Adapter? ah ok. Expecting my Gotek to arrive any day now in Perth Australia but we are a locked down state with floods and protests going on so "any day now" it will arrive. Hahah. I might have to comment back when I am fitting it but thankyou very much for the tips, they should be very helpful.

Can you show me how to put the sounds from the card to the x2

    • @NathanEllery
      @NathanEllery 2 роки тому

What card? Are you referring to the PCM cards?
      Where are the sounds stored?
      Does your disk drive work?
Using the MIDI connected to a computer and a DAW, you can do a sysex dump back onto the keyboard. I haven't yet done it, waiting for the cable connection but there are youtube videos for the X series showing how to do it.
